and do you have a time machine to back in time

good tablet. just put an android ROM on it

are these good enough for the kids to play app games, watch you tube etc or worth paying more?

Yes good for kids

My trusted Kobo's battery life is rapidly deteriorating. Is this a worthy replacement? I can use Calibre to convert from ePub if necessary. Thanks.

I think you are reading too much into a comparison picture! I bought one each for my two children Christmas 2015 for this price as it was a good deal then and still is. The tablets are still going strong after 15 months which is more than can be said for the hudl they had before and useless usb charging port that lasts about 6 months

Nice size for carrying around. Good value too...

Ooh...these are awesome last time i got them. I got the 16GB but eve the 8GB is sufficient for basic use. It works great as a daily tablet and especially in the Kitchen to play songs, watch videos and stream from Prime if you have subscribed to it.

Great little tablet. Very HOT for the price.

Great for the gym too

"Stunning display" lol, i guess for this price it is good enough

Great for kids.

I've been using one for the last month while I am away with work, paid £35 and its brilliant for the money.

Yeh there's a bit of lag when opening apps but it's fine for browsing, facebook and watching videos.

I haven't played any games on it but read some online reviews and apparently its more than capable for the standard stuff.

I'll be giving it to my 2 year old to use when I get home as the Amazon kids mode is really good, there's a free and paid for version.

Worth remembering that a lot of apps are not available through the amazon app store, but are usually easy to install manually.

Just google the name of the app and apk

Then download and run the apk file.

Was going to buy this for reading manga, I think the 8GB model should be fine

bit of a dumb response...if for whatever reason you missed the deal last time around but are now in the market for the item then its obviously still a good deal.

Do you realise that how many times it has been the lowest price of £29.99 in the last 2 years - ONCE!!!!

And if you are smart and wanna wait for that to come again, very well, you can wait while the others who are going to use it can get it for the next lowest price of £34.99 which is absolutely great and is a perfect price for this tablet. And don't forget that you get this specifications for the tablet only because it is hugely subsidised

so if you require a tablet now, then explain how would pay the lower price. answer is you can't. So if your happy to pay this price, then it's a deal for you. only mug is the one who waits too long and never gets anything.

The answer is simple. Don't buy it as it was lower before so retailers will have to lower the price at some point.

actually NO they won't. Products like Amazon can only be sold at the price that Amazon tell them to sell at.

how easy is it to install the Google Play app (can see a step by step guide where have to install apk files etc) and from there does Google+ perform in the way it usually would on android for backups and other associated account functions?

Says who? Once retailers buy their products from wholesalers and manufacturers they can sell them at any price they want, throw them in the river if they wanted. It's no longer Amazon's responsibility. They've already got their money.

in this case, Amazon says so. The retailers agree to the terms under which they can sell there products. If they don't follow the terms, they longer get supplied with the products. It's that simple. Apple, Sky and many other manufacturer's do the same.

Cheers, I didn't realise that was possible without rooting.

Just done it!

Can you chromecast with this? Thanks

Not the case at all if it's part of a legally binding contract; which with Amazon, it certainly will be.

There will not be a contract that states 'you will buy our product but you must ALSO sell it at the price we tell you to.

* I recommend ticking the box that makes these a gift, so they don't come linked to your Amazon account, as there's reports on Amazon of people receiving one that was linked to someone else's account and having all their info on it.*

I have one of these, these are the pros and cons IMO:
Pros:
- extremely low price, I can't see how anyone could find the same functionality in a new tablet for less
- can add Play Store A̶P̶I̶s̶ APKs and have Amazon stuff as well
- good for trying out to see if a tablet is for you, first-time tech users, and if you are on a budget. Also good as a secondary tablet or spare, I have one that I just keep for anyone to use as a music player in the kitchen, with no-one's personal stuff on. If you take one of these out with you, it sounds weird but it's a relief knowing you don't have a £400 piece of kit on you X)
- good for the elderly if they are not good with tech and don't want to make a big financial commitment
- really amazing what you get for £34, I use Youtube, Spotify, TuneIn (radio), Evernote (note taking/organisation), Kindle reader, iPlayer Radio, iPlayer tv, Netflix (for subscribers) and obviously internet browsing, all for that price.
- expandable with an SD card
- I find the size ideal for taking with me on a trip etc. as it fits in my handbag easily

Cons:
- screen resolution is not great, fine for watching films, shows up when reading so sometimes you have to zoom in. Usable but definitely not crisp.
- no GPS, so Google Maps not that accurate, but then most people have that on their phones anyway
- as you are bypassing Amazon's OS, you don't know when they might pull the plug on that
- poor camera (ditto re:phone)

Just to make something clear, like most tablets this tablet does not have 4G, it is wifi-only.

But what if we use the time machine to go forward and buy it when it's even more cheaper?

Thanks OP, have just ordered one to take away at Easter as my kindle fire battery is not as good as it was.

when you subscribe to a thread and keep getting notifications of comments which turn out to be nonsense

That for me is the tablet's big problem. The display is skewed. If peeps can't spot this on general photos, just put a pic of a circle on there. See it turn into an oval. Wish this would be addressed with some update from Amazon.

Screw that. I'd go back and visit Mr van Gogh and other makers of current art 'masterpieces'. Buy a stack of their paintings at rock bottom. Come back and 'discover' these new pieces.

Haylhoo

Well depends on the 9 yr old. I noticed it straight away, I looked on the Amazon reviews and saw one person mention it. So maybe most people don't notice.
