Why do you think its so cheap the 2018 Ipad has 2gb ram
Thought this would have at minimum 2gb ram by now.

They are ok if you don't load the Play Store or Google apps on it. Amazon have a serviceable version of the YouTube app (YouTube.com) and the Silk browser and email app are perfectly fine. If you want non Google apps that are not in Amazon's store use apkmirror.com and you can sideload the APK files easily.

The iOS doesn't need high amounts of ram.

Just telling people you are not going enjoy watching YouTube at this resolution.

I'd probably agree, but it depends what you're used to. It wasnt so long ago that DVD video was considered clear and sharp and this tablet is higher resolution than DVD.

I watched a whole series on one 3 years ago, so not sure what model it was. Resolution was plenty fine.
Do yourself a favour and stump up £45 for the HD8
Can you get YouTube on these? Do I read right that a legal case has been settled between Google and Amazon or is that something else?

I enjoy YouTube at this resolution. Depends how close you are to the screen as to if resolution is noticeable.

Great for kids.
Is this not always this price ? Or is it black friday im thinking of . :/

1gb ram this day and age?

Yes, but you have to factor in its price point and that it is one of the cheapest entry level targets sold by a reliable western infrastructure.

You are getting what you pay for, it's c.£300+ for a decent phone, this is £30 and because of that it has many flaws.

Saying that the HD8 is a good machine for its rock bottom price.

I assume you mean you need an ereader? If that's what you mean then no this is nowhere near as good for a dedicated reading device. A Kindle ereader is very good for the eyes, has a decent lit screen and has a battery that should only need charges 10-20 times a year (on average).

Usually more expensive.
Just to weigh in - I bought a £29.99 Kindle back in January/February 2017.

I have pretty much given it to my 2 year old with a soft case on it from eBay (basically making a budget 'Kids' version). She hasn't necessarily been careful with it, as per learning motor skills over the time I've had it, but it is almost exclusively used for Netflix and/or some basic kids educational games.

With Peppa Pig and the like, you simply don't notice anything that you wouldn't get on a far more expensive tablet. It's been robust, sound is fine, performance is fine, battery is still good etc. If she eventually breaks it, it's definitely had its money's worth. I'd go as far as saying that it has been crucial in helping her develop (2 years old, knows the alphabet, colours and numbers - she has even found her own new programs to watch on the kids profile and learns about animals, shapes, phraseology etc.). I don't know how much you could value that head-start in education at.

I also bought one for the great gran a year prior, and she uses it practically daily for playing daft things like Solitaire.

So, is it going to replace a laptop for you? No. Is it going to make Samsung or Apple nervous? No. Is it a very cheap tool from a respected seller that you don't really need to worry about being lost/broken in the same way you would for anything else in the same category.

I'd be keen to see how much better the new ones are, but anyone turning a nose up at these needs to give their head a wobble. Imagine watching Next Generation in the early 90's and thinking one day you could own technology like that for the price of a cheap meal out for 2.

I have a 1st Gen Paperwhite and I was asked similar when I bought it (as I got it from Cex after I bought the Kindle) and realistically, I don't believe any tablet is comparable to such an e-reader. The screens that make good tablets don't make good e-readers (imo) and vice versa (especially eye strain and all that).

I'd recommend a Paperwhite all day though. Mine was £50 in grade A condition, but I think they sell the better versions at times brand new for not a lot more than that.
Bought 2 for my kids last year for £20 each. Serviceable for animal jam etc.

What a sad attempt at trolling. I hope you get the help you need.
I have an older version of this tablet. Perfectly good for browsing, email and catch-up TV/movies
