All-new Amazon Echo (2nd generation) £59.99 @ Amazon for Student Prime Account Holders

Found 19th Mar
Just noticed Amazon has dropped Echo price to £74.99 but you can still get 20% off with Student Prime Account making it £59.99 each. Hope it helps someone.

  • Amazon Echo connects to Alexa-a cloud-based voice service-to play music, make calls, set alarms and timers, ask questions, check your calendar, weather, traffic and sports scores, manage to-do and shopping lists, control compatible smart home devices, and more.
  • Just ask for a song, artist or genre from Amazon Music, Spotify, TuneIn and more. With multi-room music, you can play music on Echo devices in different rooms, available for Amazon Music, TuneIn and Spotify; Bluetooth not supported. Echo can also play audiobooks, radio stations, news briefings and more.
  • Call or message anyone hands-free who also has an Echo device or the Alexa App. Also, quickly connect to other Echo devices in your home using just your voice.
  • New speaker with Dolby processing that fills the room with immersive, 360° omnidirectional audio, and delivers crisp vocals, deep bass, and clear highs at louder volumes.
  • With seven microphones, beam-forming technology and noise cancellation, Echo hears you from any direction-even while music is playing.
  • Just ask Alexa to control your compatible smart lights, switches, TVs, thermostats and more
  • Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new features and skills. Just ask Alexa to request an Uber, order a pizza, get train times, and more.

Silly question, but I take it I can't pretend to be a student!?

Not unless you can send them a pretend copy of your pretend uni card.

Thinking of the Google home myself for the phone calls and using my mobile I will be able to ditch my anytime call package on landline saving £8 a month, is the sound any good on the mini as I would like to stream Spotify through it or should I go for the bigger one?.

Smart speakers are most uninnovative, unwanted non-use full product ever made
I just want some decent plug in the wall speakers which have aux and usb connection so I can use it with chromecast, but don't need to constantly charging my battery powered speaker.
Absolute bargain and the sound quality is excellent.

No it's not (sound quality I mean). Average at best but depends on your budget...

I totally disagree, and while I can't vouch for other smart speakers I find the Goggle Home Mini to be a incredibly useful bit of kit.

my nus card was what i set up my amazon prime student account with no problem, only thing you need within amazon to be a REAL student, proof of proper uni (ie, not NUS) etc is to take up their student offer on amazon music unlimited

For the price it’s exceptional. Obviously with more money to spend you can get much better quality speakers.

Why would you need a pretend copy? How would that help? Surely just a copy

I'll pretend I didn't read that...
Probably a silly question but how do students know what has the 20% discount on it? It works with the Echo and Echo Dot but I have tried it with the Spot and it doesn't work.

Edit* Just searched 'amazon student discount' in Amazon search bar and bring up a banner with link.

THANKS VERY MUCH. il try it !
Wondering whether this is worthwhile? The Dot 2G is crap - barely ever picks up a voice even when you're standing next to it whispering or shouting but also manages to pick up randomly from the TV! Seems to work for a while after a reboot but doesn't last long - any thoughts?

Yeah I think I'll return under the 2 year thing. OTOH this Echo has arrived and it's stunningly good in comparison.
Which colour do you all recommend? How easy is it to sync with my Hive thermostat, Hive motion sensor, Hive active socket and Hive active bulbs?
Can get one from Curry’s for £69,really tempted with this instead of a DAB radio
Grabbed a couple of these they are brill for kitchen etc - got 2 X Play Ones for bedroom which are amazing
I Pointed this out in the Echo dot thread as I went to buy one. Much better than the dot for sound quality. Great price also.
Not working on my account :-(
How to get these to play 5live as your alarm every morning?
Worked on my account - heat added!
