This was £49.99 on black friday

Just need to check the rest of the site for a sub £3 time machine and you're sorted.

Though, in all honesty they are reduced fairly often so I can see it going down again before Christmas if anyone wants to save a little extra

Do these ones have the stupid amazon adverts on? Anyone know

if they do contact amazon and say it was bought as a gift for a kid and they have to remove the adds for u

have done this 2-3 times and they do it each time not sure if it is the gift part or the kid part that works.
Think so. If you call them up and say unsuitable for your child they remove for free

Is the playback on Sky Go for live broadcasts smooth enough?. (tried it on my Honor 6x a while back and jerk city...through a decent wifi connection).

thanks

Basic use and all that. The £5 argos gift card for a £50 spend might still be in effect too.

£5 gift card expired yesterday.

I got mine removed out of goodwill, but having seen the Amazon Kids interface/overlay (which I have to say, is excellent), I don’t think it shows adverts on a child profile.

If it works as a reason then that’s great, I’m just a little surprised and didn’t want to try that as my negotiating strategy

The tablet itself is a really nice step up from the Fire 7. I’m not going to install play services on mine as I’m convinced that’s what ground my slow 7 down to a crawl, been OK just with APK files so far with only two exceptions/problems.

All you have to do is ask them some contrived techie question before you hand over the money. Their eyes will gloss over and you simply state, well how can I purchase this if you can't tell me it does xy or z?
Can I bring it back in the event it doesn't work?

Yes sir, three bags full sir...

I've NEVER tried NETFLIX on my Amazon Fire HD before, but I have tried NETFLIX on an Android Box I have, and have never had any problems either streaming stuff's, saving stuff's, etc etc etc upon it ...

So they way I see it, IF you're able to do your NETFLIX on your Amazon Tablet, then I don't see as to why (in principle), that that shouldn't work flawless there as well?.

There's a MASSIVE difference between the Fire HD 7, and Fire HD 8 ...

(Apart from the obvious 1 inch difference between the 7 and 8).

The Fire HD 7 has 1GB RAM, whereas the Fire HD 8 on the other hand has 1.5GB RAM instead.

The 0.5GB RAM difference between the 2 Fire Device's may not sound like much? (but for your potential 'usage scenario' of Google Play Store Service's - the 0.5GB RAM difference is actually quite a significant difference still?, lol).

The Fire HD 8 is actually quite significantly different in everyyyy way, in relation to it's 7 inch equivalent ...

My sentiments exactly!, as I too had similar issues, on account of buying my Amazing Fire Tablet 'elsewhere' ... :-(

But, got it sorted in the end. :-)

Given they have the same CPU and the 7 has a lower resolution screen, unless Google Play Services' RAM usage was over 512mb, would there be that much of a discernable difference? Clearly the extra 512 gives more space/room for manouvre but if it's not being used, I'm a little unsure. That said I've seen comparison videos and the 8 is noticably quicker at bootup, but I don't know how much RAM is used at bootup.

Granted the 8 is a better device all around (if I could figure out how to turn off the pseudo surround sound out of the 3.5mm jack it'd be a winner).

This is the sort of price that old skool stuff's should be going for here:

He'd hand me back the refund paper to scribble a signature and then reprocessed the sale.Try it the next time they run their £5 off £50 or £10 off £100. Or just say, you've changed your mind on the colour, refund a-go-go, then end up buying the first colour, because you "can't remember what colour she told me to get, let me ring her..."To be fair, the cashier didn't have to suggest the "trick" but he spared me the time and hassle of going to another branch of Argos.

Fair enough, lol.

The Fire HD 8 has stronger graphics/a better screen, etc?, so will definitely utilise any/all RAM 'extras', if/where available as it were ...

(So yeh, the extra RAM will be maximized, or whatever?). :-)

And with it the additional speed ratio, etc etc etc ...

That's how I see it anyway?, eg. there's more stories out there saying the Fire HD 7 is slowwwwwww, than that of not?.

And in a similar vain, there's more stories out there saying that the Fire HD 8 is consisterably faster, than that of not too, etc?.

Take your pick basically ... lol.
These are painfully slow if you use more than a couple of apps

Yes you can, by side-loading those App's onto the Tablet via browser downloaded APK files ...

Other than that, it has it's own App Store anyway (so that's always an option?). :-)

So, by your indirect reasoning/insinuation, I suppose that paying upwards of £300+ for an iPad with only 2GB of RAM is rather a way better alternative then, I take it?.

Is this suitable for reading books or would a kindle be better?

Depends on your own preference I guess. I have the fire 8 and mainly use it for reading comics / graphic novels. I did start using it for e-books but soon switched to a proper kindle for those.
We put a stock android lsuncer on ours and the play store it wss basically an android tablet and worked well for our little guy. Until the screen smashed.
