The sound quality is never going to be fixed as it’s not designed to be a speaker like the echo dots are. The idea is to plug it into a high-quality speaker or use it as a voice assistant in different areas where you wouldn’t have a dot I.e. bathroom, landing, kitchen

Some videos really shoot them down, especially when they compare them to the echo etc, but I've got a few of these set up as intercoms and the sound (as advertised) for voice is crisp.

BUT the sound for music etc is far from terrible. It's clean but base'less. But in an empty room, like an office or a workshop, it's more that suitable.

Just dont expect a rave.
I use one as a ring doorbell chime, works well with no delay.

It sounds like the 2nd gen echo dot that didn’t have very good sound quality either

I was about to ask if they could be used as a Ring door chime, so thanks for your comment. I'll be ordering one now

Thanks for the update.
Ive got one coupled with the USB motion sensor accessory and it's great for turning on/off smart plug enabled lights

True, it's not designed to play music (they even added that to the description!) But it's fair. Terrible is a little harsh

When the echo dot goes on offer for £25 I think it’s worth paying the £5 extra

Check some reviews, the Echo Dot is a much better speaker etc, but they are two entirely different purposes.

Echo dot has wires etc and people buy those funny hanging docks etc. For intercoms, for little small spaces, the flex is clean and unnoticeable plugged in.

Plus, the motion sensor add on, perfect when it's not an intercom - and instead becomes a burglar routine trigger!
lets have an alexa snooping on us in every corner of the house...
