just a pity they are taking YOUTUBE off their system in January.. !! just a pity they are taking YOUTUBE off their system in January.. !! Gonna sell all my fire sticks..

Doing that just plays into Google’s hands. They like hiding behind the whole 'do no evil' mantra to make out they are a fair and ethical company but they have been anti competitive since day 1. They took an open source os in Linux and used it to build Android only to lock most of the important parts up in play services which require a licence to include, a licence which locks device manufacturers into using core android with the only customisation being skinning and which requires all the google services to be bundled in with it even when it’s pointless for that device and just slows things down (a streaming device doesn’t need a bloated browser, a bloated email client, google drive, office apps etc etc). It also locks them into only using google pay meaning 30% of any transaction goes to google (meaning all of Amazons take on any digital movies sold. If you choose to do a fork to allow it to be more efficient on your devices though you can’t get play services which means the likes of Amazon can’t include casting in their tablets. And because Amazon didn’t just roll over Google first refused to release any of their useful services outside of YouTube on the FireTV and even youtube is the most crippled and awful youtube app going and it hasn’t been updated since pretty much day 1. Google are an evil company and as consumers we should actually be getting behind Amazon who are pushing for more open platforms, obviously they are motivated in that it’s better for them but it’s good for us. We have already seen Apple actually backdown somewhat to provide a more open environment than at the ATV4 launch which has not just allowed Amazon to launch but also other video services such as VUDU in the states
Wow for once something I wanted to buy and was waiting for had a serious reduction got two with the code at 3am this is what we were always going to get my mum for Christmas she is disabled and has a dot and a echo already and they have made a huge positive change to her life
Hopefully they will settle their spat with Google and you will be able to continue to use Youtube on the show.

They are worth about £170, potentially at midnight you could get 2 for £160 using this code!

Yes.
Though someone will correct me and by adding Kodi you turn it into a 10 Screen multiplex cinema.

It all depends on whether you pay for content or are happy to exploit copyrights.

No idea. Installed it once, hated it. Then stuck with the content I pay for.

If the £100 off code works (unlikely) then wouldn't it be 2 for £160?
Read up on the Amazon and Google spat regarding these devices... Unfortunately having no YouTube support or Google services would make any device a no go for me. You could of course sideload apps, but that could be plugged at any time.

I find you need to keep it up-to date (i.e. new build) every couple of months to access the content

Yes thats right, you could buy 2, keep one until after xmas and sell for a profit on eBay etc so the one you purchased could be very cheap.

They aren't. The pestering message (defaulted to exiting back out thr app, classy move) which explains its stopping on Jan 1st is from Google, not Amazon. It's part of the webpage UI (Because Google are too mazy to make proper fluid native apps on any devices) rather than being a native messagedialog. It's this kind of monopolistic behaviour from Google which stops me buying any of their home automation gear.

if that works i might just do it. been looking at one of these for the kitchen, always on with alexa (we have a dot aleadry so this would replace it) but add in the screen for cooking videos and use the calander as a screen saver!
Great deal, voted hot.
Anyone who needs YouTube should consider one of the Roku streaming sticks, as they have all the UK streaming services such BBC iPlayer, and all4 as well as YouTube, Google play movies, Now tv , amazon video and Netflix.
I have SPMC on the Amazon Fire TV. Does anyone know if the refersh rate issue has been fixed?

I use youtube to find a new build, search ‘top tutorials’ and he gives you step by step guides to put the latest build on, he updates regularly with new builds so just try a few and see which works best

Could you elaborate? I know the new one doesnt have a network port, but besides that what's missing?
I'll wait for 2nd Gen one next year and wait until they get you tube sorted, pointless without it really.
