Bought one a couple of weeks ago and I must say I'm pretty disappointed at how limited it is. Yes, the build quality, sound, picture etc is very good, but it could do so much more if it had a decent browser and didn't rely on the limited so-called 'skills' to enable functions. Worth it at £59, but I wouldn't bother at full price - better off with a full-function android tablet than what is essentially a glorified alarm clock with an mp3 player built in.

How's the sound in comparison to the standard Echo?
Amazing sound quality
Hi,I don't have any Amazon echo but do have some Google mini second gens around the house to,sound is far superior than them.much full sound, more body or full range .the small speaker only have limited low range minimal mids ok highs. If I didn't have so many speakers around the house I might have purchased another, but I have a lot already lol

got one of these from Amazon last week, bit confused as with echo dot, you just say alexa play lbC, and it plays, with this you have to say play lbC london, also can't seem to access radio stations like I can on dot, e.g.play radio 4 works on dot, on echo 8 - nothing apart from that, the sound is very good

Apparently there's a "silver edition" which may help:

Thanks I'll reorder from Currys if my Amazon one isn't delivered which is now showing tomorrow or refund.
These are ace. I'm a wheelchair user so kinda rely on my smart things, works well with hue and Ring, actually now works as a chime for my ring doorbell (even if it's still playing Christmas music! ) it's nice if you are singing along to a bit of music as the lyrics come up on screen, handles YouTube better than the v1 which I've just replaced with this one, the sound is better too and the screen is a big upgrade as well. I drop in on my kids room (mostly to see if it's tidy up there!) and can talk to those upstairs without hollering which is a nice plus. The 5 really is too small, the kids have them and I think those are a glorified alarm clock myself. But I can see what my kids are up to upstairs, check on them outdoors and do all the fancy lighting stuff too. At this price, we'll worth it.
These are crap, I actually prefer the smaller version, much faster at opening ring streams.
same price at amazon.amazon are doing payments £12 a month for 5 months or full payment.
had mine a week and its brilliant. i have a dot and added this. set up the lighting and as im paraplegic i wish i done this years ago. wake up to the radio every morning and stream from my iphone. drop into another room to get help. simply worth every cent.

I just shout instructions at the kids such as "who's at the door?" and "turn the lights on!"
Maybe not as quick as Alexa and with a bit more attitude, but super reliable as no wifi or power is required.

Smidge more expensive and maintenance is more involved, if they're anything like my kids!

The problem is that you have to feed the kids, put clothes on their, backs put a roof over there heads and buy expensive presents for them or they don't talk to you.

I prefer Alexa

They do have a browser,
I use mine for listening to music, watchin videos, can look at my nest cameras on them, broadcast messages to other devices, multi room music, control all my smart life stuff, Alexa switch on garden lights, alexa switch off lounge, alexa switch on tv, alexa change source on tv to xbox, etc, endless, great buy at £60

I've got legs and fingers to do most of that.

Well you dont need one then
Good deal. I mainly use mine to view my camera feeds. Alexa is pretty useless at answering questions though.

I know, in fact it's got 2; 3 if you count the hack that now times out after 1 minute. I did say a decent browser.

You bought a child from Amazon??
How easy is it to setup one of these remotely for an elderly relative without a smartphone? Want to be able to video call them easily.

Did one for IT illiterate mum in law today. Opened her an email.account then opened amazon account for her logged in and asked her for code that was texted from amazon.Added her email to contact details on wifes mobile.Set up drop in calls by using mobile and echo show. Exrension lead in garden to set up wifi , could have done beforehand but she couldn't read info on her router. Gave her email and info about alexa sign up to family to make video calls and practiced from garden window how to touch green button to accept calls and turn off call. Going to be difficult but she can use mobile when confused. Sound difficult but not really. She is 81 and its worth it if she keeps connected and gets to see great grand children etc.
Also available in Charcoal too
£119.99 now
Great product. Back on offer.

Do more with Alexa

A hub for almost everything, the Amazon Echo Show 8 helps with your everyday. The 8" display is perfect for following step-by-step recipes while you're cooking dinner, glancing at traffic updates before you start the school run, setting timers, updating your calendar, and more. You can even create morning and evening routines - it's a perfect little PA.

Enjoy entertainment with the help of Alexa - watch TV programmes, films, or music videos. Listen to music from streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer, and see song lyrics and album art with Amazon Music.

A smarter home

Alexa works with an ever-growing list of smart home devices, such as security cameras, lighting, baby monitors, thermostats, and more. Ask Alexa to lock the doors while you're tucked in bed, check your doorbell camera from your living room, or dim the lights for movie night – without having to reach for your phone.

Hands-free video calling

Echo Show makes video calling easier. Make hands-free calls to friends and family who have an Echo Show, Echo Spot, or the Alexa app on their smartphone. You'll see and hear your loved ones clearly, without frustrating lag. You can also link Alexa to your Vodafone mobile account (UK only) to make and answer phone calls, so you'll never miss anything important.

It's ideal for connecting with family around the home, too. Check in too see if the kids really are doing their homework or call them down to dinner by making a voice announcement.

The Echo Show 8 has been designed with your privacy in mind. There's a button to turn off the microphone and a built-in sliding cover for the camera.

Hi, great device for the money,I have three of them really good . really good sound and display good size
Thanks op. I decided to get one of these yesterday and the price was up to £119!
On Amazon I think I saw this for £120.... Is there variations of the show 8?
Odd that it doesn't seem to include the Spotify promotion.

It’s the same. It’s just that the sale on Amazon for it ended yesterday.
Great deal
Grabbed this on launch for the same price and its a bargain at this price .
Volume isn't too loud , but great sound quality and I use the screen as digital photo frame mostly and linked 2000 photos to it .
It also links to my blink camera system, but I use my phone mostly for that .
