Just launched today, open for pre-order. Decent price of £89. Buy 2 get £25 off, buy 3 get £50 off.

2 drivers inside, 2.5" subwoofer and 0.6" tweeter. It should sound similar if not better to the older Echo, but better design and cheaper price.

Is this suppose to be better than the first one?

Connectivity wise, this has a line out as well as Bluetooth. The first one didn't have either.
If there’s not at least a tenner off these on Black Friday I’ll be amazed.

They added Bluetooth speaker support to the original earlier this year.

So they've improved it AND knocked £60 off the price of the previous entry?

Aren't I glad I paid £150 for the 1st gen

They've release a whole host of new bits and bobs, this has a bigger brother too, a clock alarm thing, new TV dongle etc.

Yeah, i personally liked the Echo Spot the most, but quite expensive.
Same price as the old Echo that hot a heat of 1492 just a couple of weeks ago.

OOPS to the hotties there. People certainly love their Echos.

I really doubt they will offer a better deal so soon. I feel this will be sold out and hard to get before the holidays. Their multi-buy savings are good as of launch.

This doesn't seem any better than gen 1 the volume control is cheaper and sound is only as good?

Just read that the calling and dropin features should be available soon, about time too.

Love the look of the Echo Spot.

For anyone worried about the price pre order vs Black Friday, I'd take the punt and if the price drops a few weeks later (which I doubt, on singular items, it's usually multi buys), surely Amazon would refund the difference if you ask nicely, no?

They don't do that anymore
So, send it back and reorder at the new lower price? I've threatened this in the past and they tentatively agree to credit the difference. I get it that prices change but there's nothing worse than paying top buck for something only to see the price fall a week or two later. They'll be well aware today of the sell price at launch and what they intend to sell at for Black Friday. That said, I'd be surprised if they drop the price on a singular unit, more likely to be multi buy saving/deals.

Do that too often and you might find that Amazon cancel your account
So is this just the standard price?

Thanks for that, missed it on my mobile
Cheers.
Ah man I wish this had apple airplay built in too so I could use it for my music on the iPad.

Yup. Can't beat a RRP 'deal'
If only it natively supported Google searches and chromecast audio.....
I’m guessing these are no good if you have apple products?

Welcome to the world of corporate closed source.
Have 2x echo dot.

Use them barely ever, the whole thing in my case turned out to be a complete fad that died a slow death.

Useless third party "cat meow" apps are plentiful, actual useful substance is thin on the ground.

Integration with Hive was also half cocked, couldn't independently control upstairs and downstairs thermostats, lights on/off worked but still found myself just using an app.

That makes no sense, no reason they couldn't offer Google services.

Do what too often, ask for a credit? I've only done it a hadful of times in the 15-16 years I've been ordering. I'm not sure if I'd be bothered if I'm honest... it they've become that precious then so be it, but I'm sure it will be fine.
Spot looks interesting. Doesn’t seem to be coming to the UK, tho?

Coming to UK at some point next year apparently.
Not a patch on the potential of the Google home.
Does the Echo plus mean you can basically plug and play?
I have Google Home and Amazon Echo and I have to say Google home is a lot better. The assistance is more intelligent and it works really well with Smartthings.

I wish they would play well with smart locks...can't unlock locks due to security issues.

Am waiting on the new Google Home family.
So we now have Siri, Google Now, Cortana, and Alexa. What to go with as they don't interface with each other. It would be great if they did but I suspect copyright issues will prevent this. I use Google Now (phone & tablet) and Cortana (desktop & laptop). Microsoft have brought out a Cortana app for Android which I am trying out. Do I now buy into Amazon's Alexa for a home device, get a Google Home device, or see if Microsoft bring out something? It reminds me of the Videotape format war back in the late 1970' / 1980's which VHS won! I think I will just have to sit back and wait.

That makes no sense. Why would Amazon push services that are in direct competition with their own? Corporate suicide

In the same way that I can get Netflix on my Fire, right alongside Prime Video.

Amazon don't have a search engine, they don't play in that space and therefore I don't think your point makes any sense.

Mine has bluetooth - I use it all the time to connect to my pc for audio. I can't say I've ever tried it with a phone, though.
Anyone else having this problem?
