Breaking my lurking silence to post a first deal!

Visited the Argos bargains store in Stanley this afternoon on the off chance of a cheap PS3 to play the Uncharted series on, after playing Golden Abyss on the Vita.

Surprised to find a big bargain star across a wall of PS3s saying "All PS3 consoles now £119.99"

They had 120Gb's 160Gb's and yes......loads of 320Gb's......less than £120 for a 320Gb Ps3 - I'll have one of those, thanks!

Can't imagine the 120's will go at any great speed

Will post receipt proof as soon as I can work out inline URLs!

I don't.understand. Whats an argos bargains store? Is it like a normal argos?

its all their ex-catalogue stock plus some new ones they cannot even clear or sell in a normal argos store
there are only 3 of these clearance stores in UK

Thanks vinh1000

So I'm guessing this deal won't be available in a normal store

I'm up to the Corby one tomorrow to check if they have any...

Whereabouts are these stores ?

THESE ARE ALL REFURBISHED GOODS.

Potentially, yes.

What I will say is the one I have here is absolutely immaculate, so if it's a refurb, I'd say it's a full manufacturer refurb and all absolutely as brand spanking new.

I'm an xbox owner and just wanted to play uncharted, so I figured if the games were £45 each at launch, if I can get the games and the machine for less than £150...it's like I got the machine for free as I would have bought them new if they weren't PS exclusive.

. yes you are right. and also included is a full year warranty. so you got your ps3 for a very good price.

May come with free sheet stains!

If a customer returned a truly faulty good, then Argos would probably return them to the supplier/manufacturer. However as we all do with Argos, we return things that just aren't for us, or we have changed our minds about. These are the goods that can't be sold as new. Can't be returned to the manufacturer/supplier, hence is sold at a clearance price.

Occasionally some faulty stuff gets into the mix, e.g. items that are hard to test for reliability being turned on once for example. To take the PS3 for instance. There may be a PS3 with a faulty fan, that isn't noticed till you've been gaming for an hour and your console overheats and starts crashing. To Argos, this might be sold as a fully working clearance product...

It's a lottery basically. But with the odds often in your favour.

thirty3baboons, did you notice what firmware it had on?

To be fair, the sale of goods act is likely the cover you for the first year on these kind of goods from a known store anyways. It would be a reasonable expectation for it to last a year, so it might be a bit more hassle but a warranty isn't always the big deal people think it is. I'd also say it isn't likely to go wrong in the first year, but 18 months - 3 years is probably likely, especially if it is indeed a refurb.

For those who care

120GB/250Gb will probably ship with 3.15 - 3.30 Firmware
160GB/320Gb will probably have 3.30 - 3.55 (i brought my 320GB new just after 3.55 was pushed out & had 3.40 on it)

Though remember if its one of these with a free game/game based box artwork then it will probably be 3.60 or higher

Ive been up to the stanley store (only a few miles from us) and they do sometimes have some good deals but sometimes the stuff does not seem much cheaper than the high street argos store

Great deal - although HUKD-ers should be aware that the £119.99 price is actually only available to those who are able to win the competition of entry. To enter, simply drive (or worse, bus) into Stanley and try not to get stabbed or set alight - winners will be selected at random. I jest, Stanley isn't too bad, now Consett on the other hand...

joerob1972, Yes 4.00 out of the box.

There was a bit of me thinking "come on 3.55..", but that was always going to be a bl00dy long shot.

yeah - seems to be best bargains when they're bringing out a new catalogue - I often suspect they're just too lazy to relabel all the stock!

Bought a £500 Acer 3D Ready projector from there about a year ago...for £140, so now I'm looking forward to 3D gaming on a 200 inch screen. been watching 3D blurays and dreaming of turning the garage into a cinema so far...if only, like the Americans, we all had basements to put this sort of thing in.

I'd like to care... What's the significance of the firmware?

Now thats a bargain

So dirty pirates can play the back catalogue before 2010 and a handful of newer titles if they're willing to fork out £50. All offline. Very little point.

Pah, phooey.

Any 320gb left in stanley?

any in corby?

If anyone is heading down to Stanley today, could you give us a stock update please? Might have a a drive over from Newcastle if there are any left.

is there a direct link for £119.99p ???

Can't be sold as new? Are you joking. Half the stuff I've bought out of Argos over the last few years are clearly returns with battered boxes. If stock checker shows it is the last one, chances are it will be a return so count the parts before you leave. Here is a 'new' angle grinder I bought off Argos a while back:
