Removes everything amazon - lockscreen ads, launcher and adds the play store and google apps. Basically a stock android tablet when all said and done.
Are these much better than the 7?
Ive got the 7 and it's slower than a week in the jail. Only really use it as an e-reader now.

It's extremely confusing, I agree - but the terms state -Purchase of qualifying device required: Any laptop, video game, games console, tablet, smart TV, smart home, smart watch. Plus any audio product above £49.

Is this the latest?

Funny how people wont touch a phone with onlu 3GB Ram nowadays - this has 1.5gb and seems pretty decent., My son uses one a lot - tempted to get another at this price
The 32gb is on offer too

I've got one. No complaints. I also followed a guide to put the Google Play Store on it. Much more user friendly now.

Firstly I have to say that what the Fire 8 does, it does very well
When I checked on Wednesday Currys didn't have any 2019 fire hd8 on website. So ordered from Amazon. Had Currys voucher. Urggggh
10” on offer too. So tempted. Especially it can be modded or sideloaded.

I'd purchased a Fire 8 back in 2017 during an Argos 'spend over £50, get £5 off voucher' promo.
At the time it was on sale for £54.99.
Cashier suggested I return it there and then, processing the refund whilst allowing me to keep the voucher. He ran it through 3 times - three vouchers and asked me if I wanted to go through it again. I thought, 'you know what, let's not tempt fate' and settled at getting £15 off the promo price.

Re Google Play, I had watched this youtube instructional video (now content removed) and successfully installed it. Perhaps with the newer tablets, Amazon have seen to it that APK's can't be sideloaded.

You don't. You just call Amashun using the advice in the link I posted.
It's getting in the way of my user experience - or something like that. Have a read.

Having had both, yes, although it's still as slow as a wet week in Skegness. Still it's about what you'd expect for £45.
Currys - PC World: Hello, welcome to our live chat service. Is there anything we can help you with?

You: Hello does the Fire HD 8 come with Free 6 month Spotify Premium?

Lawrence: Hi there
Lawrence: yes it does for new customers

What you talking about? Its not that slow. I'd say it's worth around 60 so at 45 its great.
How is battery life on this?

I don't know maybe because I've got some old fire 8 tablets!

Update... Had a look on YouTube and it seems pretty easy to install play store.

The previous poster asked, and therefore I'm talking from direct experience of owning a Fire 7 and now a Fire HD 8. The 8 is better, but it's an iterative change. £60, £45 or otherwise, it's a cheap tablet and hence the warning not to expect miracles.

I'm about to go and buy another one tomorrow seeing as my youngest has commandeered mine, but I'm more than aware of its shortcomings. I'm happy to use it as a Kindle and for Sky Go/Virgin TV Go when I can't get to the telly for the football. I wouldn't use it for web browsing or email.

Each to their own
Battery on 7 is so poor
Even in standby it drains so quick

Hoping this is improved
Can anyone confirm that the tool mentioned by @Personator1234 also works for this model?

Anyone know if you can install Zwift on this please?

The only clear way is to try and install an APK file, but there are reports on the web suggesting that doesn't work on this device (for the purpose of installing Zwift).

I had a look this morning but I'd already been on the turbo so not fussed about trying it myself.

Strava's Devs suggest that if the app is available on the play store then it should run (so I'm working on the assumption that it does a check against spec requirements). The main Zwift app is not available on the play store on my fire HD8. The companion app is but that obviously doesn't need as much spec to run (I use an old iPhone 6s for the companion app, to get a heart rate reading from an apple watch).

-------

I used the tool mentioned further up, straight forward enough to use. Overnight however it seems to have reverted to the stock launcher when you tap the middle button.
