With refined and upgraded speaker and design, the third generation Echo Dot is a voice-controlled smart speaker with Alexa that's perfect for any room. Just ask for music, news, information and more. You can also call anyone with an Echo device or the Alexa App, and control compatible smart home devices with your voice.

“Alexa, play popular songs”
Use your voice to play a song, artist or genre through Amazon Music, Spotify, TuneIn and others. With compatible Echo devices in different rooms, you can fill your whole home with music. Also listen to Audible and radio stations, or pair with Fire TV to voice-control films and entertainment.

Always ready to help
Make your life easier at home. Use your voice to set timers and alarms, add items to lists, or create calendar events and reminders. You can also check the news, weather or traffic, or ask for sports scores, cinema listings, restaurant hours or information.

Voice control your smart home
Switch on the lamp before getting out of bed or dim the lights from the sofa to watch a film; all without lifting a finger. Control multiple devices with a single voice command, like locking the doors and turning off the lights at night. Compatible smart devices sold separately.

Connect with others
Call anyone with an Echo device or the Alexa App hands-free using your voice. Use Drop In to quickly connect to another compatible Echo device at home or send an announcement across Echo devices, like calling the family for dinner or reminding the kids to go to sleep.

Echo sound
The speaker has been improved on the previous model for richer and louder sound. And even while music is playing, Echo Dot can hear you, thanks to four microphones and far-field technology. You can also connect to your own speakers over Bluetooth or with a 3.5 mm audio cable.

Alexa has skills
Alexa has tens of thousands of skills and counting. Skills are like apps and help you do more, such as playing True or False, tracking your fitness with Fitbit or falling asleep to rain sounds. Just say “Alexa, help me get started with skills”. New skills are being added all the time.

Total app control
Download the free Alexa app onto your Fire OS, Android, iOS device or desktop browsers for easy set up and control.

Just in case you don't know, like I didn't, you have to have a Spotify Premium account to play on this, the 'free' Spotify version won't work.
Must admit received mine today and compared to the 2nd gen it's amazing! Sound is way better, much more balanced than the tinny 2nd gen and volume is 100% louder on full. Great for £25.
Eh? £24.99 from amazon and free delivery.

Surprisingly hot! Got one this afternoon, did not want to post as already too many deals on this item, not long ago somebody posted the gen 2 for £19.99 and the deal's got freezing cold! Voted hot, hundreds of these at John Lewis today. Also, the bigger one for £54.99.

Some folk like shopping at John Lewis. It is ok if you have a store nearby and are going to be in the area. Also, you get an extra year warranty. Other than that, free delivery from Amazon is better.
Received the 2 I ordered and the speaker is just soooo much better than the 2nd gen, defo worth the upgrade
Two year guarantee is pointless on such a small item, it would be reasonable to expect the speaker to last at least two years. I'm certain of you bought it from Amazon ( or anywhere else) and it broke within two years they would replace it. Infact even after two years I'd at least contact the company and try to get it replaced/ repaired ( lol as if they would repair it ).

Yep this is the one big issue that renders is almost useless
Great price but these voice assistants are so basic. Google is a bit better
Can you use Deezer and what is the sound quality compared to the google mini?
Really not sure the extra is worth it for the warranty, how likely is it to break? It’s a pretty simple device, plus I am not sure i’d want to support a company that thinks it’s okay to charge £2 for click and collect, particularly when the device is the same price elsewhere.

£3.50 for delivery is also rather steep.
No stock at Amazon until 7th December.

Oh wow, that’s a deal breaker. Thanks for the heads up!
Purchased one from Sainsburys for £30.
Yes, used Nectar Double Up voucher which ends tomorrow. Got it for £15,rather than £30
Actually, got it for 0.00 - As it was redeemed from my Nectar points.
Shouldn't the title be updated to clarify this is an Echo Dot, and not a standard Echo?

Rather than simply demanding "Proof?" - perhaps try researching.

Amazon know exactly what devices are linked to your account and all devices are uniquely identifiable. They can even do it based on the packaging, as they associate them to your Alexa account when despatched, mine all were. This means that if they do decide to check (which obviously isn't 100% guaranteed) it would however be incredibly easy for them to see the history as each has it's own serial number and MAC address. I'll wager that based on some BI algorithms, they will check some accounts, particularly if a customer starts regularly returning a previously purchased product shortly after buying a new one.

And Amazon are certainly not afraid to block accounts.

yes, obviously considering I said exactly that
proof? I returned a tablet that I bought but was registered to a different account (was in warranty). I got an email about it and had to ring them and get the return processed on the other account, eventually, initially they wanted to return it to me, charge me postage then the account holder return it again. So clearly some are checked. Apparently they are 100% checked if they are going to be resold as refurbs.
