I'm an Android fan without a doubt, not a fan of Apple at all.... However...... that said when it comes to an ipad I'm sorry but Apple all the way. They work, simple as that! Ipad 2017 is my next choice unless a new one is due this year? But to get a decent Android costs way more, so I must say in this area will always stick Apple I hate to say.

That's rubbish and shows ignorance. The new iPad doesn't even have a laminated screen anymore as apple took that away. So the screen is much lower quality than before and for that you are expected to pay £140 more on John Lewis than the Asus 3s10 with the exact same screen but laminated. So you get better quality screen for less with the android tablet.

The Asus is thinner too and that's another bonus of having a laminated screen.

Ok the iPad has a faster processor but the Asus is fast enough. I have thrown every game at it and it has run it perfectly. So yes, this is a terrible deal only for apple fans.

Ok so I don't want an iPad but can't understand why the cold votes as it's an extra years warranty for free.

Just wondering if it covers everything except accidental damage can you go back to them just before your 3 yrs is up and say the battery life isn't very good ?

Edit... I've just had a look in the t&c's out of interest and apparently not.

Batteries are almost always classed as consumable items as they age and reduce capacity every charge cycle.

It’s the android cheapos at work
The warranty is great from John Lewis but its just hard to justify the cost of an iPad these days

Android tablets don't really exist anymore... your looking at something like the pixel book for an up to date android tablet now

I’m sorry but you don’t show much more knowledge, how can you not in this day and age take into account security and OS updates??? When you see the OS fragmentation in the Android world, it’s just ridiculous. As much as I hate Apple because they suck at open sourcing their technology, at least they have managed to have people keep their device up to date even for non techies!

I don't have the latest OS update on my Asus. I am one version behind the latest. So what? It hasn't made the slightest bit of difference to me. I don't see anything game changing in the latest version of android. I didn't mention it because it makes no difference to me at all.

Battery degradation is wear-and-tear, nobody would cover that.

My daughters ipad air packed in, bought it for Christmas 2013 for her, mid last year or so I claimed this and apple didn't argue and refurbished exact model sent out. They sent us return packaging and even engraved the replacement for free again. So any reputable retailer will be fine.

Great service if they replaced a 14 year old prototype.

What on earth are you on about. Fragmentation. Eh. You have lots of devices with differing specs. Latest android versions won't run on lower spec models so they don't get the updates. If you buy SIM free you have no issues with updates and get more regularly than iPhone.
John Lewis will price match most retailers as well even on Apple devices. They price matched Argos for me a few days ago for an IPhone 8.

That's changed. On the 1st 3 gens of iPhone apple were an absolute bunch of t.....rs when they sent firmware updates and trashed my phone and wanted me to PAY to fix it. No stores then and impossible to get anyone.even worse was the drm removal fiasco when they expected me to PAY 29p to remove drm from each song. Would've cost me 700 plus. I and several others reported apple to trading standards and they did it free like all others manufacturers. Joke. Haven't been back to apple for over a decade so come on here telling us that apple support is great.its not.
Pity they scrapped the Ipad Air 2, would have been all over it. Need to upgrade my ailing Air

Me too. I'm seriously thinking about a 10.5" pro to do photo editing on. But I would have had an air2
Accidental damage can be added from £40
These iPads are amazing build and spec quality and if looked after will last 5 years no problem. All my Apple products have never failed me in 10 years . But great back up the 3 years .
Next year it will be slowed down by a software update for all you suckers!
Always make sure I buy from Apple store now as never have any issues claiming up till the 6 year period included as part of U.K. consumer law - crazy to pay for a warranty

Think the 6 year period was an EU directive - as is the case with our distance selling protections.

Never mind - I'm sure the Tories will continue to defend the consumer against Big Business after we leave. 😵

Actually doesn’t have anything to do with the EU - they only offer 2 years - it’s UK consumer law that is 6 years

Why ?
I’m seeing stats that say this and friends that say this, but no one can say exactly why .... I’m thinking of getting one so genuine q
Does this mean new IPads are incoming ?
I hope the warranty on this is better than John Lewis’s Added care option. It’s as useful as a scrotum on a Eunuch.

OK. In any case it appears to be very difficult to get this protection in practice as the onus is on the consumer to prove the fault was present during the warranty period and only manifested itself later. You're largely dependent on the retailer's bona fides,, although Apple are apparently quite good about this. Moreover I don't think it's a blanket 6 year period - it depends on the reasonable life expectancy of the item.

Yup it is a struggle in some places but as you say Apple is really good about it. Had a 4 year old iPad and One just over 2 years with minor screen issues and they have swapped them no issue in mentioning I’d bought them from Apple and the uk consumer law. Even told me I’d have the remainder of the 6 years left if there were any issues on the replacement
Ok so I've got an iPad mini 1st gen, obviously knocking on a bit now it's ios9, also I've got a recent.ish android tablet.

But for general everyday use ie surfing, banking, shopping, email etc can anyone advise why an iPad is a better option.

I actually like iPad and iPhone.

But I like my android tablet, as for one example let's say it's quite easy to download a film to watch !

Can you easily do that on an iPad ? If so how, and also if so I'm sold and I'll get a newer one.

Personally, I had an LG which was quality whilst it lasted... 2 tablets later went back to Apple due to failings. Next the Samsung Galaxy tab, good for a few months then warranty needed to sort out charging issues! Not to mention not everything displays correctly on Android, it stretches to fit (in some cases). So again, I switched back to Apple because they just WORK!
Just my opinion, would never touch an iPhone again as love my Galaxy S7 Edge, but tablets then Apple wins for me...... and yet again, I'm not an Apple fan! Would love to move away, but for the money they still win.
