Fire TV Blaster is not compatible with cable or satellite boxes. Learn more about supported devices.
Fire TV Blaster is a companion device that works with your Echo and Fire TV devices to voice control your entertainment experience. You will need the following (sold separately) since Fire TV Blaster will not work without them:
• A compatible Fire TV streaming device—Fire TV gives you instant access to launch and control your favorite TV shows, movies and more.
• Any Echo smart speaker or smart display—Since Fire TV Blaster doesn't have a microphone or speaker, it relies on Echo devices to add hands-free voice control to your IR entertainment devices.
• Compatible entertainment devices—IR-controlled TVs, audio/video receivers, and soundbars. Learn more about supported devices.
• Apps—Access to the free Fire TV app on Android 5.0 (or above), iOS 10 (or above) mobile device or Fire tablet (5th generation or above) is required for setup.

Important: Fire TV Blaster is not compatible with Fire TV - Basic Edition, Fire TV Stick (1st generation), Fire TV (1st generation), or Fire TV (2nd generation). Fire TV Blaster is also not compatible with Fire TV Edition televisions or soundbars. Learn more about supported devices.

Could you please show me another device thats cheaper that turns your tv on/off and changes the volume up/down?This will go nicely with my 7.99 echo dot. Now i can get rid of my harmony setup which cost 4x the price and achieve the same thing.

How about remote that came with the TV for free?

I don’t get it when you already have an echo

No useful device if you already have lots of Amazon devices like me. I already own several Amazon show 10 and fire stick 4k .
What the heck is this? First time i hear this one
Isnt this basically a broadlink rm mini 3?
Basically its a IF controller?

Echo cannot control TV on its own , This device controls TV using Infrared . Echo just works as microphone in this case .

That only works within line of sight and no voice control. This can turn kids TV on and off from far away .

This also requires line of sight of what it needs to control, you cant turn off the kids tv from far away unless you have one beside the kids tv. If you wishing to do that from far away, buy a smart plug or a TV that already has it's own remote app via wifi.
Also pretty sure it would take a child a matter of minutes to stop you from being able to do this, you know like moving it or sticking something over the blaster, or the child like using the TV remote control or dread to think one of those pyhisical buttons.

Where should I place my Fire TV Blaster?
Place your Fire TV Blaster 30 to 60 cm away from devices you would like to control, positioned so that it has line of sight to those devices. The LED should also be facing where you usually sit. Voice control will work from across the room.

Yes but you can control it from a different room. That's what he means.

So can a smart plug at 25% of the cost if that was your only reason for buying this. Both options would take a child minutes to prevent you from doing either.
Voted cold from me,overpriced lazy product.

Smart Plug just powers on and off . Does not turn TV on and off or provide other functions of the remote.

You used the application of using it to turn off the kids tv. A smart plug will do the same. No idea why you would want to use the other functions while not in the room. You discounted the idea of using a tv remote because it requires a line of sight, so does this. If you are going to stand over the need of this product it might help to point out the unique functions it can do that something else cannot. Anyhow other products on the market do the same for less than half the price and most people as you can see from the other comments find no points for its features. By the time you ask it to turn on the tv, change the volume or whatever else, you could have it all done long along using the remote. As to doing it while not in the room why, just why?

There are so many other things like TV goes to sleep by itself after certain time even when power is on , or the app like Netflix asks, ' Are you still watching ? ', etc and turns off Netflix. The smart switches cannot replace a remote control however hard you try.

Again you said the reason over using a remote control was the ability to use this while not in the room. So with what you are now saying, why not use the remote control?

I may go against the grain and carry on using my ✋ to turn things on and off
