Can this be used just like an Android table or is everything locked down to Amazon

I don't have amazon prime/music or anything, just wanted it to use MX player to watch movies and tv shows, maybe youtube.

Thanks

Yes it can. There are easy to follow instructions where you can download the playtore which affectively allows you to download android apps. You can also flash the software and allow it to become an android device, but there's more steps to doing that

Can anyone help... I don’t know which to buy as a shared gift for my 2 sons? It’s really just to entertain them with games etc when we go away

I'd get the fire HD 8 the 16GB version. It takes memory cards if you run out of space. The bigger screen will be better for games etc

Excellent find , thanks , been looking for Fire 8 HD 16 GB, this is the cheapest so far.

I have the 7'' from last and the display quality is very poor! Purchased the 8'' about a month ago but tested it... Hopefully its as good as my Nexus 7 2013....

Without adding the google playstore or flashing/rooting to full android, what are the kids games like from the amazon app store?

Also can you make these completely kids safe, as in stop them surfing the internet onto certain websites or watching 18+ youtube videos?

(i heard amazon is losing youtube in January anyway and it will stop working on all these tablets, is that true?)

Thanks

I've got one of these for my 6 year old and the parental controls are first class on them, browser locked down as well things like transactions. The Youtube app he uses has the content filter on it as well.

You can subscribe to Amazon Fire Kids which gives them access to loads of games/apps, books and movies.

Youtube is a website son I’m guessing only the app will go away.

Yeah, think it's £1.99 a month if you have a Prime sub, otherwise it's a little dearer.

I have just been asked a question, do these have adverts on them?

Basic, certainly best to choose the 8, 7 being far too small.

Will retailers match Very? I am thinking of getting one of this and flashing it to be used in a magic mirror build.

If they are for work why not just pay the extra to have the ads removed ?

I don't know how this works. Would they do that there & then? What are the costs?

I think it's £10 per device to remove the ads.

Since my original post I was successfully in getting CS to remove the ads from a fire tablet I'd purchased, just told them it was a gift.
