Looks like the disc version as well. Not sure whether it's a Steamworks game but it's developed by Gearbox so I think it might well end up being integrated.

Also 4 player coop campaign :-)

Release date: 12th February 2013

Updated to Limited Edition. Thanks to geebeegooner for pointing that out!

LIMITED EDITION BONUS CONTENT

•Four movie characters
•Ripley's Flamethrower
•Additional marine customisation

The cost of buying a decent gaming PC is offset by the price of software. Heat.

My thoughts exactly. I blame most of my game purchases on Steam sales!

Ps cheers for the heat!

Excellent price, forgot this was coming out in a month

Not actually a bad price and the game looks very promising. Only just really started to take note of this game.

I didn't even realise it was being developed until I saw it on Green Man Gaming earlier today. Looks like fun though and judging by how much fun Borderlands is coop, I'm sure this will be just the same... possible a bit more intense and a few brown trouser moments!

Really enjoyed playing this at Rezzed in Brighton - Thanks for the deal

Here have some heat but won't be buying until I see some reviews. AVP was a massive let down for me

The best alien game was released in 1999 & made by Rebellion
Edited by: "lister73" 5th Jan 2013

Was looking forward to this until I saw some of the hands-on play tests

Nice find&reminder! Been waiting ages for this, although Sega have been a huge let down with all the Aliens games they have brought out.
Hope this one turns out as good as it could be.

@lister73: seems Rebellion didn't do themselves justice then with the last one. It's on my to-do list though...

@Ashf and wightmad: is it like Marmite then? hur hur... *sigh* I thought it looked all right from the previews. What did/didn't you like about it?

Don't get me wrong - I genuinely hope that the play tests I've read are wrong, and don't reflect the finished product.

The ones I've seen have commented on the distinct lack of terror/suspence (surely a key part of the franchise), and the deviations from the source material that have been required in order to make a playable game (e.g. change in alien creature speed, introduction of new alien types in multiplayer, etc.) Apparently, what remains is effectively a generic shooter that doesn't make good use of what is unique in the films

Ah, right. They're headed in more of a general shooter direction with this. I can see them having to make a lot of changes to the universe if they want to make a deep game otherwise it could end up with a small variety of enemy units, limited weapons etc. Trying to build a game and stay true to it's roots is difficult to pull off. Probably why a lot of movie based games are terrible.

I'd be tempted by this but I just have this nasty feeling it's going to end up being a bit cack.

For me, the ideal multiplayer mode for this game would be a Left 4 Dead clone type deal. If they deliver something as fun as that then I'll be happy

50/50 on buying this, need to see more reviews

Okay so it was at a small game conference in Brighton called Rezzed (It was ran by Eurogamer) and I think it was one of the first introductions to the game.

We only got to play multi-player (against SEGA staff members) and only on a couple of maps. However it was really enjoyable and immersive.

We were slowly exploring these quite small, but very atmospheric environments - checking corners, huddled up as a group and keeping an eye on our scanners. Then suddenly you see a flash of an alien tail on a cargo box and the scanner starts beeping. Then all hell breaks loose and the aliens are swarming down on you and it gets a bit crazy!

I remember one point we were defending around an APC sort of thing (not an objective, just a part of the map) and this bigass tanky alien comes charging at us, and we all side sweep it and shoot the hell out of its back. There was some great team play too and we were all talking to each other (even strangers). Maybe because it was with friends it was better, but just felt like great fun.

As for the bad: It didn't feel like it had a lot of depth to it and definitely felt like it was for relatively short quick gaming however I do feel that I would get value for money out of it. I probably wouldn't still be playing it a couple years down the line though.

If you're a big fan of the films and the aliens universe then from what I experienced you may be disappointed - Just because I didn't experience a kind of story... it was more just a shooter with some fast paced and slow paced parts.

Its not quite a generic shooter, but its definitely close to that territory... however I still got a lot of enjoyment from it.

