So, despite the marketing blurb stating Dolby Vision, the Fire TV Cube …So, despite the marketing blurb stating Dolby Vision, the Fire TV Cube does not currently support it?Can anyone who owns one of these confirm whether it is powerful enough to playback 2160p REMUXs smoothly from an attached external USB3.0 HDD? 4K60fps (Billy Lynn’s Half-Time Walk and Gemini Man) and Dolby Vision dual-layer mkvs? Thanks.

Sorry, I have no idea what your saying 😳
Im pretty sure this does have dolby vision, the cube 1 didn't but was one of the features added for the cube 2 along with hdr10, can't say I'm blown away with mine, yes plays everything well, same slick interface, the voice selection is too slow compared to a remote - yes saying pause or open itv player is great but then saying left, left, left, select to start a program is just plain annoying. Find using the remote to access is just easier. Asking it to change hdmi inputs sometimes works but mostly doesn't with my Panasonic tv and can find no way to get it to select the input back to tv from an hdmi input.

the most annoying thing is if you ask it to play music and another echo is playing in the house the prompt for playing on this device, only appears as text on the screen and need the remote to press ok, doesn't give you the option over voice but doesn't tell you its not working either so just silence. Especially annoying when you just want music and not the tv display on. Its nice that play movie soundtracks over your stereo for everything you watch but lip synch is normally out, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, which really annoys the hell out of me.

Gave up on wifi as would keep walking in to find the flashing orange light so set up a wired connection and even then sometimes loses the internet connection but restart the device and strangely everything is fine with no other tweaks. I have about 8 other echo devices/firetv sticks and none of them ever drop out. Also the volume on the cube doesn't adjust the volume of the bluetooth connection like the other echos do, they must have swapped a variable volume for a fixed output so just changes the volume on the cube. This is especially annoying if your speaker is not compatible with ir as no way to alter the volume using your voice.

The speaker in the cube is also considerably weaker than the speaker in the echo dot which just sounds better for all forms of communication.

Most issues will probably be fixed with firmware updates over time but I wouldn't buy another

The only difference is built in echo speaker and a ethernet port.

So if you have an echo in the room and your WiFi is good enough for 4k then stick with the fire stick. That also has Dolby Vision capability which cube currently doesn't support though I'm sure a firmware upgrade will add it at some point.

A great bit of kit.
Is this massively different to the 4K stick

Awesome spot. I’ve been waiting for this to drop in price as I missed it on Black Friday

I picked up one in the black Friday sales and love it.
I got my TV, ps4, sky box, soundbar all hooked up to it using voice activation.
Isn't it meant to be faster and have more memory than the 4kstick? I think so, anyway, love it. It works great

Media player.... wonder if it plays everything? Like my old wdtv live does... 4k roku doesn't
People only really want to know if it can sideload other apps and able to play iptv programs, kodi, plexus, etc
"High-speed HDMI cable ... required for 4K viewing"
Well, that's a bit cheeky. Plenty people have HDMI cables lying about, but not all of them are suitable for 4K streaming.

HDMI 1.4 (High Speed) was launched 04/03/10 so it is quite likely if the cable was purchased after that date that it is High Speed or faster.

Doubt it, the 4k fire stick has a 35mb limit on video files anything above that and it will stutter, and most 4k remuxs as you can know can go a lot higher than that.

What cable do you recommend for watching 4k. Are the amazon basic series good enough?
One difference is Dolby Atmos in Netflix is not available on the firestick 4k but is available on the cube , found this out to my annoyance after buying the firestick .....

Im running a 5 year old 15m long HDMI cable from my HDMI 2.0 2.2 HDCP amp to my 4k projector and no probs with 60hz 4k transmission . I only paid about 20 quid for the cable so IMHO Id try any old HDMI cable before falling for any sales blurb

This will work (and is only 26p more than an AmazonBasics Version):

Hard to take many/any positives from that review. Appreciate you sharing the info though for those of us who are considering purchasing an Amazon Fire Cube v2

Its not cheeky that it requires a high speed cable, the device cant magic a higher data transfer rate from cables that cant hit the required rates. But what is cheeky is they didnt just chuck one in for "free", would cost them pennies.
Yes, but since when did manufacturers include all required cables in the box? Retailers love to be able to offer and sell additional accessories to customers knowing they are not included inside the product box.
I have a first gen 4k fire TV, thinking about upgrading so I can control the TV volume and have pause / play voice control ........ I also have an echo show in the same room
.. I guess voice control will get confused?
What's the difference between the cube and the 4k stick? I'm thinking of upgrading to the cube while on offer

I mainly use my 4k stick for iptv at weekend and kodi during the week. No issue at all watching on my 4k stick and I use a HD stick upstairs

Any point upgrading to the cube?

Depends if you have/would use a dot.
It's basically a stick and a dot in one, plus it looks frickin awesome!

Amazon Fire TV Cube v2 includes a built-in speaker, faster processor (Hexa-core vs Quad-core), more RAM (16GB vs 8GB), supports Dolby Vision and has an ethernet adaptor.
Does this pass through HD audio?

Have used AmazonBasics HDMI 2.0 cables for 4Kp60 Gaming (games including Doom, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and more)
So it should be fine. It was like £7 for 2.
What's the advantages of this over my new smart TV ?
As I get the likes of Prime , Netflix and YouTube in 4K . I get NowTV .
So what else does this offer ?

Can you link your Camera system to this and watch on the TV ?

They want to know if it'll run pirate copies.
A REMUX is a rip from a Blu-Ray disc without any compression. 2160p is 4k so they'll be massive files sizes (50gb +). Most players don't have enough oompf to play them.

I don't have these cameras so I'm not exactly sure, but it looks like there is a blink app available on Android and iOS so you could probably do this already on your smart TV without the need for a cube.
Same price in Argos this is a very good device
