Add £10 for a 2nd gen from amazon

Or save a tenner, for the same thing and buy this one!

I am also looking for one and just thought the spec is slightly better on the gen 2 like temp sensor
I prefer the look of the 1st gen myself, hate the fabric looks of the newer ones.
Got both, G1 and G2. Not only that I like the look of G1 more, I also think it sounds better. Very good price, voted hot, I don't think you can get a better brand new smart speaker for this price.

Is this still compatible with echo dots? Thanks

For someone new to all these smart speaker. Would you suggest gen 1 or gen 2 if say I want to connect it to lighting and controlling main switches..?

This is overkill for that scenario, a dot would be a more sensible and cheaper option
I have a few different types of Echo’s and think that these sound the best, I’d definitely buy another at this price if I didn’t already have 3 lol

Great find OP, heat added

Unless it has the Philips Hue hub built in, they all work exactly the same regardless of model or generation
G1 won't stereo... g2 will... found out the hard way

I control my lights and lamps with all, G1,2 and Echo Dot 3. Absolutely no difference. Apart from the fact that Dot3 is a bit deaf and I need to shout. If you want it only for this, I will suggest to get Echo Dot 3, as it is the cheapest and does the job. If you want to listen to music too, choose G1 or 2.

You mean if you have a dot you can use this as well? Yes, you can.

You will need at least an echo plus. If you dont buy a plus you will need some type of bridge to control the lighting etc.

As others suggested, bare in mind, these devices do not have a hub integrated, you will need an Echo Plus with the hub.
However, I do not have any devices with the hub and I still can use Sonoff smart plugs (for lamps), Sonoff led strips, or Eufy light bulbs. Some brands, such as TP Link, Yeelight, Eufy, Sonoff, I think Blink alarm systems too, etc, do not require any hubs.
If you get an Echo with a hub, you will have more choices, but you can manage with a basic echo too.
