I'm guessing this is going cold as they were £40 each last week. Cheapest around at the moment though

Not sure why you would wait until the 40 quid for one offer ends only to then buy 3 for ten quid more.

Hot or cold doesn't bother me. Hopefully it's useful to some.

Managed to bag two at £35 each last week using the NOWTEN code glitch.

This is also the standard price, this 'deal' has been on since they launched.

Get your coats.

Biggest waste of money ever IMHO
Decent existing phone/tablet with wifi/Bluetooth speakers lights does exactly the same thing & more.

Err No it doesn't

Well I can ask phone to play a playlist, turn the heating up or turn my lights to a fancy colour & even ask if if I need an umbrella incase I can't see the weather outside.

Agree. I am returning mine !

I would agree they are a little limited, at the moment at least. The reason I've bought is for easy control of Hue lights and the upcoming Sonos and Harmony integration.

Dunno about you, but my phone doesn't listen very well while it's in my pocket or in a different room.

I use 'yonomi' (app on mobile, and on Alexa) to control my Harmony Hub, works a treat!

Lol take it out your pocket ?
My phone also does all what I mentioned above away from my home too
So if I wanted the heating on or lights on or even put on my playlist for the dog to jive to it's all simple.

But I do see your point about the different room tbf.
So I've got 4 bedrooms a kitchen living room garage conservatory and shed,so maybe sign me up for 3 packs of 3 lol
Or just take me phone out my pocket

The mind boggles

The mind boggles

Some people like to do things differently to you, is that hard to grasp? Why bother getting your phone out of your pocket when you could go and turn off the light switch, or turn down the thermostat?

Lol or get a pack of echo dots :-)

Not at all. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you need to propagate ignorance

No ignorance I bought the echo @ the Black Friday price of £119 tried it and realised it wasn't as good as I hoped for but it was a lovely looking speaker just not what I had hoped for.

It's a good deal. I was happy paying full price for my dots. Got my Echo for 99 on pre order. Got one dot with netatmo thermostat deal. paid the full 50 for another then bought one more from black Friday deals.

Ours get use every day. They're great - but only really if you're an Amazon prime member.

We make use of the amazon music streaming via the dots and Bluetooth speakers all the time. It's great.

As to the comments about doing nothing more than a smart phone, tell that to a blind person who can now access music, information, home heating and switching controls with just their voice.

How about the disabled. Those with cerebral palsy that struggle to use their hands with a fine enough degree of accuracy to use a tablet, let alone a phone.

Plus. They're also just fun. I bought mine because I love gadgets and music, controlling the lights with voice is fun and useful when my hands are full carrying items around the house.
I can appreciate they are for a select audience and the echo is superior to the dot but for the price, the dot is outstanding in functionality. It's also in its infancy and will continue to improve over time via updates and more skills.

In case you can't tell I'm an Alexa fanboy. I'll also get a Google home at somepoint just for fun and comparison.

That's fair enough. At least you tried it. Can completely appreciate it not being up to everyone's expectations. I had watched numerous videos from the American release prior to getting mine and was only let down by the lack of ifttt integration.

I've got Prime & it worked well with that for sure, but not as well as another device with Apple Music (who's home kit is the worse of the 3 at the moment ) as for the blind person all of what I mentioned originally you can do just by talking to you phone or tablet as long of course as it's all set up in the first place.
The 3 big players are all battling for our money for our hands free/voice in home set up but at the moment after trying them all they are all lacking IMHO .

Yes I've got them all to work by tinkering with them individually with different apps or commands but for a blind person I'd hold fire for now.

You can't get Amazon Music Unlimited on a phone for £3.99 a month.

Ok barryp1,I've got Amazonprime with a bit of music then lol, full Spotify full Deezer & full Apple Music

You cannot "Ask" a tablet to turn the lights on for you... go on then , show me how you can get interaction between nest/philips hue and the voice assistant on a tablet ? You can't. Because you can't add automation skills to a tablet. Yeah you can open the app and press buttons but you cannot flip open your tablet and say "Raise the heating to 20 degrees".

Since my mother doesn't understand technology, and wouldn't know what to do with an app her being able to speak to Echo works wonders in my house. Don't post bullcrap because you don't like the product.

My mother in law lives with us and she does exactly that with her tablet.
There's no need to get upset lol

No need to touch it as long as it can hear her

Why would you pay someone to bug your home?

Is that for me or the echo loyal please scrimper ?
If it's me I didn't know I was paying anybody to big my home

It's okay, we know you don't get it - you don't need to keep rambling on about it.

So, given how cold this deal has gone, can anyone find a better price?

Quite funny watching the arguments here.

Been able to do most of these things with an Android Wear smartwatch for about 2 years now. Keep up

Don't think so - the original offer was six for the price of five or the rather redundant twelve for the price of ten, iirc.

Oh well done - you're so much smarter than everrrrrrybody else!

I bought one Echo Dot, after reading lots of reviews and knowing that it is clever yet limited technology. I must say I love it for such a cheap price for its computing power. It was great after I had a recent operation, when it hurt to move in any direction, even to pick up a phone.

I could do with two Dots. I currently move mine between the bedroom where it is used mainly for lights, radio, music and audio books, and the kitchen where it is used as a timer, radio, newspaper headlines, lame jokes and to learn general knowledge without having to use a phone with wet or greasy hands.

They remind me of the early days of home computers: exciting technology that still needs to reach its full powerful potential.

I also thought how great it would have been when various past relatives who were in the last stages of their life, confined to living downstairs. They could have felt more in control e.g. switching on lights upstairs if they heard a strange noise at night, listening to audible book, checking the time at night without looking for their glasses, and changing the temperature if they became too hot or cold, etc.

As humans we are usually better off as creators and producers rather than mere consumers. Anything which reduces human physical movement is also detrimental to health. Nevertheless, this is interesting background consumer technology

This deal should only be rated cold if other can find a better deal. For people wanting to buy a dot, this is the best deal around. Voting hot for people who want it.

Don't you just love when people get their knickers twisted simply because they don't like something (or willing to pay for it) - there is no need to spoil the thread for everyone else! This is simply as bad as the buy new or lease the car debate we have had a number of times in the past.

I'd rather wait for google home
