Yeah, not sure what planet such people are from or what they expect for a budget tablet. Or maybe they've never used one, or maybe they had a duff one or an out-of-date OS. I've been using it for the past day (admittedly not long but I've been hammering it, loading apps and running tests) and can't really fault it for the price.

Bad points so far: screen protectors and cases to fit are pricey if ordered from Amazon (not sure what 3rd party ones fit yet, and the case isn't a problem with this particular deal). The charging port is located on the edge (as usual) but the edge is curved meaning it's fiddly getting the thing on charge (and some cables just don't seem to want to fit). The screen is a little small (since they've changed the aspect ratio to make them wider but shorter). I can live with all of this, though. Especially for the 39 GBP I paid (not for the kids version, just the normal one).

The problem I have with Amazon Fire tablets is the lack of access to Google Play. There are a number of specific apps on there that I'd want my 3 year old to get access to in the future. They simply aren't on Amazon!

.....would love to be mistaken mind you (but I doubt it).

Deer Hunter 2015 and what else?
Its actually a maths app that I have found useful for helping my daughter with her maths at school (lack of confidence and knowledge). They're going to be bringing out an app for younger children that would help me teach my younger son.

They put their apps on apple, and google play.

It is actually possible to get it on there see Link. I haven't tried it myself but it looks fairly straightforward and no issues regarding updates.
Was going to get my little boy the hudl 2 for Xmas but can't get hold of it anywhere now but ebay. Seriously considering ordering this now but I really need to load all our apps and things from Google play. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks
with these fires or Hudl's can you get minecraft on them? any problems playing you tube and simple games and stuff on them? seem very cheap
it says this on the site

No more worrying about storage space
Keep your child’s photos, movies, games and apps with you using a microSD card slot that lets you expand your tablet’s storage by up to 128GB. Plus, enjoy free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with your Fire device.

You think that's true that you can install apps to sd card? If not that 8gb storage isn't going to be much good.
Was waiting until black Friday to get this for my daughter for Xmas. Anyone think they will go lower? Or will Amazon refund if they drop?
On a side note Hudl2 are £180+ on eBay!!!
thanks i ordered 2 for my sons earlier this month at £99 each, just rang em up and they refunded me £40

Yes apps can be set to install on the SD card by default (where possible). I installed a bunch of apps on mine (about 30) and all of them went straight to the card. Much less hassle than 'vanilla' Android where you have to install and then move (and then keep on moving when apps get updated - grrr!).

That's cool. Its a real bonus over standard android.
Nice spot, I was holding out for Black Friday, but figure this will not go for much less than that.
Hope my kid enjoys it.
2 year "breakage" warrenty swung it for me, my older son has broken too many items to count, so was dubious about getting a tablet.
Tempting but gonna wait for Black Friday. Hoping for sub £70
Thanks to the OP. I'd bought 2 last week for my boys and Amazon have just refunded me £20 per tablet £40 more in the Santa pot
One reviewer in Amazon is saying that the tablet is useless if you are out and about as it works only with a WIFI...
Decisions decisions.. is it worth? Will the price drop in BF deals...................
I was also waiting for black friday, but i just brought it. another present sorted. Maybe amazon will refund the difference is it does drop further
Thinking of getting one for my little lad for Xmas and spoke to Amazon live chat about the warranty. Basically any damage (including water) is covered and they'll just swap it for a new one. The only thing they don't cover is stolen/lost tablets.

I think that's exceptional customer service personally. I was going to buy one for £100 so to see it at £80... Bargain!
It looks like a great deal...the only thing that concerns me is that after a year you have to pay for the Kids unlimited. If you have not paid in and subscribed to "Prime" its going to be £7.99 a month for 2 kids.

Like pretty much every tablet on the market then?
Need a tablet for 4 year old daughter. Will this be any good? She plays games on my Google tablet at the moment running Android.
Like the look of this
Hi, Is it possible to install the VLC app and play avi files on this tablet?

Yes it is.
Outside of the kids walled garden aspect, you can use it as a normal fire tablet.

So you can choose to install apps from "unknown sources".
Does anyone have any idea how long this deal is going to last?
Also, anyone know if it's worth the extra £20 for the HD version?

Personally would rather have an extra inch. That's what the Mrs tells me anyway.

Thanks for the reply
Same price in argos too. Plus you can get a £5 voucher back
Is the hd any better it has a smaller screen

I think the downside with the HD version is that it's limited to 8gb whereas the 7" has a slot for an external card which, from reading reviews, is an essential.
just been reading the t&c and it says
" we will, at our option, to the extent permitted by law, either (i) repair the Device using either new or refurbished parts, (ii) replace the Device with a new or refurbished Device that is equivalent to the Device that is to be replaced, or (iii) refund to you all or part of the purchase price of the Device"
it the last bit i dont like the bit that say refund part of the purchase price, so what do you get in 18-20 months ?????
also,
"This limited warranty applies only to hardware components of the Device that are not subject to fire or other external causes"
so if it means fire does it also mean water as other external causes , if it does the photo on the advert on amazon is misleading...

so you looked at my comments ? i was ready to order one for my daughter until i looked into what the warranty says in the small print. if i have it wrong i apologise, but to me they can't be clear enough about what they wont pay out for.
I asked them yesterday when the promo was ending and they said 'today' so I quickly ordered, and checked this morning and the price is back up to £99.99
