There always one idiot who doesn't read the description ..
I don't comment much on deals but felt compelled to put a little bit of my own experience here.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago with the generic Amazon code that was doing the rounds. The main motivation for buying it was the fact I was using a 1st gen FireStick in the bedroom TV and it was getting so slow was starting to drive us a bit mad. Already had a Fire Box 4K in the main lounge TV - plan was to put this new box in the lounge (to get HDR!) and move the Fire Box 4K to the bedroom.

Wish I hadn't really -yes, the 4K HDR stuff looks good, particularly at high frame rates. But that's about the only benefit versus a lot of trade offs:

(1) Kodi has gone from being 'good enough' to being extremely frustrating. If you want Dolby Digital sound through either the Fire TV or Kodi then it will break lipsync - audio offset doesn't fix this. If you turn off DD in main Amazon settings then it fixes the issue (mostly) but then no surround sound on either the Amazon content OR the Kodi content.

(2) No ethernet (I know there's an adaptor but....) which means relying on wifi for streaming from a NAS. Really pushing my network to the limit in this house but you might be ok in yours.

(3) No HDMI cable / extender which means plugging directly into the back of the AV Receiver or TV. This is actually a massive pain if you have an integrated setup!

All of this was discoverable before I purchased it so can't really complain about the product (just my decision!) But would I do it again? Probably not. I have achieved my primary goal, which was to sort the bedroom TV out and the whole thing has actually kicked me into starting a proejct I've been putting off for ages which is to build a proper Windows10 Kodi Box. So far so good on that front.

In summary, it's a Hot Deal for sure but buyer beware if you have specified requirements.

You need to download Firefox.

I tried with both Firefox and Silk Browser. Video just freezes after a few minutes and shows a circle as if buffering. Annoying to a point that I no longer watch YouTube on the fire stick.

Oh i see. Ring amazon digital up, they will help with settings. I got a replacement stick after 1 year warranty after asking a few times( first gen). Think mine kept freezing at random times.

Try Smart YouTube TV app
You can watch youtube via Silk or Firefox browsers. It is worth noting that Amazon removed Googlecast support. So no casting /controlling youtube from mobile phone.
I personally think you are better off with a normal firestick, I ordered this to upgrade from firestick, what a waste of time and money, better of trying to get one of the original fire tv box of eBay. Far superior to this. Still have the 1st generation and it beats this hands down. Paying more for less.

Not really - firesticks are poor for wifi so this having a built in ethernet helps - plus it's 4k

Can you expand on how this is worse than a firestick or the 1st gen version?
Will this play frame packed 3D with SPMC?
God! another remote control??
Just read reviews on Amazon, cable to short to connect to the tv, thing hangs out the side if you connect via usb for power , looks unsightly. My experience wasn’t good vs the 1st gen, I’m sure the processor is smaller too but you would have to double check that plus no Ethernet port unless you buy a adapter.

I have a first gen fire box and got a stick for another room the stick was meant to have a better cpu but its really slow and unresponsive at times. Audio even goes out of sync sometimes
The previous model is better
Try and track one down
Smaller is not always better
What apps put out 4k ?
Want Netflix and YouTube mostly but others would be good.

yep just mirror your screen = settings > display > screen mirroring

Then choose screen mirroring via android settings.

'Built in' Ethernet that you need to buy an adapter for at £14, or good luck streaming 4K on Wi-Fi !
Replaced my fire stick with this last month or so (I believe I paid £50 when eBay did the voucher off anything).

So much of an upgrade. Well worth the cash for the 4k alone.

Same price as Amazon... The real deal here is the Tesco discount code, which is posted in another thread.

Will there be separate deals posted for every electrical item in Tescos that is cheaper using this code?
How can you play YouTube 4K now? Otherwise there is just Netflix I guess
Netflix and Amazon ∆ have the gen 2 myself, only advantage for me is this new one does HDR where the gen 2 doesn't.

There is no built in Ethernet.

You need to buy additional adapter for £10-15

You can stream it as long as you have decent router.

I've tried 55GB 4k film from pc through plex (direct play, no transcoding).
PC connected to router by WiFi ac 5GHz 1300Mbit
Fire tv connected to the same WiFi.

No issues at all.

Modem/router TP-Link Archer vr900 v2.

Biggest file I've tried was 200mbps hevc "jelly fish" but sometimes buffering kicked in.

NVidia shield handled this file without issues, so must be fire tv limitations
Biggest issue for mi was lack of DTS sound (only through spmc, kodi works but with limitations). Even plex can't passthrough dts.

Also I've noticed lipsync delay on some files, but not all of them (same files plays fine on shield)

I'll suggest to buy it directly from amazon so you can return it easily if unhappy (like I did)

My bad. I always thought the boxes had an ethernet port built in.

I bought the adapter from a third party on Amazon for about £12 for my fire TV stick.
I’m still on the line between this and xiaomi mi box 4
After reading comments I’m starting to lean over to xiaomi
has this expired?? doesnt seem to work for me!
