I would call it a downgrade, slower processor than 2nd gen, no native ethernet port, no SD card slot.

2nd gen refurbished commanding a higher price than a new one of these for a reason!

Don’t all uhd TVs come with amazon built in?. I see these and think y would I need it. I’m curious to what this does as to what my telly does different.
Has anyone tried this on a Non 4K TV? Does it work or do you definitely need a 4K to use it?

I was gonna argue the point about older TV's and non-smart sets etc but yeah, pretty much 100% of 4k sets will be smart TV's and likely to have Amazon built in. This is one of those, we'll throw it in because it sounds good, sales tactics.
I've got a 4k TV and one of these. This is mint. I no longer use the smart TV functionality as this can be loaded with whatever I want. Even let's me stream my desktop PC to my TV in 4k where I have 2 Bluetooth xbox controllers. Best thing I bought for my TV.
I have one of these. They freeze every 5 minute. But it's arite if you have patience
Also depends on your tv, for example i have a 1year old philips set and the smart functionality is pants, only offers bbc iplayer not all catch up services and amazon has stopped working so the firetv sticks are great.

Must be your internet or faulty, never had a lock up / freeze except for when amazon service went down which lasted a few hours

Possibly. However the hardware / processing power on this is likely to be far more snappier.

It's also less restrictive in terms of adding addition apps such as Kodi and so on.

Also compared with my TV this has a much nicer interface.

Same here. My TV has Amazon Netflix all the catch up services 'built in' but i still use my fire TV (box) as it's much snappier and nicer to use

Heard this wasn’t as good as the original one? Is this true?
To what extent do these things track you? Most modern TVs track how much time you spend watch stuff and how you’re using the TV (in fact, on my Samsung tv, I cannot even use Netflix without agreeing to send data to them about what I’m watching...).

To be fair mate, there are worse things they could be tracking you with...

Good luck finding any cloud based system which doesn't track at least what you are interested in watching
I have this and you don't need a 4K tv and it doesn't freeze

Or just use vpn
Hot. I got one for £50 odd during the big ebay promo a couple months back....

Well worth getting over the stick (I have both now). The TV is much faster and has 4k which is a bonus.
Well worth this price!

Thanks. Actually I was thinking to upgrade as previous will be easily sold for same price.

Not really an upgrade. More of a miniaturisation and removal of some functionality.

Using a free app called moonlight. It uses Nvidia shield streaming and works fantastically.

If you need any more info or help just PM me I'd be happy to help.

Ok thanks, I have it working with Plex from my PC upstairs to my TV downstairs for films and TV shows.
Had the 1st gen Fire TV Stick and thought it was great, despite it being sluggish. Looked out for this being available reduced, .but it never happened. I also discovered the previous generation of this was far better, but the price used was as much as new, sometimes higher, so got a used Minix U1 (Android mini computer) instead and haven't looked back.

Good to see the price drop though.

looks like you have to register on the vouchercodes website and then it gets redeemed via email into your vouchercodes account

personally I just went for 1% cashback via quidco and ebay (something and less hassle for me)
I currently have 1st gen fire stick which has done me well but now running abit slow and looking to change it, would this box be a good option to go with for price and I'm guessing it would run faster?
This is the only fire TV device that supports HDR
MY 2nd gen UHD box only plays "4k"
With no HDR support
So this was a necessary upgrade for me with the optional Ethernet adapter
Only problem now is finding an HDMI extension that supports HDR so it's no hanging from the back of my receiver putting a strain on the HDMI socket
After getting firestick for someone as a present I'm really not impressed with Alexa at all. My Google home is far better so I'd stick with that and an android box.

Yeah, I also use this. Plex now supporting 4k makes it even better.

2nd gen doesn't support HDR and only does 4k 30fps. So the so called faster processor obviously has inferior hardware codecs.

3rd gen does 4k 60 fps with HDR so seems a bit stupid to go backwards in technology seen as HDR is a huge leap in image quality. Most people with WiFi have ac compatible routers so no issues there. Who wants cables when it works wire free? I bet you've not even tested this version.

Because a Gigabit ethernet connection will ALWAYS be better than Wi-Fi
