If only they'd actually add chromecast support to Amazon Prime instant video then I might use it!

Why?

£19 is silly money really, but i'm set for media stuff - android tv box (soon to be upgraded), humax PVR and Nas drive.

i still want to buy one though

What for?

Because I already have streaming youtube, netflix, twitch etc. through my chromecast. It seems silly to add another hdmi stick and remote when we could use what we already have.

Mmmm get this or use the app on my PS3.

If I buy one, will it be registered to my Amazon account? If I change my mind after using it, I want to be able to give it to a friend.

I've looked at this a few times and still don't really see the value (if you get freeview). It looks like you would still pay for movies and most of the other stuff is already free. Is the main attraction for those without freeview/internet options?

I will admit to being of the older generation if that explains anything obvious that I'm missing.

You can delete your account details by logging out. Then someone else can login with their own details.

You can register and de-register amazon accounts with it.
so no such problem.

I think it's the ability to side load other streaming apps that makes this appealing, especially at this price.

It makes your TV 'smart'. If you have a Netflix and or Amazon Prime account, you can then watch all the movies and TV series. Or install Kodi/XBMC and take it to another level.

Plus you can get it to access all you media that's on your network very easily.

The attraction is that it makes your television "smart". It gives you the ability to have the free catchup services that you likely wouldn't have with a regular freeview setup.

It also gives you access to Netflix and Amazon Instant Video which you do indeed have to pay for.

can you run 2 firesticks in one house using the same amazon prime account and have them stream 2 different instant video films

Wouldn't you just use a Chromecast for Chromecast?!

Will this be the same price even if you cancel the Prime membership after free trial?

Why do I want it even though I don't need it!?!

Does it work with a 5ghz connection or just 2.4ghz?

No when setting it up after connecting to your TV you log in. If passing it to a friend you would just log out then let them log in.
Also if you bought as a gift for someone else it wouldn't be linked to your Prime account until you logged in.

Would you happen to see & have a link to the amazon page explaining this I've lost it I'm sure I saw something about 2 devices. I'm looking again now, thanks

Does anyone that owns one of these know how the remote works eg infra red? The reason for the question is if I can program my Harmony Touch to use instead.

I've got a chromecast, outside of some game support (like fibbage) and the included remote, are there any other reasons for me to get the fire stick?

it does indeed. Thinking of getting a second one after getting it for this price last time. Don't know how long Kodi will last though with Amazon blocking it with updates.
