This was £49.99 on black friday

Just need to check the rest of the site for a sub £3 time machine and you're sorted.

Though, in all honesty they are reduced fairly often so I can see it going down again before Christmas if anyone wants to save a little extra

Do these ones have the stupid amazon adverts on? Anyone know

if they do contact amazon and say it was bought as a gift for a kid and they have to remove the adds for u

have done this 2-3 times and they do it each time not sure if it is the gift part or the kid part that works.
Think so. If you call them up and say unsuitable for your child they remove for free

but 16GB is not alot of room and most the apps you download dont work from a memory card.
you can install google play/app store on it. and dont use the stupid amazon App store.
Have to say my sons uses a 32Gb one with a 32GB memory card. his last was one8GB (ver 2015 i think) was always full so could not put things on a memory card as it 1st has to be downloaded on to the tablet before it moves over.

also remember 1-2Gb of memory are used up by the OS.

it does.

Yup
You can anyways contact amazon Cs and pay the £10 fee to get them stopped (some ppl manage to do ut for free) but that's the trade off really.

IMO For the price with a UK warranty it's a decent tablet. Basic use and all that.

The £5 argos gift card for a £50 spend might still be in effect too.

I have one of these. It's quite capable and has a nice screen, if a little reflective.

16gb is the minimum I would go for. Unfortunately, unlike the newest versions of Android, while you can add an SD card Amazon won't allow you to share the card as core storage for the device. Most apps can move some or most of their files to the SD card but this isn't quite the same.. it also seems that games/apps downloaded from the play store by side loading don't appear to be managed properly and end up looking to the system that they are taking up space they aren't. (Moving a GB of files to the SD card frees up 50MB of storage for example).

The more built in storage you can afford the better.

You can contact them and tell them that the adverts prevent notifications to appear clearly when the device is in standby mode.
Also, that it prevents you from viewing your customised photos as screensavers.

They tend to remove ads for gratis if you explain that the ads reduce the functionality of the device.
Certainly worked for me.

I thought that's what this offer is for.

not convinced, if you read the description of the other punch red fire 8 hd at 79.99 it mentions a from facing camera and this one does not. Plus the 52.99 as usual with Argos is not readily available BUT the 79.99 one is. Even mentions different OS in both adverts
Just my thoughts and may well be wrong

If it supports up to 400GB external microSD card memory, it's the NEW Fire 8, if it supports up to 256GB it's previous gen.
All other specs are the same.

does the previous gen have a front facing camera as it doesn't mention it in advert but does on other advert. Just trying to work out exactly what is for sale. Not that you are likley to get it at 52.99 as its another argos wild goose chase

Previous gen (with the 256GB support) has a front and rear facing camera.
They're regularly appearing items on discount.
Last one I got for £49.99 at a time Argos were doing the £5 voucher for every £50 spent.
Original discounted price was £59.99 and the cashier ran it through the till, gave me the voucher. A minute later refunded it and purchased it again - another £5 voucher issued.
Refunded again and then repurchased. Would have gone another round except I didn't want to tempt fate, so when he got it to £49.99 I said jobbzagoodun.

If you do manage to get one at the £50 mark or less, just don't expect miracles. If you start installing apps on it, it will run like a ladle dragged through a mixture of treacle and mud.

Sideload the 4 apks required to install the Google play store and then install Chrome to browse the tinternet with and something like SD Maid Pro (a memory manager) so that you can easily flush crud from the cache when it gets bogged down.

When paired up with a 200GB Sandisk MicroSD (£35 ish when on offer), works just fine as a media consumption device.

Apparently OOS. However I use my HD8 mainly for reading books from Kindle. I do have a Kobo ereader but don't use it. The HD8 is great at night on dimmest with 'blueshade' filter switched on. I keep mine in Airplane mode and the battery lasts for ages.
Blue are in stock for delivery.

Yep, looks like it's the 2017 previous gen product (apologies for confusion).

The reason for the new gen product is the ability to handle a larger SD card and to work with the docking solution they've now brought out.

Copied and pasted from Amazon's website (but check in case I'm having another dufus moment)
Previous gen (2017 model): amazon.co.uk/Fir…017
  • The next generation of our Fire HD 8, with up to 12 hours of battery life, a vibrant 8" HD display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM and Dolby Audio.
  • 16 or 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for up to 256 GB of expandable storage

New gen 2018 model: amazon.co.uk/Fir…hd8
  • POWERFUL TABLET - Up to 10 hours of battery life, a vibrant 8" HD display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM and Dolby Audio.
  • EXPANDABLE STORAGE - 16 or 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for up to 400 GB of expandable storage.
Edited by: "TopTrump" 6th Dec
it's basically the same tablet underneath it all just option for larger expandable storage but lets be honest 256GB is plenty anyway

Exactly, same internals pretty much (although I've seen quoted up to 12hrs bat life for the previous gen - but there's lots of misquoting going on in today's digital retailing) it's just the card support that differs.

As you say, 256GB is plenty for loads of content. Although 200GB cards offer the best value at the moment.

I have the kindle 8 HD 16GB. So far so good. I only use it for BT Sports and SKY GO. The ads are annoying but for £50 I thought it was good value

The whole thing took less than 5 mins. He'd hand me back the refund paper to scribble a signature and then reprocessed the sale.
Try it the next time they run their £5 off £50 or £10 off £100. Or just say, you've changed your mind on the colour, refund a-go-go, then end up buying the first colour, because you "can't remember what colour she told me to get, let me ring her..."

To be fair, the cashier didn't have to suggest the "trick" but he spared me the time and hassle of going to another branch of Argos.

One of the daftest things Amazon have done is attach their e-ink book reader badge to a computer tablet.. All it has done is cause confusion Paul.
Edited by: "Loathecliff" 6th Dec
I was going to post this same deal this morning - But noticed it was posted a couple weeks ago for £49.99 (hotukdeals.com/dea…524) For some reason Argos have it priced for £79.99? They look identical but that one appears to have better specs for some reason.. Strange.
Are these good enough for Skype calls?
Does this have access to the youtube app on the device or in the playstore with out sideloading etc, as i remember google and amazon going tit for tat and one of them removed youtube on the firesticks, would make an ok little video streamer for my youngest if it does.
make sure you like tab already because once u buy you cant return it to argos. i ll rather buy it on amazon so u have right to return.
