The first one is a great movie, I remember staying up late to watch this in the early nineties. It was a double bill with Q - The Winged Serpent. Those were the days....

i love tacky animal based horror movies!

same here dude, i was about 11 at the time and the prospect of cheap tacky gore (alligator) and topless ( :oops:i was 11 remember! :oops:) female sunbathers being picked off (in Q) was something i couldnt miss.

Unfortunately I think the quality of this release leaves a lot to be desired, I bought it as an upgrade to the original ABUS version but while anamorphic it's actually a cheap standards conversion job and the contrast levels are wrong throughout the movie leaving no little to no picture in dark scenes or areas of the image. I'll will have to pick up the Blue Underground version and see if that's any better.

And I remember taking great delight telling school friends the next week about how the guy was being skinned.

Superb!

Worth it for the first one alone. An absolute class movie.

And, despite what people may think, it's actually a very clever mickey take of cheesy monster movies (see also Pirahna from the same writer)

I have these movies, which came in a bigger animal horror boxed set, including Spiders I & II, Snakes I & II and a few other notable cinema releases.

Watchable as they are, you can actually imagine how it will go in your own head and save yourself some money;

e.g. Alligator in swamp...unsuspecting hick in swamp...hick gets eaten
1 or 2 other unsuspecting fools get devoured in the most gruesome of manners
Military team gets called in, including a savvy trapper and a hot scientist woman
everyone else gets chomped except the main two characters who make out after a while
Alligator gets blown up/poisoned by the scientists special poison
Happy Ever After....
...except it's not, since there are babies!

That's pretty much the plot for ALL these movies,

Agreed. That's the exact plot of Lake Placid, Godzilla, nearly every monster movie.
