Elf on the shelf book and doll set. Controversial but fun for some. Although ours isn't too naughty, more cheeky.

I agree. This is well and truly a Christmas 'tradition' too far. I remember when I was a kid, Christmas was great simply because it was Christmas. We, as adults, keep trying to add more and more to everything we enjoyed as kids, and all we end up doing is detracting from or confusing what made them special in the first place.

This is very negative thing.
Please, don't spook your kids. Be nice.
God bless
Not a tradition, like a school prom, not a tradition either. Just another way to commercialise anything that moves

Why so much negativity, it’s a bit fun for kids.

You can buy these for £1 in Poundland and so on nearer to Christmas and use stuff around the house for them to play with.

Doesn’t have to cost much just a bit of time and effort and google is full of ideas.

Kids love it,why wouldn’t you want your kids to have fun and enjoy the run up to Christmas.

If you get tired just say it’s broken it’s leg and has to rest

In one sentence:
Christmas is not Halloween.
I believe, Christmas is about all things nice, clean and forgiving.
It is not about ugliness, spying and spooking.
Have a good time and relax.
Be nice to people who deserve it or not.
And above all, don't spook you kids.

Kids don't find it spooky! They believe in the magic. Mine love seeing what silliness the elf has been up to in the night. Just adds to how special the season is. If its spooky you're doing it wrong!

From experience, the experience the elf the shelf quickly goes from being a bit of fun to a whole load of hassle. Added to that kids quickly start comparing what their elves have done and come home from school disappointed. I know families who now have more than one elf.

Probably is a bit of a faff yes but surely it’s worth it for the kids to enjoy.

If my kids were coming home disappointed after comparing stories at school, I would give them a swift reminder how lucky they were to have the elves at all.

Even young children can be taught about empathy towards others who haven’t been as fortunate as them.

?

So after a very busy/stressful day of working on my feet all day, keeping the house clean, caring for and being mum to my 3yo and 7month old where on earth are you supposed to find time to think and act out these elf scenarios???

Thats all before the husband wants attention too.......!!!?

Get your husband to do it and as a reward he gets “attention”

I seriously don’t understand all the hate for this... It’s a bit of fun for when the kids wake up each morning, to go searching to find out where the elf is. It motivates them to get up in the cold mornings, when normally they would want to just stay in bed.

I’m guessing all the Scrooge members out there, just tell their kids that Santa doesn’t exist and don’t even wrap the presents.
They saw you coming, these are usually in pound shops
