These are pretty crappy and excruciatingly slow... probably will end up as paper weight or smashed in pieces after a lot frustration! Save your money and spend a little bit more for a better tablet.

IMO standard Kindle is far better. Faster, less strain on the eyes, longer battery life, no blue light/sleep interference at nights, and less distractions from other apps. But that's only if she reads mostly novels or non-fiction books -- if she's reading a lot of graphic novels/comics or textbooks with diagrams and colours and linked pages then the tablet may be slightly better because of the stronger support for images, colours, and web access, but it will still be a bit poor compared to a more powerful tablet.

Spotify is in the terms - Currys also have a ton of codes, customer service has even stated this (There was a little confusion at first i agree)

Thanks

True, what i meant was don't expect to get a code - you won't. You have to wait 2 weeks then contact customer service who will then take at least another week to reply
Just to note ; I bought the £3 Targus tablet holder a month back and eventually DID get emailed a working and used 6 month Spotify code!

CEX sell them used for £45 - voted hot on price alone.
I've got one that I got from a free dealership visit earlier in the year. It's slow but it's useful for twitter and light surfing while my phone is charging.

Having owned the whole range, I can say the 7 is the least capable. The processor is very slow and leads to a poor experience. The 8 and 10 are better and can probably be had for a little bit more (last year they were selling Fire 8 for around £40-50). My sweet spot is the 8 as it has better battery life than the 10. Good price though.

You get FREE Fire for Kids with the Kids version of the tablet but this can be purchased for around £1.99 a month for some great content, films, shows, books, games etc
Does this have the "special offers" ads like the black Friday Amazon deal at the same price?

I bought hubby the 10 version he was happy till he realised he couldn’t play his football game on it due to having no android App Store on it. I had to play around with it to solve the problem .. he’s now a very happy bunny!

Ideal.

That's about all my kids use it for - games can be hit and miss.

Thanks for that. Going to a birthday party for a 7 year old, so thinking to get this...

Decent price for you tube or iplayer watching just don’t expect a iPad like experience for 30 quid.
Can anyone recommend something similar but faster?

My 2 under 10 kids have 7" fire tablets from a couple of years ago, they use the fire kids on it which costs me a pound or two a month.
But the tablets are sooooo slow, even moving all the apps to an SD card doesn't help much at all.

Not wanting to spend a fortune but want something that is much faster (they only play a few kids games on it- shouldn't slow down this much!)
2017 version gets used all the time on YouTube and kids games (not many as the memory is so small) but YouTube is fast for children Using it.
I am impressed with the price, however the features are lacking, my original 6 year old Hudl can run rings around this!

I haven't bothered looking for alternatives - anyone care to share their findings?
Does anyone know if these could handle watching movies via Beam (virgin trains) without any lag or other issues? TIA

I work for VT onboard, the beam app is not on the amazon kindle store to download and it would be a pain to load up via web app. I would suggest an android based tablet that has access to google play store as a better option for accessing Beam onboard.
People are saying these are slow, and they are, but for the price you won't find anything better (new). I use mine mainly for reading and/or watching netflix in the bath! It doesn't seem to mind the high moisture levels but if it should break I won't cry too much. It's perfect for that and this is a great price.
I would pay a little more and get the HD 8 version which is also on Black Friday deal. Better specs and great tablets.

My son has this and it’s a lot better than the fire tablet he had before

Thinking about this for my little one. My older took over my older kindle fire to watch videos etc. Surely it can't be that bad???
Don’t get the 7. Not for the kids, not for any price. It won’t “do for basic things”. Bad screen, bad battery, slow operation.

The 10 inch version on the other hand is actual value, and actually a nice experience.

Very true. I thought a saving grace may be battery life but even that is pretty terrible ! I have just got the HD fire 10 (new gen) in the sale for £94 and it's excellent

I have a Kindle Paperwhite and a Kobo Clara HD. The Kobo wins hands down for me as an eReader. It's light, it's fast and has a great screen. I love the Pocket integration and it has built in Overdrive. Kindle is great if you buy into the Amazom eco-system and there are some cracking deals with Kindle.
