Amazing gadget. I've my bedside radio alarm with one of these. When I wake in the middle of the night it takes notes. Fall asleep to any radio station (from tunein) or music from amazon prime, and loads more. I have the full size edition in the lounge. Highly recommended gadget.

why cold? great device and I'm after another one (4th), if this is cold then please tell me where is cheaper?

You know what HUKD is like.. Some deals go crazy hot for no reason, and some good deals go cold for the same nonsensical reason. Though, I voted cold (sorry OP), because, although you may not be able to find it cheaper now, £44.99 is not the best price I've seen this for. I think the best price I've seen was £20 and (the stupid price of £10.. Which my colleagues got 4 of!! and wanted to sell to me for £20 lol). Anyway, the dot, although a tempting product to buy, is still a luxury item, so not necessarily something you "need to buy at any cost". So you can wait for it to come down in price first (not £10, but more like £25-£30?) Anyway, I've given you a long winded answer to why I voted cold.

Is this 1st or 2nd gen, thanks.

right i'm looking at one of these but dont have amazon prime or anything.

Can it:

Play music on request even if i dont have any type of premium music service?

Stream radio stations such as Radio X or Absolute 90s or the likes?

Does it acually need you to have an accout with amazon or can you just switch on and go?

Does it need you to have a smart phone to operate it?

thanks

Didn't vote cold, but has been sold for £40 and is currently $40 over the pond.

Appreciate your reply, just a pity cold voters haven't explained why themselves.

Accept that the price has been lower in the past though at time of Op posting this appeared to be the best price in the UK and was significantly lower than Amazon.

John Lewis have now priced at £44.95 and Currys is £44.99

Can anyone compare the sound quality to something? I know it is better plugged into a hifi, but as a standalone I wondered if it was as good as a small Bluetooth speaker, say the Anker core mini? Or is it as good as a portable radio?
I am interested in it for the kitchen then plugging it into the hifi when we want better quality.
We have a really small Bluetooth speaker if it is as good as that it will be fine.
