Cold because of O2 being the most un helpful C.S for unlocking this phone = O2 are rubbish

would Amazon unlock it and if so how much?

I contact amazon and they said, amazon fire phone purchased after 1st April 2015 can be unlocked by them. So this will be a good deal if it can be unlocked for free by amazon. Just have a chat with them first to confirm this before made any purchases. With 64gb and unlimited cloud storage to store photos that capture using this phone, to me it's a good deal.

I think you can't install many Google apps on it? You can't even side load maps and Gmail...

Still great phone for people who want a dumber smart phone compared with the equivalent £99 phone

Amazon told me that it's nothing to do with them unlocking the phone it's 02 ! And 02 won't unlock until you have had a sim in for 12 month

cold

You can install the Play store on it and install anything sideloaded as well so some of you are just talking rubbish. Build quality is superb, I have giffgaff anyway so no problems with sim on mine. A great price for this phone. There is even an apk site for fire.

£99 for a 64gb smartphone, how is this cold?

So it's hard to unlock, get over it

so what cant I do on this that I can do on an android phone .

Is that version os number dependant?

It's no trouble getting it unlocked. Spoke to a rep via chat and said it can be unlocked for any SIM free of charge. Just need to contact them once you've received it and they will provide the unlock code.

OP thanks for posting seriously considering the 64gb as on giff gaff. Any one got a fire phone that can advise on the battery life please?

brought 2 of these last time they were on offer. think we kept them no longer than two weeks. battery life is ok. yes you can install play store but it doesn't work anywhere near as well as a standard android phone. personally I would advise against getting one.

Sorry, I know how it's done just wondering how relative and up to date any technique to do it was from someone who'd done it.

I actually prefer using the Amazon app store but have installed the Play store and it works as it should. I installed what I wanted and removed it though to avoid any update issues. I mainly use Spotify and Plex so its not an issue for me.

Hi All, Can I just use this as a music player? Don't want a contract, sim etc.....just wanna use it for music in the gym with the added bonus of wifi access and apps, so that I can load up decent music player apps like Neutron MP.....or should I get some like the Honor Holly etc....Advice would be helpful :O)

really? what do you do on yours?

heat added. Snapdragon 800 is goooood

I got one last time it was £99 and I'm quiet impressed. I have a O2 SIMO and put the SIM in until it registered on my O2 account (Fire phone as current device). Then I filled in the online form and got the unlock code that day. Currently using it with the EE 100Gb SIM and watch TV on it and setup as WiFi hotspot for two laptops. The battery is a lot better than my Nexus 5. Lots of phone for little money.

Amazon are doing an update shortly based on Android lollipop which will make most of the android apps compatible.. engadget.com/201…ev/

Yes, here's hoping, too. However, the preview is only for the tablets, for now. Fingers crossed.

How does this compare to nexus 4 or 5 and is there android lollipop roms? My son has broke my nexus 4 today :-(

If you look at the technical details on the phones page it states this

Amazon Fire phone is locked to O2, which means it will only work with an O2 SIM card. For information regarding unlocking Fire phone, please contact O2 on 0344 8090202 or Amazon CS at amazon.co.uk/con…-us. Amazon Fire phone is only available for purchase by customers living in the UK.

I've been assured Amazon will unlock my phone free of charge upon requesting it. This may mean they contact O2 but Amazon will be providing me with the code.

This would be perfect for you. i Bought one to see what its like, i need a smaller phone to replace my Note 3.

sure I read it only works on O2 as in not even GiffGaff or Tesco??

I have gone for one, a friend has one and from what I have seen its blooming good plus I am one of the few who like the Amazon ecosystem.. and my Virgin contract is up next month so have no probs moving network.

Got to vote hot for the price but personally it's too restrictive a device for me to consider it.