Cheers for the description Ashf. Does sound like a blast and I'd be playing this coop most likely so looking forward to it. As Nealio mentioned if it's a left 4 dead clone, which it seems it is, then it'll be an great game. I think longevity on something like this would be down to the number of maps available or if they release a map maker/mod tool. Would be a wise move to link it with the steam workshop too.

^^ That vid looks like the most boring online/co-op I've seen for a long time.
I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition when Amazon did the £37.99 mis-price but seriously tempted to cancel it now ((and I'm a massive Alien(s) fan)

I don't think it compares too well with L4D because it doesn't have the progression through the maps or story L4D has... I guess more counter strike with aliens? There is/was actually an aliens mod for counter strike which is/was kind of fun. Mind you, we only played deathmatch mode - I cant say more than I've seen (going to have a read now)

@Lol_is_stupid - Yeah I agree, doesn't look too fun from the video... It looks very sit there, point and shoot... We definitely did enjoy it for the game when we were there though, there was some build up of suspense when the aliens and marines were actually being tactical. £38 seems a bit steep though.

My general view is that Natural Selection 2 is a better game, but Aliens: Colonial Marines is much more polished and has higher production values (probably associated with budget)

Going off that youtube video, the realism is kak.
The alien blood has no effect, and it looks like your bullets don't harm your own team.
Too indiscriminate for me,I'll wait for a big price drop for what looks like a shoot 'em up.

Cheers Ashf, nice to hear from someone with inside knowledge
The £38 was for the CE with all the usual tat they give away (toy, DLC etc), but will either cancel it or play then CEX it.

Have any of the alien games actually featured the corrosive alien blood/spit?

In AvP2 (PC Game) if the Aliens got too close and splattered you when shooting them you took health damage but the tech wasn't there for melting environments then.

Not sure if this has it though.

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!

Thanks OP just ordered with 2% Quidco. Co-op FTW.

TBH the stupid amount of wait for this game has only led to a huge let down, graphics look a bit pants, and it lookis very similar to AVP!! Which was also a little bit pants! I'll give this a miss and wait for Dead Space 3, which will be a proper Space/Alien game! And Bioshock Infinite!

Game has now been upgraded to limited edtion which makes this price a steal.

That's even better! Cheers for the spot geebeegooner! :-)

PC games still can be bargains at release. Sub-£20 for a Limited Edition is even better.

BUT even as a hardened shooter fan, this is not a pre-order for me. Campaign content is key and, as is the case with most games these days, multiplayer appears to be the main pull e.g. 4 player coop campaign - which I'm sure will be great fun to those who like this kinda thing. So I'm not expecting anything particularly new here.

I think Crysis3 may go the same way, but the difference is there's no pre-launch price-cuts. I guess that's EA's doing.

EDIT: I think Bioshock Infinite is going to be the best of the 3 but that's not out until the end March.

Anyone know if this game is Steamworks or not? I'm messaged Simply Games on Twitter but no reply as yet. Nothing on the website either, however this one liner on Savy Gamer says it is, but hardly conclusive evidence!

Unfortunately it has gone up by a couple of quid... still cheaper than other places unless someone can confirm there's a better deal out there. Editing the price anyway until a cheaper deal comes along!

Got My Ps3 Copy From Here Just Now!

What do you think of the game danielholt?

I'm still waiting for my copy and I only remembered after posting my reply that my copy is the PC version, meaning Steamworks, which means I won't be able to play it till release day due to the Steam activation, sigh!

I'm thinking you will not be thankful when activation arrives. The game is poor. Oh well, Crysis 3 next...

Musicrab

Oh dear, definitely not what I wanted to hear...

Reading some reviews online from people who got the game early and there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions.

(on pc) AvP has had 3 pretty good outings; the long dev cyle with Gearbox has never boded well for this 4th outing, and the cheap pre-order price was also suspicious.
If you are in need of a fix of AvP and you don't mind a bit of fiddling about, try Avp 2000 on Steam (ok its old and is graphically poor)
store.steampowered.com/app…30/
and with updated textures et al
moddb.com/mod…dux

Mine just arrived.
Totally forgot about it so was a nice surprise
Will have to wait until tomorrow to play though. The downside of Steam.
