sorted byVery underwhelming bass from the sub, would even say not noticeable without physically touching the sub itself to see if it’s working. Got my mrs to do a ‘blind’ test, with and without sub and she even preferred without sub.
I used the 25% off accessories code.
Sent off an old Gen 1 echo to them yesterday that I purchased from Ebay for about £12.50 delivered. This was received and processed by Amazon in a matter of hours.
£20 Voucher credit and 25% off the Echo Sub.
Total cost £59.99
Hope it was worth the hassle, I'm pairing it with a couple of echo studios. (edited)
This was a huge pain the bum, and not at all straight forward. Must have taken me 3hrs in total of fault diagnosis and trial & error. Was close to sending it back as faulty but then read something on the internet which finally made it work.
Firstly, I had an issue getting them to connect as a pair. This is common apparently. I had to deregister both devices and set them up as new, then they finally connected together.
Second issue, when ever I connected them. My speaker disappeared from Spotify so I couldn't connect to it. Using the Alexa voice command to play music just used the speaker and not the sub. 🤦
Must have deregistered and over and again about 15 times and still no dice. Same result every time.
Tried a factory reset of the Echo Studio to see if it's a previous setting I'd messed with and still nothing. By this point I was convinced the sub was a dud.
Then I read a comment on here saying it only works with Amazon Music. Checked that app and saw the speaker pair. Played music and the sub worked. But I don't use Amazon Music and if it didn't work with Spotify I was going to send it back. However everything I read stated that it should work with Spotify. So back to the internet I went.
One more Google and I got a eureka moment. Apparently if you say "Alexa, Spotify Connect" to the speaker, it tries to force it to connect to Spotify and add it to the list of speakers. I've never had to do this before, my speakers are usually auto-detected in Spotify when I set them up.
Anyway, this worked. And now I'm enjoying the Studio & Sub combo with Spotify music.
What a torturous experience though, usually my Amazon products 'just work' but during my Google research it appears these subs are riddled with software issues.
Sorry for the wall of text. But hopefully this helps others that may be experiencing the same issues. (edited)
All I can think is that maybe something changed either in the speaker firmware or Spotify App since I originally set it up last year.
Try are also grouped with a Fire TV cube. Dolby Amtos streamed movies also sound great.
And finally they are also grouped with an Echo Link with a turntable line in. My records sound just as good as a half decent Hifi without the hassle of a separate hifi and speaker system.
In all 3 of these groups the sub really does make a difference.
The only downside is that some audio sources cause the bass to be too powerful for my liking so I have to turn it down (via the Alexa app).
If you’ve got a pair of echo speakers lacking some oomph then consider getting one of these.
most of the time they work, however occasionally it’s a pain and one speaker doesn’t work or you get the echo glitching.
however, when working (most the time) sound and base is good.
The last time I asked Alexa to play an album (via amazon Music), I got the whole album, all tracks in the right order and with no 'additions'.
The sub didn't want to link to my Studios in the app at first. So, I just unplugged the sub and one studio and restarted them. Everything went smoothly after that.
If you can't beat 'em...
Ordered!
I'm waiting to buy my first studio when I get my trade in voucher
Good deal though, thanks
Would this sub work for that, or is the amp going to introduce a delay? Should I just get a better amp and a non-Amazon sub?
