8” HD display

Whether you're tapping away with the latest game, streaming a show on the ride home or unwinding at home with an e-book, the AmazonFire Tablet has an 8” HD Ready display that makes everything look great.

Long battery life keeps you going

With a battery life that lasts up to 10 hours, you've got more than enough time to use your AmazonFire HD 8 Tablet for the whole day. So whether you're replying to emails or scrolling through your socials, you won't have to worry about losing power just as you're pressing send.

Alexa makes life easier

“Alexa, start my chill-out playlist”. Voice commands like this will make all your tablet activities a little bit easier, thanks to Amazon's excellent voice assistant Alexa. Alexa gives you hands-free access to your music, games and apps, as well as weather info, your daily calendar and more.

Take photos

The Fire HD 8 has both a front and rear camera, so not only can you snap that lovely sunset or shoot a Full HD video, you can show how chuffed you are with a perfect selfie too. There's 16 GB of storage for all your photos and files, and if that's not enough you can expand the storage up to 400 GB with a handy microSD card.

Couple of things:

1# 16GB is a little low now days even for kids, so you need an SD card
2# Install Amazon Fire Toolbox V6 on your PC to remove all the amazon bloatware and battery zapping ads
3# Consider paying more for a more powerful tablet, i just had to upgrade my kids from this FireHD 8 to a new tablet as game like Roblox were unplayable! These are good for media/ebooks/web browsing only i would say now

‘HD ready’. Like buying a tv in 2012.

The one I ordered for £26.99 via Amazon's upgrade program came through today, nice little tablet, very barebones packaging which is also good if you're not bothered about flashy boxes. Tonnes of bloatware and subscriptions shoved on the screen as you set it up which is expected but overall happy with it for the kids.

What is the upgrade program?

Just for those who own previous gen Amazon Fire tablets?

Looking to get the Fire HD 10 or Kids HD 10 for my daughter. Given they have a big discount on kids unlimited right now, doesn't matter which is on offer first. But do have a tablet to trade in if the upgrade program isn't just for old Fire tablets.

Also, if you upgraded a kids tablet, I presume you didn't get a year of kids unlimited with it?

Expecting mine from Amazon this week. @Sloman what tablet did you get instead? Am wondering whether to accept delivery of mine or try an alternative instead.

What alternatives are out there for around £40 - £50? I don't have an iphone (or any smartphone) so thought the Fire HD8 could be used to Skype people + read books + light surfing etc - not into many games as get motion sickness with them, unless there is a decent Scrabble available now

Great info, thanks
What new tablet did you upgrade to if you don't mind me asking?
Also, Is hd 10 any better than this considering it's about £100 more. Main usage is to browse and watch movies on Netflix/prime. Thanks

I've been using a 3 year old 7" Fire tablet and even web browsing it feels unusable, so slow to load pages. The magazine app i have works well enough though. I'll look into that toolbox so thanks for that.

Hoping the Kids unlimited offer is still on then Or they do an offer on the Kids 10.

Looking back the 10 kids has gone down to ~£130 last November. Which isnt too bad with the year sub, case and 2 year breakage warranty.

Yes, but still £100 discounted. This one is not great but almost acceptable at this price.
Great price highly recommend this tablet for this money!
Can somebody do me a favour? If you have one of these, can you check if Runescape 3 beta works on it?
thanks @r_holmes22 - just looking at their forum now to see what sort of things I will be able to do on it without Prime eg. free apps available, tv shows etc

Settee, I have also been using the old 7 model which had got very slow and frustrating as hell. I was lucky enough to get this HD 8 a couple of weeks ago for the £26 offer. The new tablet is streets better than the old 7 and I'm delighted with it. I sideloaded Google Play etc which means it now runs with all the Android Apps - Gmail, Google Photos, Drive etc. Play Store etc

I went on live chat but they said I wasn't eligible but I got this in an email a couple of days later so very happy.

Noice! One other thing to keep in mind is that part of the agreement using a reduced kindle is that Amazon force ads for apps and such on the lock screen of your kindle. You can pay Amazon £10 to remove them after purchase if you feel strongly about not seeing them.

Forgot all about this on my Kindle 7 as those ads eventually went away but I'm not so bothered if they are there.

The problem with #2, as I've found on two different tablets is that when it works it's great, but it can be a game of cat and mouse. Any FireOS update seems to revert the launcher to stock, and I've got a suspicion yesterday's occurrence happened due to something innocuous like it hitting low power mode at 20% charge.

The play framework also delivers a performance hit though that's probably to be expected.

Agree with #3
Thank you!
