Altered Carbon: Netflix Altered Carbon book 1 (Takeshi Kovacs)

MAJOR NEW NETFLIX SERIES FEB 2018

This must-read story is a confident, action-and-violence packed thriller, and future classic noir SF novel from a multi-award-winning author.

Four hundred years from now mankind is strung out across a region of interstellar space inherited from an ancient civilization discovered on Mars. The colonies are linked together by the occasional sublight colony ship voyages and hyperspatial data-casting. Human consciousness is digitally freighted between the stars and downloaded into bodies as a matter of course.

But some things never change. So when ex-envoy, now-convict Takeshi Kovacs has his consciousness and skills downloaded into the body of a nicotine-addicted ex-thug and presented with a catch-22 offer, he really shouldn’t be surprised. Contracted by a billionaire to discover who murdered his last body, Kovacs is drawn into a terrifying conspiracy that stretches across known space and to the very top of society.

I'll buy that for a dollar! Erh.... sorry 99p
Major changes made in the TV series, do not expect the book to be the same as the series. . .
Books are way, way better than the Netflix original series...

The show sucks.
I'll buy that for a dollar too!
Please can anyone tell me if content is too dark and mature for my 14yo son? He loves sci-if, I’m not familiar with the series either so haven’t a clue about the storyline except the Amazon blurb. Thanks x

Yes. There is a pretty explicit chapter with Merge9.

My daughter read it when she was 14, about 10 years ago. She thoroughly enjoyed it.

I haven't seen the adaptation but I found the book fairly generic. I read it maybe a year ago but the only thing I remember from it is the armed AI hotel.

It's was more violent action adventure than sci-fi noir - don't expect The City & The City.

I haven't read the books, however I did like the series a lot.
One of the best SF Noir books out there IMO. Pretty dark and desolate with lots of graphic violence & sex.
Great stuff and *so* much better that the TV series.

Cracking read, well worth a Quid and once you have read this have a look at his other books
in this series.

If he is an average teenager then I am sure he has seen films that are more explicit than
this book and he will probably that engrossed in the story that a bit of slightly older content will
be read at a slightly faster rate as its so boring in comparison to the rest of the story. lol

They just seem to be popping between the station and earth all the time. People really just do nothing.
One of my fav books mainly for the morally ambiguous main character. I also enjoyed the sequals although not as good.

Morgan wrote another similar book more recently called thin air. It's different universe but the story and main character has allot in common altered carbon.
Fantastic book. I enjoyed the Netflix series but the book is better. I think it is better to watch the series first as the book will then make more sense, although the book goes into greater depth. The subsequent books are also worth a read too.

The show was very good, as are the book. Just because changes were made doesn't automatically mean it sucks.

I must disagree. For me it's probably in my top 5 series ever. Amazing show. I might give this book a go.
Not read the book but wanted to add that I also really enjoyed the series. Heat for the deal.
