FYI anyone using with Echo Studios. Received this sub yesterday and returning; very disappointing performance on a ground floor. You can’t control the sub bass specifically in the EQ without impacting the paired Echo Studios, as there’s no proper crossover of the bass.

Very underwhelming bass from the sub, would even say not noticeable without physically touching the sub itself to see if it’s working. Got my mrs to do a ‘blind’ test, with and without sub and she even preferred without sub.

Hi, serious question, I have two studios, is the sub worth the addition to this setup and also worth the extra £90, or once again in danger of jumping in, on the collective buying ?
    BrianHalligan's avatar
I absolutely say save your hard earned money an NO... unless you only use Amazon music HD.....it doesn't work with Spotify an YouTube music...it's such a waste
  3. GreenHorse's avatar
It is possible to get this a fair bit cheaper.

I used the 25% off accessories code.
Sent off an old Gen 1 echo to them yesterday that I purchased from Ebay for about £12.50 delivered. This was received and processed by Amazon in a matter of hours.
£20 Voucher credit and 25% off the Echo Sub.
    Total cost £59.99
Hope it was worth the hassle, I'm pairing it with a couple of echo studios. (edited)

If this is set up with two x echos as suggested, what happens with non-musical day to day interactions? Can one be set not to ‘listen’ and respond so it’s just working as a speaker?
    Dusty666's avatar
change the wake word so they both respond to different names.

Bought Mrs one with studio an it only works with Amazon music hd, an not Spotify......unless something has changed.

you can play Spotify, just not able to ask it to play. To be clear you can use as a simple bluetooth speaker (edited)

Mine arrived last night and i intended on connecting it to the Echo Studio in my home office.

This was a huge pain the bum, and not at all straight forward. Must have taken me 3hrs in total of fault diagnosis and trial & error. Was close to sending it back as faulty but then read something on the internet which finally made it work.

Firstly, I had an issue getting them to connect as a pair. This is common apparently. I had to deregister both devices and set them up as new, then they finally connected together.

Second issue, when ever I connected them. My speaker disappeared from Spotify so I couldn't connect to it. Using the Alexa voice command to play music just used the speaker and not the sub. 🤦

Must have deregistered and over and again about 15 times and still no dice. Same result every time.

Tried a factory reset of the Echo Studio to see if it's a previous setting I'd messed with and still nothing. By this point I was convinced the sub was a dud.

Then I read a comment on here saying it only works with Amazon Music. Checked that app and saw the speaker pair. Played music and the sub worked. But I don't use Amazon Music and if it didn't work with Spotify I was going to send it back. However everything I read stated that it should work with Spotify. So back to the internet I went.

One more Google and I got a eureka moment. Apparently if you say "Alexa, Spotify Connect" to the speaker, it tries to force it to connect to Spotify and add it to the list of speakers. I've never had to do this before, my speakers are usually auto-detected in Spotify when I set them up.

Anyway, this worked. And now I'm enjoying the Studio & Sub combo with Spotify music.

What a torturous experience though, usually my Amazon products 'just work' but during my Google research it appears these subs are riddled with software issues.

Sorry for the wall of text. But hopefully this helps others that may be experiencing the same issues. (edited)

Strange - FWIW my speaker group which includes the sub showed up automatically in my Spotify addressable speakers, just as you expected yours to.  I certainly never had to use that Spotify connect command.

All I can think is that maybe something changed either in the speaker firmware or Spotify App  since I originally set it up last year.

I have 2 x Echo Studio linked to an Echo Sub. IMHO the Studio pair sound great and the sub is the icing on the cake. If you are wavering, go for it, this is a great deal (edited)

I have this grouped with a pair of Echo Studios. Spotify and Amazon music sounds great.

Try are also grouped with a Fire TV cube. Dolby Amtos streamed movies also sound great.

And finally they are also grouped with an Echo Link with a turntable line in. My records sound just as good as a half decent Hifi without the hassle of a separate hifi and speaker system.

In all 3 of these groups the sub really does make a difference.

The only downside is that some audio sources cause the bass to be too powerful for my liking so I have to turn it down (via the Alexa app).

If you’ve got a pair of echo speakers lacking some oomph then consider getting one of these.

I take it that it'd be overkill linked to a pair of Echo Dot 5th Gen, it may drown them out? I would think a pair of Echos would be a minimum requirement or else there'd be no point? I can't find an official line on this anywhere... (edited)

Arrived in the morning. Boomy a bit. Very high cut off frequency with echo dot 4. Very loud even on minimum. How to listen in the night in a terraced house... Can't switch it temporarily off. I have mine inside the bed on a carpet. Overall decent upgrade to the sound.
    ZennZero's avatar
You can adjust the balance for the whole group in the Alexa app, which helps a bit. But not per speaker, unfortunately.

    Well, bass-ically…

Thanks so much, Ordered. I've been waiting for a decent price for ages. This will cheer the neighbours up, it's being linked to 2 echo studios!
    Solidcancer07's avatar
Ha! Your neighbours here I ordered too. Let the sound showdown begin! (edited)

I’ve packed mine away. They are cool, you can set it up with either an Exho show or 2 x echos.

most of the time they work, however occasionally it’s a pain and one speaker doesn’t work or you get the echo glitching.

however, when working (most the time) sound  and base is good.

Was about to buy but then remembered how Amazon Music now insists on shuffling & adding random tracks to the CDs that I have already purchased (as well as for every other album). Until they fix that I won't be investing any more money on Amazon speakers or Echos
    horace's avatar
I haven't noticed that - is it a recent change?

The last time I asked Alexa to play an album (via amazon Music), I got the whole album, all tracks in the right order and with no 'additions'.

Thanks op. Mine arrived yesterday. Linked with my pair of Studios. The tone of the music now is so much broader. Subtle but just enough for me. Transforms some classical pieces. Drums now have real depth.
The sub didn't want to link to my Studios in the app at first. So, I just unplugged the sub and one studio and restarted them. Everything went smoothly after that.

I've come to the realisation with this deal that a large part of my neighbourhood must be on HUKD.

Is the account specific at random, or has it followed any rules? Would starting a fresh account make it work?
    Gregme's avatar
Not sure but it works when you apply code only , the account didn't work it out based on my account and purchase
  19. misterjoint's avatar
Been thinking of buying one of these this week to compliment my 2 Echo Studios. So it couldn't have come at a better time. Tried the code and it worked, delivery before 1pm tomorrow. 5 monthly payments too so no big hit in the bank account. Super duper! Thanks OP 🏻 (edited)

Does it only work with special audio songs from Amazon music unlimited?
I'm waiting to buy my first studio when I get my trade in voucher

Would be nice if this work with Sonos. Even the 'cheap' Sonos sub is far too expensive.
    Minstadave's avatar
The Sub mini is alot more beefy than this though.
  21. leeharvey2000's avatar
Tempted but I’m still thinking the Studio is a better option for me.

These pair with the studios, it’s not something you buy on it’s own

works with the dot, which I have and like very much
    Toneluck's avatar
Is it worth getting with the dot, I love my dot 5th gen but thought the sub may be overkill?

Hmm. I have an Input puck feeding into a cheap Chinese amp (no extra outputs) and on to passive speakers.

Would this sub work for that, or is the amp going to introduce a delay? Should I just get a better amp and a non-Amazon sub?
