What is Echo Show?

Voice responses from Alexa are now enhanced with visuals and optimised

for visibility across the room. Call or message your family and friends

who also have an Echo or the Alexa App, get the news with a video flash

briefing, see your Prime Photos, shop with your voice, see lyrics with

Amazon Music, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and more. All you

have to do is ask.

Perfect sound

- Echo Show has eight microphones and beam-forming technology so it can

hear you from across the room, even while music is playing. Echo Show

is also an expertly tuned speaker that can fill any room with immersive

audio powered by Dolby. When you want to use Echo Show, just say the

wake word “Alexa” and Echo Show responds instantly.

Amazon Music Unlimited

- on top of your free one-month subscription, we're giving you a

further two free months of the Family Plan for new Amazon Music

customers! Stream 40 million of the best songs, new and old, through

your Echo Show.

Be together more

- make hands-free video calls to friends and family who have an Echo

Show or the Alexa App. When you’re busy making dinner, just ask Alexa to

place a call from your Echo Show to anyone with a supported Echo device

or the Alexa App.

Say hello with Drop In

- enable this new feature for the special cases when you want to

connect with your closest friends and family. You can drop in to let the

family know it’s time for dinner, see the baby’s nursery or check in

with a close relative. With Drop In, you’re always in control - turn it

on or off at any time, select who is allowed to drop in on you and

choose which devices are available for Drop In. You can also decline

Drop Ins.

Info at a glance

- for news and information you can see and hear, just ask Alexa for

your video flash briefing from the BBC, The Telegraph and more. Curious

about the latest film trailers? Just ask. You can also stay super

organised at home. Start a timer in the kitchen and watch as it counts

down, or easily see and manage your family’s calendar. Sign in to the

Alexa App to take your to-do and shopping lists with you. Instantly add

an item to your list with Echo and see it in your Alexa App when out

shopping.

Voice control your music

- powered by Dolby, Echo Show is fine-tuned to deliver crisp vocals with

dynamic bass response and expansive sound. Watch as the display comes

alive to show song lyrics, custom stations, curated playlists and album

art with Amazon Music. Echo Show also connects to Spotify, TuneIn and

more, giving you voice control for your music, plus it's

Bluetooth-enabled so you can stream other popular music services such as

Apple Music from your phone or tablet. Please note that if you are

currently an iTunes user, there is a limit to the amount of songs you

can upload to your Amazon music library to use with your Echo Show.

Control your smart home

- use Echo Show to see a live camera feed from the nursery or your

front door. Turn on the fan or dim the lights from the sofa - all

without lifting a finger. Echo Show works with smart home devices such

as cameras, lights, locks, thermostats and more.

Always getting smarter

- Alexa constantly updates through The Cloud automatically and is

continually learning, adding new functionality and skills. The more you

use Echo Show, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary

and personal preferences. To set up the Skills feature, simply input a

Where is the Maplin price for £150? It says £199

it was the other day when i orginally posted this but its now back to £199.99

Alternatively if you wanted 2, buy it from Amazon for £200 each and £100 off the total (£300 for 2 using code SHOW2PACK).

JP

Don't buy just yet! Usually when Amazon products are reduced it means Amazon will also be discounting the product too, I reckon we'll see it at the same price on Amazon tomorrow!

Think I'd wait till tomorrow before buying this

Already posted

Think the already posted one is slightly more? If amazon don’t discount I might go for this

32532738-p6yup.jpgMight be worth trying this code for £5 of if your a new customer buying this from QVC - FIVE4U

Anyone know of offers like this from high street retailers? Gutted I missed the Maplin deal.

Seems a nice deal. I'm waiting for Amazon to put it on sale but so far nothing. Do you guys think they will eventually put it on sale? I really don't want to miss the deal.

well nothing happened! amazon let us down!

I was waiting for that as well. I thought Amazon would put the price down but nothing at all. I reckon this one is the best deal. I'll have to use this one.

Shame youtube doesn't work on it anymore...

having both this and the no show, I prefer the no show, a lot less clutter

Err, why not buy a fire hd 7 for 30 quid?

Err, why not buy a fire hd 7 for 30 quid?

Alexa hands free (can be triggered wholly by voice, no need to press screen)

No You tube can be played with Alexa. No hub . Poor display. Negative

This product makes no real sense for the money Th Fire HD 10 does the same job but with a bigger screen and in a more versitle package.

Looks a good deal, why wait if you like the product ? try asking amazon if you can have interest free 3 Easy Pays of £53.32

Grabbed. thanks OP!

