Why not walk a few steps to your computer, or use a mobile device like a tablet all over the house. They're not cheap either.

Can you tell your laptop to play the radio or a selected track? Ask it to set a timer or remind you to do something? Maybe your computer will respond to voice commands while you're up a ladder painting the ceiling with white sticky hands?...

Was £79.99 @ Amazon on Prime Day or if you were really fast in the early hours of the morning you could get 2 from Tesco Direct for £138 as they had an automatic discount of £40 for buying 2 and then additional discount using type in code

What next, different deals for different colour socks ?

The black is out of stock and expired. This is available.

I don't see the problem.

I have two dots already, this will be 3rd CIA agent located in my house - am I safe yet?

Have they introduced multi room audio yet.

My missus was exactly of that opinion when I told her I'd bought one on Prime Day. Now she'd probably get rid of me first! It's the complete convenience of the thing, really. We really only got it for the music but then realised it can do so much more - we now give our (EDF) energy readings to it, we have Evohome connected to it now so can change the temp in each of our rooms by asking Alexa! She's even looking at Philips Hue lighting now! Plus no-one can deny it's great when people come visiting. Oh, and it can do great fart sounds as well . Plus, who wants to carry a tablet on them all round the house? I guess it's the same argument about a lawnmower and pair of garden shears...

Had one for 3 months now, a great toy in the early days, now me and Alexa don''t have a lot to say, other than "Alexa Play Elton John", I'm sure some interesting skills will come along soon.

Are these worth getting or just one of those gimmicky things that will be fun for a day or two then not used avain

I love mine but to make it truly effective you want things such as hue lighting or Tado heating. I've got 4 dots around the house and one echo in the living room. Well worth it! Just debating getting this one with a louder speaker for the kitchen while I am cooking and listening to my podcast. My kids love it as well as we are prime members and they get kids bop music or something like that. Asking it the time to turn on speific lights add things to my grocery list, whats the weather. Or random fact that come to mind. Its like having siri on standby but way cooler. But thats my 2 cents.

I've just got one from QVC for the same price without the need for a voucher

"Alexa, play that song that goes, is this the real life? is this just fantasy?"

Who really needs this?... If u have a partner for a few years you probably are just looking for a quite time ... Instead of another voice in your personal time

bargain

With p&p pretty sure it's £93 Or £94 on QVC

My 2 echo from tesco for £138 has been dispatched. They honoured it =)

Another "I need this" product. I'm out!

So my phone will respond to voice commands without touching it?...

Wouldn't want to listen to music on it without earphones anyway.

Tbh most useful thing for me is "Alexa, ask TrackR to find my phone" while I'm about to leave the house, it has been such a lifesaver! Also great for music when you want to hear a specific track or try an amazon radio playlist
At the moment I have a dot which was bought for me as a present, wondering whether to grab this for the lounge and move the dot upstairs/ kitchen or grab another dot and hook up a speaker instead...

IMO Cortana has a long way to come. The echo ‘just works’ whereas I find myself fighting with cortana to make her understand most of the time.

No but your phone will. And Cortana probably could if you tweaked it

Hey folks, just wondering about the differences between the Echo Vs the Dots. Got 3 Dots on Prime day, which are great.

Is the only real difference the speaker quality?

I felt the same, I didn't see the appeal of voice tech. But after being given a Dot as a gift from work, I'm sold. My Dot sits in the kitchen and gets used frequently, to play music, ask for the date or time quicker than hunting for a phone, add to shopping lists if I notice the fridge is missing something - and it's so simple to use, my four year old can tell it to play her favourite music.

I have Prime so my experience with things such as music may be biased, but you can upload your own music and Amazon authority any CDs you have bought... I would say get a Dot, does everything a full Echo can do and the speaker is fine.

Great price but it strikes me that it's coming down in anticipation of the Apple version very soon

The Homepod..I'm an IOS user but I think this is going to be too closed, for example it's going to be restricted to Apple Music, Amazon have been very open allowing developers to intergrate services...just my view

Just ordered, thanks. I must stop looking at this site, I keep purchasing items on a whim.

You can get the Amazon echo, brand new from places like gumtree and eBay for ~£85. They're filled with them. Why waste ur money, just little more effort I guess.

£4 more on this thread to pick up in store and peace of mind on warranty, but if you want to save a few quid on gumtree, crack on

I saw one for £80 this morning, so I thought since like the other day it was selling for £99 at Argos and people are getting hyped on this thread for £10 less, people might be interested in the fact it's £5-10 more off. They're selling them brand new too so no warranty issue, register with amazon.
