Stay continuously hair-free with no re-growth with Lumea. If you are looking for a safe, fast and painless solution to unwanted hair with results that last for long, the Philips Lumea is the good choice. Using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, Lumea offers one solution to replace waxing, shaving, creams, gels and epilators. Lumea has two treatment modes, slide and flash and is suitable for fast treatment of larger areas such as legs; you simply glide the device over the skin you want to treat, smoothly and quickly. To treat curvy areas or targeted zones, such as bikini line, you have the option of Step and Flash mode too.

As well as being effective for legs, arms, back and tummy, Lumea comes with an aptly designed precision attachment for use on the face and a separate attachment for specialised treatment of the bikini area. Lumea has the maximum flashes yet, with est. 140,000 flashes per unit, which means the device is built to last.

With the backing of 12 years’ experience* in IPL technology, Philips Lumea offers smooth hair free skin with results that last for long.
* Innovation Site Eindhoven, collaboration Peter Bjerring, 2002

Fast Results
Philips clinical studies** have shown significant hair reduction in as little as two fortnightly treatments, with optimal hair-free results achieved after four to five fortnightly treatments. To maintain these results, simply repeat treatment every four to six weeks. Time between treatments may vary based on your individual hair regrowth.

** Product Research Centre Philips, Klagenfurt, Austria, December 2013

Please note that this machine is unfortunately not suitable for very dark skin or light hair eg. grey, blonde, red etc as it uses melanin (or pigmentation of your hair) to absorb light, thus making the hair removal effective. See chart on Post #1.

From the John Lewis site:

Introducing the Philips SC2005/00 Lumea IPL hair removal system, cleverly designed to prevent the reappearance of hair on the face as well as the body. By regularly applying gentle pulses of light, your skin will remain silky-smooth every day.

Smooth skin everyday
For the smoothest skin every single day, the Philips Lumea IPL hair removal system applies gentle pulses of light to the hair root, so hair naturally sheds away, while regrowth is inhibited. Repeating this treatment regularly will keep your skin super smooth all the time.

Bikini area attachment
This handy attachment is for the specialised treatment of bikini area hair, as hair in this area tends to be typically stronger and thicker than leg hair.

Clinically proven
The Philips Lumea IPL hair removal system has undergone studies to show significant hair reduction in as few as four bi-weekly treatments, resulting in smooth, hair-free skin. To maintain these results, Philips suggests simply repeating the treatment when needed, with time between treatments varying based on your individual hair regrowth.

Safe to use right at home
Philips have worked closely with leading dermatologists to develop the Lumea IPL hair removal system. Derived from the technology used in professional salons, the Philips Lumea uses a special light-based technology called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for safe and effective use in the comfort of your own home. Philips have also carried out extensive consumer research with more than 2000 women over 10 years.

Skin safety
Philips Lumea works effectively on (naturally) dark blonde, brown and black hairs, however it is NOT effective on red, light-blonde or white/grey hair. Philips Lumea is also NOT suitable for very dark skin. You can use your Lumea with confidence to remove hair on face (upper lip, chin and sideburns) and body parts including legs, underarm, bikini area, stomach and arms.

Convenience
Not only does the Philips Lumea have 5 adjustable light energy settings to ensure gentle and effective treatment, its unique cordless design is perfect for maximum reach and ease of use. As a hair removal system, your Philips Lumea will arrive ready to work straight out of the box, and it doesn't require any replacement lamps or gels.
It also comes complete with a bigger body attachment for fast treatment on larger areas like legs, while the main application mode enables a sliding motion for more convenient and continuous application.

Safe facial treatment
The Philips Lumea precision attachment is equipped with an extra integrated light filter and enables a safe and convenient application on the upper lip, chin and sideburns. It can also be used on other sensitive areas on the body, such as the underarms, the bikini area and hard-to-reach places.

How to Use
Application areas and Treatment Time :
Use with confidence to remove hair on all body parts including legs, underarm, bikini area, stomach and arms.

