And no plugging into the USB won't affect performance or anything.
If you think your cable is to long you can buy shorter ones.
The 4K model (not sure about the others) will often complain about this as most TVs won't provide the amount of current it expects and performance may not be as good as it should be
I think for best performance it is recommended you use the plug.

Ok well you just made my day. My daughter lost her plug to charge her phone so keeps stealing my fire stick plug..( she's got her own firestick but still steals my plug) anyway I just plugged my wire in to the tv to try it and it's working great. Dont no why i never thought to try it...
I hate to imagine the amount of people I've noticed had there's plugged in the wall lol. Saves you a bit on electric as well as it'll only be using power when the tele is on
Sometimes the stick kicks up a fuss when you do that, but I always do...
1 year with Amazon

The 4K model draws a lot more power then previous models as such it isn't recommend to power them from a TV.
Just plug them into the wall and don't worry
Personally I'd rather spend the extra than go with these Jokers.
My firestick 4k is in my old 40 inch 1080p Sony in the lounge. Doesn't have a USB port so is plugged into the mains. My main TV is a 4k 55inch which is in the cellar and all the usual apps
No way Amazon in the UK will honour the warranty on these imported fire sticks.
could result in poor wifi performance
you should never do this very bad advise amazon even state this.
never heard that one before. The only thing that's going to affect your Wi-Fi performance is brick walls or what band your on and how far away.
If it's so bad why do they let so many people sell these cables! I've used this method for years all all my sticks from the 1st gen to the 4k with zero issues. I even use the USB on my TV for my Snes Mini and PS Classic
Wanted to buy the ethernet connection, heard it's not compatible or stable with the 4k stick?
No it's not I made that mistake amazon confirmed this aswell
Not only that, powering via USB means the sticks goes through the reboot procedure every time you turn the tv on, whereas if the stick is plugged into the mains it's always ready to go the moment you need it.
It only takes 10-15 seconds to load though, so hardly a big deal.
I've used mine on an old Sony Bravia USB connection for a while, with no noticeable issues.
Yes it’s true.
Yeah on mine some films play back jerky on a 1a usb port on my projector (dead pool intro was horrible to watch! Around half frame rate,) but spot on with a mains powered 2a cable
Yes, this is the current 4K stick, new ones, likely out after the Amazon new Echo launch on the 25th
Yeah I have seen it effect wifi performance and if ur running kodi will freeze.
I use a 4k Fire TV stick over the built in apps mainly for ease of use using one remote (the fire TV remote) which controls the power, volume and inputs on my amplifier and TV. I like the layout of the fire TV home screen over my built in Samsung smart TV layout.
Also you get the voice control using echo devices (or the remote) which the kids love, especially my 3 year old "AYEXA OPEN UTUBE"
I've never used mine since, it’s all paid content it seems, but I’m probably missing something
Madcat86 is right about this. Waste of money if you ask me.
You can install IPTV player, Neflix, Amazon Prime on most 4K smart TVs. You don't need a fire stick or Android Box.
Missed out on prime day
I travel for work and have used the 4k stick in numerous hotels on various TVs and never had any issue
