Unfortunately I still don’t think they are good value even at that price. …Unfortunately I still don’t think they are good value even at that price. It’s a glorified picture frame really and doesn’t do much more than a standard Echo I only paid £58 for mine and wouldn’t recommend paying much more. This however does make the SpotsSeem very expensive indeed they needed to be nearer £75

I check my front door when there is motion. My kids play YOUTUBE videos using the search function. When I am away I DROP IN on my kids and I video chat with the whole family at the same time. We play music on it when we are partying in the living room (good sound quality). My wife streams recipe videos on it in the kitchen. AND LOADS MORE...

You could but they stopped it. Unlikely that it will ever come back in my opinion

It's a shame the screen can't really be used for anything useful. I sold mine as all you can get on the screen is random reminders and upcoming calendar events. Music lyrics & album art were the only vaguely useful things. A real waste of a potentially good device.

How?

Put two in your basket and go to checkout.
I find mine really useful. I'm disabled and when I'm not well I can speak to everyone from my bed, we habe a park outside my house, so I can keep an eye on my kids with it, I watch prime content, control the lights and the electrics when I can't get up to do it, and I can have a lil wail along to some music if I want to, singing the right words haha! I love it but it is over priced at rrp. Gutted about YouTube as it would make it a really useful thing to have

You can now ask the show to play videos like cooking, how to, music videos etc
40 quid for echo dot and 40 quid for a refurb Fire and they do more than this overpriced item. hen this comes down to 79 it might be worth a punt.

How much for a speaker that sounds way better than either of them? Let me guess £40.
Now put it all into the same casing for convenience, £20. Oh look it’s an Amazon Show.

We have 2 of these. Rarely use the camera, not really dig into it. We do however use it every day for weather, music, kids prime content. It sounds better than dots and the original Echo.

I’m not saying it can’t do anything. I’m saying that it doesn’t do much that a device costing £40 doesn’t do. Yes video chat is available but that can be done on a tablet (android or iOS) that many of us already have. Same for YouTube. And the video calling is of great use as long as you’re in front of your Show whenever someone rings the doorbell.

Mikes may vary but IMHO it’s not worth £100 at this present moment in time

Your uses of course are fantastic and many will have very specific and useful uses for a Show or any home automation equipment.

One Dot and a Sonos Play 1 is close to the same p ice and the sound quality is far better than ANY echo device.

You can even get a Sonos One for the original RRP so all in one (which Inalso have) but I prefer the flexibility is different separate devices

Do you realise DROP IN can be initiated on a mobile when you are away from home? This makes the echo show to work as an indoor IP Camera (many which cost over £40) that way you can check on your house whenever you like.

So Echo Show can be thought of as a
1. Tablet,
2. IP camera,
3. Bluetooth speaker,
4. Alexa smart-speaker,
5. Smarthome automation integrator,
6. Radio player,
7. Part of multi-room speakers (synchronised playback for all rooms),
8. Home entertainment/family games (with echo buttons),
9. Alarm clock,
10. Weather station/console,
11. Intercom,
12. Video conferencing

All integrated into one device...

In addition, if one is technically gifted, there are loads of other applications that can be activated by installing community developed skills

Yes fully aware. Thanks though.

I’ve got a full Internal and external home camera setup already that does a fantastic job

1 it’s not a tablet. A tablet is a portable rechargeable device
2. It’s not an IP camera. An IP camera can be accessed from any browser
3. Yes it’s a Bluetooth speaker. But there are good ones available for very little I know as I have a few.
4 Yes it is Alexa, of course
5 this goes with 4
6 this also goes with 4
7 this also goes with 4
8 this also goes with 4
9 this also goes with 4
10 see above
11 and again
12 video conferencing and a video call are very different things. Video conferencing normally infers more than two people on a call and Alexa cannot do this on the Show. In fact neither can FaceTime. I believe Skype can but it’s not supported on the Show.

So yes all of that is integrated into one device but most of that (5,6,7,8,9,10,11) is achievable on a Dot as well, albeit with rubbish sound quality.

I’m glad you get loads out of it but to suggest it’s good value at 140 is a bit of a stretch I’m afraid.

Again I have one and an Echo v2 and 7 Dots. I think the Alexa ecosystem is great but the Show is very very lacking

Yep, I replaced my Show with a Sonos One and am happy with the change

The sound quality is on another level but it does get expensive when you add more and more speakers.

The gist of the post was to highlight popular functionality (not to say the echo show should replace your cameras etc) esp to help others on here...
For intercom mode, other echo devices do not show you the video of the caller/visitor at the door...
Alexa for business is bringing video conferencing... Like I said, some features may require technical skills or one may have to way for them to become mainstream...
£140 may be step, but what i disagreed with was your statement "it doesn’t do much that a device costing £40 doesn’t do"
If you are to buy those devices separately (echo dot & tablet ) you may have to pay much more than £140, certainly more than £40
So, yeah, i agree its currently expnsive, but worth more than the £40 that you suggested...

To some but not most. Check out the heat of the deal. Amazon knows this hence dropping the price in a short space of time themselves.

When the Google version comes out the price will drop even more

My main argument is that most people do not want all of those things. They want some of those things and for that the 40 device is more than adequate and that’s why the Dot is the best selling Alexa device.
2 questions - can you watch amazon prime videos on it? Can you set one up in Germany and have video chats with the Uk or will it block chats not in the Uk?