Face: 1 min
Underarms: 1 min per side
Entire bikini area: 4 min
One lower leg: 8 min
One full leg: 15 min

Five steps to everlasting smoothness:
1. Pre-shave the treatment area to ensure the light energy is channeled in the most efficient way to the follicle. This is only required for the first few treatments.
2. Consult the skin and hair type matrix and select the light intensity suitable for your skin tone and body hair colour.
3. Apply gentle pulses of light to the hair. The light produces heat in the hair, which is transferred to the hair follicle. This stimulates the hair follicle to go into a resting phase.
4. As a consequence, the hair sheds naturally and hair regrowth is inhibited.
5. To prevent hairs from growing back, the treatment must be repeated every two weeks (or every month for legs) which will progressively reduce hair regrowth to a minimum.

I'm not up to speed with the various Lumea models out there but I can see there are Prestige and Precision Plus models.

Thinking Amazon are wrongly advertising this as "Prestige", according to this comment on Amazon Q&As:

Do you know what's the difference between the PRECISION models like this one and the PRESTIGE model like the SC2007/00 one?
A: 2 things:
The sc2008 come with additional bikini attachment.
The sc2007 has 250.000 flashes while sc2008 has only 150.000 flashes.
I think philips will release sc2009 later which is the same as sc2008 but with 250.000 flashes.

As it's model SC2008/11 and the pictures show the Precision Plus model, I'm guessing that's the one you will get. Apparently, as one reply states, this model is "very new" *, but again, that's me going by the replies on the Q&A (sometimes Amazon users leave the wrong answers!).

* "Date First Available on Amazon 6 April 2015", so not that new

Been a tad cheaper previously on Amazon.

Excellent product - would definitely recommend, really has changed my life!

Any good for chuffers?

Can't use this as I am light blonde otherwise I would definitely be buying this so heat added anyway.

Good price, but it's better at Phillips. Amy posted a deal here that ended up in the minus: hotukdeals.com/dea…052 £234 + 7% quidco.

Crazy people.

After 3 uses (2 weeks once) I could see significant effects. So, that is about 1 month or 1.5 month.

Heat added!.
Can I use this couple of times and then return to Amazon, let's say... because I'm not happy with the product?

That's a great price. I couldn't check it last night as I was on my Linx 10 (beddy time) and I prefer fiddling around with codes etc on my desktop. I do wonder about HUKD sometimes!

Even though it says £400 on the Philips site initially - the codes still work I gave AmyX Heat anyway today

That's exactly what comes to mind when I see these IPL gadgets on Amazon Warehouse. I would imagine Amazon are no fools, but depends whether you believe in karma or not! (If you mean, you want to use this for a few weeks to inhibit hair growth, then send it back).

With these IPL machines, I think you have to use them long-term to see longer lasting results?

From here (though this is about an earlier Precision model, a few years back) mumsnet.com/Tal…ine?trending=1
"I have the new Philips Lumea precision one. Its not el-cheapo, but it definitely works, I am delighted with the results.
You shave your legs, use it over your legs (flash the light about in a systematic way, covering the whole area - it doesn't hurt) and you do this every 2 weeks for about 6-8 weeks, so about 4 treatments. I've done my 4th treatment, in fact I did it before a holiday about 3 weeks ago and my legs are completely hair free still. The idea is you keep doing it every 2 weeks for about 3 months (so I should do another treatment or two really) and then you only do it once every 3 months or so. The hairs don't grow back."

About the Precision Plus beautyheaven.com.au/bod…tem "I used this on my legs, underarm and bikini area 4 times (2 week intervals) and I've noticed a dramatic reduction in hair growth. It has also eliminated the incidence of ingrown hair and shaving stubble - which is so liberating! Overall I've been delighted with the results as I really don't need to worry about defuzzing on a daily basis.

After a year of use, the hair on my bikini line and armpits is negligible. I only do 'top-ups' once every 4 weeks to maintain the hairless finish. What can I say - it's great to not have to shave or wax again."
