Ahhh good old Wimpy! Brings back memories.

The last one in Greater Manchester (Salford Precinct) closed a good few years back now.

Almost every northern City and town had at least one back in the 80's and early 90's, along with most service stations.

Nearest one now is in Huddersfield

Always preferred them to McDonald's personally!
Didn't even know wimpy was still in business……
Hands up who loves a Bender!

Shocked, there is allegedly one near me!
Where In The UK is there a Wimpy???
Only 18 miles away from me must make a note in my diary
It's weird, there are so few wimpy's around yet whenever I see one, it's full up.
They sell the quarter pounder burger sauce by the bottle there now and lime milkshakes!

The one in margate was ok the old turkish/greek looking bloke used to run it for years and years and employ kids for about £1 per hour terrible service but good burgers.

I've not send a highstreet Wimpy for about 30 years.

My last purchase from Wimpy was over 20 years ago, at a service station, and that was for nostalgia.

Unfortunately I took a bite of the burger, quickly grabbed some fries to take away the bad taste of the burger, frantically sucked up some milkshake hoping to overpower the taste of the fries, and was met by a fowl tasting milkshake. Took my tray back to the counter within seconds of finding my seat. The till was open and the refund was being counted before I even got there was if that was the usual procedure : purchase, sit, return, refund.

Unless its a beer breakfast.
Why did they fall from grace?

Prevalent? There's only 67 left in the UK, with all but 4 of them in England.

They used to be prevalent, about 20 years ago. Always great places to eat and always busy in Tyne and Wear, not sure why the vast majority of them closed. McDs was always cheaper, but Wimpy was worth the extra to eat in.
One on Loughton high street for those in west Essex / east London
Every Saturday morning around 39yrs ago, 1st stop newsagent to buy a copy of Whizzer and Chips then to Wimpy to read it with a Knickerbocker glory.

They were too posh for most people growing up in the 80's and 90's. Who wanted a burger they could eat with a knife and fork then? These days, times have changed. They're seen as cool retro, and people like to sit down and take their time over a meal..

67 isn't exactly scarce though is it?!
I had no idea that Wimpy had made a comeback.

As chain restaurants go, 67 across the UK is pretty scarce, with only 6 UK branches north of Telford. My nearest is 123 miles away.
Been one in Farnborough Town centre for years. Well worth trying out if your near by.
Wimpy died because of McD. I remember back in the day McDs tasted better than Wimpys. It was generally better value and service in McDs. Food was more consistent too.

Miss the Beefeater.

Went to Clapham Junction before that closed. Closest one now is in Streatham high street.

Ain’t no Wimpy in Cannock.
Milford Wimpy ‘chalet’ (near Stafford) maybe.