Decent price for one. I went halves on 2 with a friend so £150.

Quite like mine, those comparing to a fire tablet missing the point. Mines in the kitchen which imo is the raisen d'etre for its existence so no need for greasy bacteria ridden fingerprints on the screen, microphone is much more sensitive, speakers far better. Will be glad when YouTube returns next spring, looking forward to a Netflix skill.

It's not meant for doing things on. It's just meant to be a top-level Echo for those that want one.

A tablet with a stand would do a terrible job of being shouted at from across the room.

Having fewer functions and justifying that its not supposed to do those things doesn't cut it.

Another simple option would be to just connect an Amazon dot to a Amazon fire 7 tablet. Youll get a full functioning tablet with access to the entire internet and all apps, plus Alexa, and it costs £60 for the 2.

It will also give you a bonus of twin speakers by putting sound out on both the dot and the tablet at the same time.

you totally miss the point of what this device is. Its an Echo but with better speakers and a screen. Its not a tablet. Even if you just use it as an internet radio its a good deal. Add the ability to show the family diary and shopping lists on screen its worth it. Add to it the ability to turn on lights or the heating via skills its great. I can walk in the back door with shopping in my hand and say Alxea turn on the lights and heating. You cant do that with a tablet. Its hands free thats the point

Yeah, people are missing the point totally. The screen isn't rubbish at all. Unless you press your retinas against it it looks perfectly sharp. Sharper for its size than most (if not all) HD TVs.

Also, a tablet can't be controlled by voice and doesn't have speakers even a fraction as good as these. What it is, is a WiFi connected Bluetooth speaker with hands-free control and a screen. In that respect it's a bargain. The sound is good and fills a room comfortably. Most decent Bluetooth speakers are around the same price and exclude most of the features.

Thats what the £34 echo dots for.

The screen must serve a purpose, otherwise youre paying £130 extra for a large clock and showing shopping lists.

Now if the echo show could surf the internet , install apps, use whats app, skype, play games, watch videos, browse google maps AND have the functions of Alexa, I get it. Youre combining the functions of a tablet with Alexa.

But it doesnt.

An echo dot connected to a fire tablet on a stand will do everything that the echo show can do + everything else.

Having a screen that cant browse the internet or run apps is useless. Youre paying a premium for 1 dimensional functions.

You can get 2 off of amazon for £150 and free delieif you use the code SHOW2PACK

Amazon have agreed with Google the terms so it's coming back.

WHY oh why would you want this anyway ?

An echo dot cant fill a room with sound and the screen does serve a purpose. Like you say, it can show a clock or shopping lists or calendar but also news or weather forecast, or door cam, or film or skype call, or to do list or spotify playlist, or recipe or kids spelling or maths without having to load and click on an app. Thats a purpose in that respect its better than a tablet for a family in a kitchen. A screen enhances the voice function. I don't want the functions of a tablet. I have a tablet for that. If it had the functionality of apps it would need internal processor and be much more expensive and need maintenance (loading apps, upgrades etc). With this I just turned it on and haven't had to touch it. If I only use it to show the album artwork when playing spotify its a +. I cant see how you connect a dot to a tablet and have it permanently on without having to touch it. Its a great device and I am surprised how useful the screen is. The fact it doesnt need apps is so libertating.

Got a link, i was reading about it but havent seen them agreeing yet.?
I see why they cut it off, and see their point.
Dependent on google, was the reason i went with Home instead of the Alexa stuff.
Can turn it off anytime they want.

I like the idea of one of these 'show'ing me a recipe or something while i'm cooking or video calling someone. Not a bad idea but I dumped my Amazon stuff because of the shocking voice recognition.

You can sync a tablet to the dot. So you can have a dedicated tablet for the dot.

If you say "Alexa add X to my shopping list" to the Dot, your tablet will also show your shopping list just like the Echo show does. i.e all the functions youre talking about - showing the calendar, recipes, you can already do with a tablet by wirelessly connecting the dot to your tablet.

Except a Dot connected to a tablet can browse the internet if you want and do 1 million other functions but the echo show cant.

Imagine you want to do a video call with the Echo Show thats on the kitchen work bench - youll need to bend down and align your face to the camera.

With a tablet you just unplug it and place it anywhere, sit on a chair and put it on a table or take it around the room. What are you going to do with the show?

Or how about you want to see your calender over cornflakes? the show is sitting in the corner next to the power socket, a tablet on a stand can be unplugged moved about and shown around.

i.e the tablet is a mobile dashboard for the dot, but is unrestricted in the way the echo show is.
