Hi Guys and Girls

Well, Alienware are renowned for being great gaming machines, but a GTX960M or 965M isn't quite in the gaming class. It's a reasonable spec for the money, but you might be disappointed. The i7-6500U is only 2 cores and IMHO doesn't deserve the top-end i7 name. What's the point of a 2-core I7 chip? Yes, it can do 4 hyperthreads, but that's just a con - you'll be lucky to get more than 20% extra performance from hyperthreading! The 256GB SSD looks decent, but that 500GB hybrid option isn't anywhere near as good.

Beware - if you go for the better graphics GTX965 it looks like you end up with a 1366 x 768 TN-Panel, which is crap in comparison to the full HD IPS. That leaves you with the GTX960, which isn't as good.

FREE Alienware TactX Headset. Enter code 'FREETACTX' in basket.

I'm on the look out for a gaming laptop but 13" is just too small for me. Looks a good price though

Hmm, I'm so out of the loop with PC gaming, personally I have a dislike for gaming laptops but find myself in a position where one would be ideal, so have to eat the words I once spoke In the past

I dont suppose anyone would mind telling me if this one is a good deal

With discounts it'd be £1,395 + 7% quidco. with a free headset as well

Great price, although the £320 upgrade for the GTX 965m is very expensive!

The code mentioned above ALIEN10 works on all alienware laptops.

I've been after the Alienware 15 with the gtx 1070. But the prices have gone up by around £200ish in the last couple of weeks. So the 10% really isn't a great deal

Dell said you can't use both codes for the discount and free headset at the same time, fyi

Looks like the new alienware 13 come with a gtx 1060 desktop card might be worth waiting for that.

It does... but I'm reluctant to pay 4 digits unless I know I'm getting a great deal. My PC gaming days were 6/7 years ago so graphics cards etc are back to just funny names to me now. Can't really formulate a solid opinion on my own these days. Coupled with the fact that Alienware is notoriously overpriced. (Albeit notoriously reliable too)

I believe you get what you pay for, I own Alienware, MSI and Lenovo gaming laptops, I am actually looking again now due to MSI promising gfx card upgrades and then failing to deliver. I will be buying Alienware again due to the build quality and support is far superior in my experience.

As is typical with Dell deals the link isn't working. Is this an Alienware 13 or 13 R2?

The new Alienware 13 R3 is being released on the 10th hence the code being only valid til the 9th. The new AW 13 R3 is supposed to be vastly superior with 1060 card and quad core i7 6700 and apparently amazin OLED screen (but expensive). The main drawback is he battery life is reduced to around 4hrs when not gaming.

I think based on the sneak previews provided by Dell for black friday/cyber Monday, the AW 15 is likely to get reduced and is probably the best of the three in terms of features and portability, however there are many users reporting heating issues with the CPU's, particularly the 6820HK. Apparently Alienware have fixed the issues with new models, however it's no certainty and you may find yourself having to repaste.

If you're willing to spend to get a good gaming laptop the Aorus X5/X7 models are not a bad deal providing you can live with loud fan noise, compared to Alienware. You get 2yr warranty with them as opposed to Alienware's 1.

If you want portability, great screen then go with AW 13 R3 with OLED and also get the amplifier and stick a 1080 and be done with it.

Paid a lot less than that for my 960gtx from PC specialist years ago.. bet you my screen is 10 times better than dell crap too.

Take a look at this Asus.

Poor i7 for gaming, the gpu is ok for most games on decent settings.

I would only go for this is you need a 13.3" otherwise there are much better 15.6" options.

The 13 R3 won't be getting a Kaby Lake processor?

Robot714

Take a look at this Asus.

£1,300? Camel shows this randomly dropping down to £905 on occasions, I'll see if it drops down again, could be worthwhile

I'd be looking at laptops with 1060 graphics card for gaming and no less especially when over £1000.

Scan & Overclockers have some decent options. New Alienware R3 15/17 is pretty good too.

Maybe next year when quad core i7s are released but difference will be negligible as its only minor improvements to power and better intel gpu which doesn't matter here really.

I don't need another gaming laptop quite yet, but if I were in the market for one, I'd be hanging on for one fitted with the brand new Nvidia 1050Ti GPU. This is the 'budget' version of Pascal and is likely to be far cheaper than the 1060/1070/1080 yet it delivers performance better than an old Nvidia 970m. You can't buy it yet but it's going to be everywhere in a month or two. Here's some blurb to read...

Tried the Alien10 code at checkout when ordering the £1749 13 R3, it didn't work. Got in a live chat with a rep and they agreed to a 10% discount making it £1575. Tempted...

alienware deal

Seems a good deal to me. Still gonna get decent performance from it and a good price as well. Not gonna bother with the new one

New 13" launched as expected:

Now I'm wondering if new XPS15 will launch on 16th when the £100 code expires on 15th.
