Get it from argos!
This is an amazon product that amazon have only price matched because its cheaper elsewhere.
If you're looking for an Echo Show then these are a great cheap alternative. Amazon do a Show stand but you don't need it, just get any case and swipe down to choose show mode and it will turn into an echo show with a much larger screen. The only difference is the sound quality on these isn't as good, though it can be paired with a speaker.

Can you download Google apps on this from play store, and use Internet?

Yes. You need to sideload the Google Play Store but then installing pretty much anything is fine. Lots of explanations on how to do so online

It's not lightning fast, but is significantly better than the 7" version. Basically, as you go up the sizes, the processor gets better, and also more RAM. But they are budget devices optimised for getting you to view content from Amazon.

3% cash back from Topcashback or Quidco.
I've got a few of these. Bought foam cases with integral stands off eBay for about a fiver to make them quite kid-proof. Kids love them. My own I use almost exclusively for ebooks. I got one for my eldest daughter for her to watch videos etc as she does some long flights and this has great battery life and saves her phone battery. At this price it's a total steal.

Would you recommend getting the 16Gb and installing an SD card or buying the 32Gb model instead? It's for watching cartoons on the car mostly.

It depends, if you like to install a lot of apps then go for the 32gb, else if you don't then get a 16gb.

My son has the 16GB, and a memory card with music and films on - use something like VLC, and it's absolutely fine.

16gb is fine for this with a memory card in if you're just using it casually. Unlike some Android tablets, the Fire HD lets you save pretty much anything, apps, tv, books etc, to the memory card instead
Oooo blue or yellow, decisions decisions

It takes 6hrs to charge from Amazon's technical details enough to put me off this until they bring out a new tablet with acceptable charging time
These are what I got

By default they're not available (no Gmail or other google stuff, either) but you can fairly easily sideload them and they run fine

Can someone please offer some advice.
I am wanting a tablet for an elderly relative to use for basic online surfing.
However, the house in question does not have internet.
Can you put a sim card in to this tablet to allow it go online?

Or if not, could anyone recommend something similar?

Thank you

The easiest way to add wifi to a home without a broadband contract is to get a mini wifi box that converts a sim to a wifi signal. You can use most modern android and iphones as a hot spot, too, but it tends to drain their battery and doesn't sound like the right option here. 3 and EE both do a good mifi unitl with either contract or, from 3 at least, monthly 30 day contract for the data.

edit: EE do too, shop.ee.co.uk/don…ils

Agreed with pb-live on the above. A "mi-fi" box (essentially a wi-fi router with a slot to put a sim card in) can be found for under £40, and you can get a sim card from somewhere like Smarty that gives you 30Gb internet for £10 a month (or £20 for unlimited) with no long contract costs.

Netflix is available. Amazon and Google are sorting out some differences, so YouTube is now available on Fire TV devices - can't remember if it's been sorted for tablets yet.

Would this trick work on a firestick?
can you install ytube on this easily through the app store or is it a long way of doing it? also how are these to use, is there much lag or is it decent enough?
I ordered the Kids edition 8 days ago for £100 (it's now £70), what are my chances of a refund?

Will I have to return and buy a new one?
Anyone sideloaded Xcloud with any success?

I find it very laggy and use only to play YouTube, Netflix or Prime movies with added Bluetooth speaker, browsing experience is not very good, nowhere near as good as on my mid range redmi note 8 pro. Not to say it's a bad tablet at this price - it's well made, it works and gets regular firmware updates but it's no longer good enough.
Are these the same ones that were on offer for 30 at Xmas :/
