Wondered when they would get round to pulling that down. It was good when I was 10 though!

I remember riding it when it was back in Whitley Bay - must have been 20 years ago & it felt a bit past it then!

Blimey! What a blast from the past! I remember spending hours queuing, riding, queuing, riding and was amazed by the ride! My how things have changed! The rides these days are amazing but I will remember the Corkscrew fondly!

I remember riding it when it was back in Whitley Bay to, must be my age but it did not seam to rough back then, its very dated now, time to move on, air set the standard for smooth quality rides

This was actually the most terrifying ride for me, as I almost fell out the bloody seat each time it went upside down.

I went on it year after it was there and stood for ages waiting to get on but last year it felt like a rough ride showing it's age. But look at the wild mouse at Blackpool if you haven't got a bad back when you get off it your lucky. But still we go on them and will be next month lol.

God, it's my 28th birthday this month and I think to honour it I should get myself down there! Last chance to make my ears bleed being rattled in my all time fave, gutted. Think I'll ring the council tomorrow and ask them to reinstate a fairground in Morecambe starting with this!

Different ride. Same name. The one from Whitley Bay was moved to Flamingo Land at Malton. However Im being picky as both rides are identical.

Still a great ride, went on it this year for the first time in about 10 years.

When I first went in the early 80's there was a ride called the 'bob sleigh' which now has 3 rides in it place but that was a good ride I remember following my Uncle down who flew of at a bend he had to prove it wrong lol.

Its one hell of a ride even after all these years

I went to alton towers last month and the wait for the corkscrew was as long as it was for rita. Getting quite tatty and the cover where you get on the ride stank of mould. Still better than i thought it would be.:)

Corkscrew. Total icon.
I was gutted when they stopped the black hole and will miss the jolty corkscrew ride.

that was my favourite ride at Alton Towers the first time we went - can't imagine why they shut it :whistling:http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/history/oldrides/coasters/alpine1.jpg

Aint that vandalism? Anyway, it'll be a laugh, better than paying £32+ to get it and then £8 for fast track. Good deal, heat added :-) xx

Yeah its probably about time for this ride to be replaced...its extremely rough and rattly.

I was on the one in Flamingo Land on Wednesday (and at Alton Towers back in June) - classic ride, will be missed (although it probably won't be by those who got whiplash on it!)

Deserves to be preserved!

Let's start a petition

Very Last Chance to ride Corkscrew ...before it falls down!

Thanks for the picture of the Bob ride. Think about it now you'd have to strap in helmets on and thats the fun and risk gone lol.

I knew this would happen as soon as they changed owner and to give a month's notice so most people won't be able to get up there is a disrespectful kick in the face.

They now have only Hexx that's unique. I'll be going to Thorpe Park in future, which doesn't have Alton's building restrictions, 50 mile walks to get anywhere and has much better rides now.

(And yes I'm aware Thorpe Park shares an owner)

I haven't been to Alton Towers and doubt I'll make it this year. I have a Merlin Pass so will go next year but miss the corkscrew

We were there last weekend and went on. I still love it. It shows how much rollercoasters have moved on though in the last 20 years.

It is definitely feeling it's age now though. Looking pretty rusty, very rattly and if you look it when it's running there is quite a lot of play in the rails these days. Still it will be a shame if it goes.

This was aweful!

Im only 17 so i wouldnt have seen it when it was super technology but when i went on it about 2 years ago it did not feel safe and i also got whiplash each time it came out of the corscrew loops.

Not surprised they are getting rid of it, someone probably claimed for compo.

i think some of the new ones are **** compared to this.. just my ipinion.

'Some poor sod' a.k.a 'the person standing up whilst on the ride'

If you act like a toolbag on a ride then accept the consequences.

Fond memories of the corkscrew......and that swings ride next to it. I remember being stood under it when someone spewed & spattered everyone in a 10 metre radius. :-D
