Is this suitable for Kodi?
I've had one of these Fire TV boxes for about six months, just recently the remote control has started playing up, sometimes it will work, then other days nothing at all, it will just not do anything. I've replaced the batteries with new ones, watched numerous Youtube videos looking for a fix but without finding a positive result which will fix this intermittent problem, which seems to be quite common.

It's very tempremental and you never know it it's going to work or not, I've had to use my Logitech wireless keyboard to overcome the problem when the remote refuses to kick into life. Does anyone have a similar experience with the behaviour of the remote control on the FireTV and does anyone have a fix for this persistant fault? My old Firestick remote control was flawless in performance and is still very reliable.

If you bought it from Amazon they will replace the remote, unfortunately not with a brand new one though

As you have internet why don’t you search
works with standard fire stick too
Hot!
you can still sideload the Google Play version of Youtube, however it will not work well at all with the Amazon remote, so will require a 3rd party solution (such as a phone app or a mouse which requires a USB port).
Has this got an ethernet port?
These will be buggy!

I fix ours by putting brand new non-rechargable batteries in it. Used batteries or rechargeable ones don't work it sometimes, its to do with the sensor inside the remote allegedly
Just use youtube through Kodi if you get stuck.
At the risk of sounding dumb ...we have an Amazon Prime account and the Amazon App on our Smart TV, does this offer any thing extra???

This is similar to my old Roku. You get a much better interface and user experience.

Personally I only use iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon and YouTube all of which are on my TV and BR player. Unless you want to do Kodi or the TV user interface is so bad that you hate using it? Then not really needed, unless of course there is something I am missing?

I'm trying to decide between one of these or an Nvidia Shield for using as a Plex client. Anyone use of these for Plex?

My suggestion would be to either get a Nvidia Shield (Which has the single best PLEX interface and integration on the market) or get an Apple TV 4K and use Infuse as the front end to a plex backend. If you are going to use a Fire Tv for you’re own Media then go through Kodi.
ordered thanks, had £9.50 of clubcard vouchers so with the extra £5 off it only cost £39.50

This has plenty of power as a Plex client so save yourself the money unless you are after an android games machine. The Fire TV playback is excellent inc 4K. Shield has compatibility issues with newest HDR standards and also does not have fully working uk on demand channels eg ALL 4

I'm not so much worried about on demand stuff as I have a smart TV which has all that stuff and no interest in Android games so after something purely for Plex. I suppose I might make use of the screen streaming with my PC and Nvidia graphics card but I would probably be under utilizing a Shield most of the time. It does look pretty slick though.

Errr.. it isn’t about the “power” at all. It’s the fact that the Shield has full global voice search of your Plex library, as well as playback of HD audio too.
still using same one. Everything is great.
