Something unsettling about “Fire” being a product of “Amazon”.
I wonder if they hit £25 next week? Surely if retailers are selling that at £30 Amazon can do one better with their own product!
stevenprior122/11/2019 08:19

No, none what so ever.

Yes there is...! The 4k stick is a lot better performance wise!

Better processor:

“By comparison, the Fire TV Stick 4K has a 1.7GHz processor that’s 80-percent faster than the non-4K version.

For 4K HDR TV owners, the Fire TV Stick 4K also has the advantage of supporting both Dolby Vision and HDR10+.”

Got the 4K version delivered last night as an upgrade from my old Chromecast.

10 minutes to set up (longest part was removing battery cover from remote control) and loaded on Kodi and a few streaming apps.

Very snappy, was deliberately switching programs over and over trying to crash it and couldn't, very impressed for the price.

Sorry my bad. Yes the 4k has the 1.7ghz and the none 4k has only the 1.3ghz.
Ok thanks all, I will pay the extra for the faster processor.
Thanks Op, ordered. 🏻

Take it you don't own Both? The 4k is very fast unlike the standard stick that makes the os run like a snail after you open a few apps. It doesn't matter if someone would ever use 4k as it's still a higher spec device and still worth getting even to use on a 720p or 1080p set.
Anyone tried streaming Plex 4k experience any issues ???
Does anyone know if the Fire Stick (Non 4k) is still being manufactured?

Going forward it begins to look like Ford continuing to manufacture the Model T to ensure that they have basic and premium products available.

Nice to see the device being discounted outside of Amazon retail.

Well sorry but I do have both but one is on the bedroom the the wife and I don't really use it as I have a shield that I use. I have just went up to use it there and it's not that much slower at all. The 1st gen was really slow. The difference between the new fire 4k and none 4k of 0.4ghz difference.
I bought the 4K one from Argos today for my mum. I wasn't able to click and reserve. They made me pay and collect instead. They must have taken off click and reserve for black Friday.

The 1st gen firestick is not in production but the others are.
Payed for my first fire stick wow

Tons of variables to this. If you know what you are doing then yes. If you don’t, yes / no

Just a few things off the bat...

Wi-if connection 2.4 / 5 don’t know if these fire sticks have Ethernet, haven’t checked)

CPU of the PC you are streaming from (Wi-fi or Ethernet)

Movie bitrates

Correct PLEX settings

Many more especially if you want your 4K movies to actually play at 4K and nothing lower like me with my PLEX

Yes. It's a faster processor. I have the 4k and my parents have the old one and there is a big difference. We don't have 4k TV's so it's not just the resolution.
Is it free to watch in netflix with this??

No you still need the separate subscription. This just allows you to access the app

Is there a new version of the standard? I have the 2016 model so I can only judge that one.
Will the 4k version work ok using power from the tv USB port? I have the gen 1 firestick that works fine even though I see a message stating USB device not supported.

Yes 2017, you have the 1st gen which is very slow compared to the new ones.

For Kodi it doesn't need any jailbreaking as such. Just enable apps from unknown sources in developer options and download the APK. Running Leia very smooth.
