What is the advantage of this thing over an echo dot apart from no cables?

You can charge devices on it via the USB port, it has a night light and a motion detector although the speaker is better on the dot

I thought it meant you can attach a motion sensor or nightlight to it, I don't think it has an inbuilt motion detector or nightlight.

No it's not built in and I am not sure if it comes with it or it has to be bought separate, I will let you guys know though as I have ordered one
I’ve got one in the kitchen and it’s pretty handy in that situation because it means I don’t have something on the worktop. It’s useful to be able to set multiple timers and control our Sonos speakers, though the dots and echo show we have elsewhere are far better devices in most ways.

really depends where you are putting the flex and what exactly you want it to do? For me its great near the front door, right as it opens its senses me then greets me - puts the hallway lights and living room lights on. I could have it turn on the kettle heating etc really ll depends what you have connected and what you want out of it.
