All laptops change tommorow in PC World

I went into PC World an they said they are not selling there computers today as they are changing the whole range when vista comes out tommorow.

So new laptops might come in, which might be cheaper and better.

sounds more like we'll be getting lots of clearence soon.

Dont count on them being cheaper.

...exactly what I was thinking

If PCs were going to be cheaper at any time, it would've been during the run-up to the release of Vista, not after it.

The old laptops might be! :-D

wierd... why would they not be selling the computers? surely they want to get rid of them? not prevent people from buying them? lol

we'll still be shipping our computers with xp if thats what the customer wants.

But no, no reason that Vista's pc's will be cheaper, just more expensive.

lol

What you have to remember is that pcworld can't change what is in the boxes like other computer companies.

It makes sense that there maybe an arrangement to send left over stock to the manufacturer to have vista re-installed and then sell on at higher price

yep thats exactly what im thinking

Most of the computers especially laptops in PC world won't touch vista. 256mb or ram? 512mb of ram... then you are doomed.

Most over £500 have 1gb or over now

sending computers back to have new vista's etc would cost alot more than discounting them by the same amount to sell with XP and free upgrade to vista vouchers thats just not going to happen.

They won't send £400 PCs or laptops back - these were probably manufactured overseas and it just isn't worth the effort to reinstall £50 worth of software just to charge a customer £100 more. It'll cost them £20 in delivery charges per box anyway.
And if they have machines at price X now which people haven't bought, why would they buy them later in the week for X+£50 just because they now have Vista? Joe Public wouldn't know what to make of Vista if it jumped up and bit him.

They would also have to change all the packaging from XP to Vista and lots of machines also have XP stickers which are not easy to take off...

XP machines I suspect/hope will be in clearence soon.

Looks like some cyber vandals have hacked in the pcworld website and have put a unhappy smiley onto the frontpage.
