Amazon fire TV 4K £65.00 Tesco instore

Almost bought one of these direct from Amazon for £79.99, but on the spur of the moment decided to check out my local Tesco Superstore.

Not sure if this price is nationwide but it had one of those white price labels on the shelf (Not a yellow offer one)

Is it the actual 4K version? Does it have the microSD slot at the back?

Yes, it is - judging by the OP's photo. The 2nd Gen had orange boxes

Ah - I missed that! Thanks Hot from me!

Does not have hdmi 2.0 port so not 4k just marketing gimmick . No hevc codec either. Better buy nvidia shield Android TV for, true 4k if you have 4k ultra HD TV and use it watch Netflix 4k content

so you are saying this Fire TV Box cannot output true 4K resolution to a compatible 4K TV?

From Amazon website ...

All-new Amazon Fire TV, now 4K Ultra HD compatible. Enjoy movies and TV episodes in stunning 4K Ultra HD with your compatible 4K UHD TV.

Not true. It just means it cannot output 4K above a certain frame rate for example it cannot achieve 60fps which you would require for 4K gaming. Movies etc are 30fps or less.

the official 4k spec sheeton amazon site say its supports H.265 video coding and further down it says max resoloution 4K at 30fps which is absolutely fine if you have a HDMI on 4K tv that rsupports HEVC/H.265

Exactly^ perfectly fine for 4K YouTube and Amazon movies etc. doesn't need fancy HDMI 2.0+ ports.

It can output 4K at a maximum output of 30fps.

It cannot output 4K at 60fps, or in HDR (High Dynamic Range), it is also not HDCP compliant

It does hence why your Tv needs HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. I think you are mistaking the FTV 1st Gen which does not have the word "4K" in the description. It will play Netflix and Prime in 4K @30fps but that's about it.
Shield is not really totally true 4K either "Nvidia Shield is at a constant 4K, with the app available resolution to apps being 1080p, upscaled to 4K, and videos rendered at 4k." with the FTV2 the output is 1080p GUI and only changes to 4K for those "approved apps" ie Prime/Netflix for other apps devs only 1080p output is available. Though we are comparing two products which have a 100% price difference between them. I have both devices along with a stick and old MXs box.

It is HDCP compliant. Would be very ironic if it wasn't since Prime requires HDCP for 4K playback.

Or don't buy the shield since nvidia have terrible customer service and terrible build quality.

bought the shield was totally gutted would not output 4k to my top of the range 4k tv... not sure if it was a bad unit but i could not go above 720p tried loads of stuff to get it working... the 6.0 update on shield has caused loads of problems... im going to return it...
so if the amazon firetv works i think that counts for something at this price
4K's sake the keyboard warriors are out in force on this thread.

My telly doesn't have 4 ks so its a hot deal for me. Heat added.

yep the 4K version. All set up. even managed to get it to stream from my NAS.
cigbunt

bought the shield

Oh man, I feel for you.

Other comments are right though, this only does 4K at a maximum of 30fps. Doesn't make it any less of a deal, since it's cheaper than buying it directly from Amazon.

Nvidia has much better games and gpu, so more future proof and gamer friendly. It can be used like xbox or playstation while games on Amazon are pathetic. Only downside I see is Nvidia one is more expensive,
come on Amazon, price match

UK Amazon already had them for £65 over Easter weekend. Possibly this is where the Tesco deal come from also and they've just forgot to raise back up maybe.

I work at tesco and confirm they were on sale over the Easter holiday for £64.99. Now they are back at £79.99. we don't control the prices store to store so it should be scanning £79.99 across all stores. If you do find one priced at £64.99 and it scans at £79.99 pay for it; take your receipt to customer service for a refund and a coupon. - Ryan
i called up my local store and the guy on the phone confirmed the price at £65 but no stock till friday...

most big stores should be getting a delivery
i bought one also for my front room to escape sky...
Got two last night, just make sure to ring up and do a check on stock and price!
Picked this up for £65 in Tesco Bursledon - Thanks op!
Been in 3 tesco's in Glasgow and all had £65 white stickers and scanning at £65. Must be national. Great price. Heat added
Any way to check stock? Can't find any.

Tesco direct website. Under add to basket should have "check local stock" or something like that. Just put your postcode in an it gives you a rough idea of stock locally
