  • Control your home using voice commands
  • Compatible with a range of smart home systems
  • Far-field voice recognition picks up commands clearly

Amazon Echo Dot is a hands-free speaker that allows you to take control using just your voice. Connecting to devices using your home WiFi and Bluetooth, the device allows you hands-free convenience as it can hear you from across the room. Even when the environment is noisy, the seven microphones and beam-forming technology lets it pick up on your voice using the far-field voice recognition.

Amazon Echo Dot features built-in speaker, and can also connect to your speakers or headphones over Bluetooth or through a 3.5 mm audio cable to deliver stereo sound to the speakers you choose.

When you want to use Amazon Echo Dot, simply wake it by saying 'Alexa'.
Answers questions and provides information on demand

Alexa is the brain at the heart of Amazon Echo Dot, and updates through the cloud. It is continually learning, as well as adding new functions and skills. The more you use the Amazon Echo Dot, the more it will adapt to you, learning your speech patterns, personal preferences and vocabulary.

Using your voice, you can request information from the device to make your life easier. Amazon Echo Dot can answer questions, read audiobooks and news reports, provide traffic and weather reports, give information on local businesses, provide sport scores and schedules, and much more.

It can also do so much more to make your life easier when you enable skills. For example, why not order a takeaway from Just Eat or check train times on National Rail? There's many more to discover in the Alexa app. New skills are being added all the time.

Control lights, switches, thermostats and more

With Amazon Echo Dot you can quickly and easily adjust other smart technology around your home. Compatible with WeMo, Philips Hue, Hive, Netatmo and more, the device allows you to control lights, switches, thermostats and more using your voice.

Use the device to switch on your lamp before you even get out of bed or control the heating without needed to move. All you need to do is just ask Alexa.

Its sleek and compact design make the Amazon Echo Dot a convenient addition to any room in the house.

The 2nd gen has 7 mics and the 3rd gen has only 4
The new 3rd Gen is only £5 extra now during the Black Friday sales everywhere. You’d be better off getting that.
Hmm I think I've seen this price somewhere before...

Here they all come again...
Very strange that all amazon competitors are daft enough to sell the Alexa.

Make sure you have some links to back you. Seen the Argos deal for Amazon echo dot 3rd gen posted at 9pm ??

So this could be one such deal slipping through the net.

I'd heard mics were improved in gen3 models so just presumed there were more mics added.
Must've just improved mics as reviews on YouTube mention better mics.

They probably are "improved" but a review I read mentioned that Alexa could be a little hard of hearing from across the room if it wasn't quiet!
...a bit like myself in fact!

Just don't speak about your political views, what your planning on buying in the future or what your holiday plans are........and definitely don't talk about commuting a future crime........so you have to censor your own speech in your own home.....and don't think turning the power button off will make any difference.........

Definitely seem better so far, just less of them.
I think it’s probably worth paying the extra £5 for the newer model.
I can vouch that these listen in I was planning a crown jewels robbery and before I could carry it out Alexa said " Sorry I don't know that " Ever since cars parked outside my house keep changing and men in black walk down my road ........

Amazon sets the prices

I think you have misunderstood.
They commented about other companies selling Alexa devices, nothing about the price ....

They are questioning why big retailers like Currys would sell something that enables the customer to buy from amazon (IE a direct competitor) more easily in future.
somaKing:

I wish my life was exciting enough for someone to want to listen in.

It is not about having an exciting life and some black suited person swooping in, its about big data held on individual people and using that data to skew consumables and services provided to you.

An example is GSK recently brought '23andme', to most people it doesn't't mean a thing, however to those that understand how big data is changing the landscape it is huge.

Ever wonder why a pharmaceutical company would be interested in having your genetic make up, as well as all the other information you voluntarily provide...?

Amazon have vast data centres all over the world, all that gathered big data needs to be held somewhere of course...
Is there an echo in here?
Good deal but DONT'T BUY the old model until you have looked at the newer version. It's available at various outlets including Argos for only a fiver more, and having upgraded to one I can say there is no comparison sound wise. The sound from the older Echo Dot was OK-ish but I was always disappointed in having to link it to an external bluetooth speaker for any real listening.

The sound from the new model is stunning by comparson and gives real warm sounding bass, and with Tunein Radio installed is one of the cheapest ways to get digital radio (voice controlled too!)
New Amazon Echo Dot - Black £24.99

I see your point, I have the 2nd gen connected to a B&W speaker - I think the discounted v3 is still worth considering if you plan to run it on its own as the sound out of it is reported to be better.

That's what I'm thinking, was swayed by the BT Shop "deal or no deal" at thirteen quid each for Gen 2's.
... but we won't talk about that!

Just dont buy no further expansion needed
Get up walk around do some cardio vascular exercise
Burn some calories
Guess could use it to find your fitbit for you or book an ambulance for that heart attack you been saving for
suggest you change the title to 2nd gen to avoid confusion. Otherwise this is currently cold as 3rd gen is £5 more for a lot better package (unless you want lower power consumption)
What's with all the echo dot offers, I'll go crazy if I see another one.

I guess you comment about data collection on every mobile deal too then?

My life really is dull, but at least Amazon will know when I ask what time it is, or when I want my kitchen lights turned off.
