Haha, yes I think I just found that out with some free software I heard about and been researching for the last couple of nights. Interesting software available for these devices.

Can someone help me understand...If I buy a new 4K smart TV (like the 40" samsung going cheap recently), can the new 4K tv already show netflix and amazon's 4K content? would I not need a amazon fire tv?
Ok, I found that the native smart apps on the samsung tv can show UHD content, so surely I don;t need a fire tv.

In which case, why would I want a fire tv? The main appeal is 4K content, but you need a 4K tv for that, and surely all 4K tvs will also be smart and have the apps built in already anyway?

Can someone explain the benefits of connecting a fire tv to a smart 4k tv?

Thanks.

It all depends on what you want to stream. One of the advantages of the Amazon Fire box is being able to load Kodi onto it which gives you access to 100's of channels from across the world. If you enjoy streaming your entertainment you could find it quite interesting.

64 quid interesting? I'll have to check out what's on Kodi I guess, but then am I just buying a 64 quid Kodi box?

You can side load kodi onto many smart TVs, but it needs processing power.
The fire stick is dual core and works well
The fire TV box here is 2.0ghz quad core and works even better. Plus it has the 4K ability, so it is future proof

I was just going to say there are loads of people out there who know far more than I do, like the post above. I have only just started experimenting with it. Just put it on my phone to see what its all about. Looking at getting streaming box next but not sure what to buy so will research a bit and see where we go.

I was thinking of the fire stick first to have a play with but see there are some cheap streaming boxes on amazon which come pre-loaded with some 'exciting' software pre-loaded. Or I may just buy the fire stick or this one. I think I will try the cheapest option first and see how it gets one with my internet. It works ok on my LG G4. In the end I may buy the Wetek box which was recommended on here. Some models come with a tuner, either satellite or aerial.

Good advice from JarrodWRX above.
Thanks to both of you then.
Was going to get this recently as I have just splashed out on a 4K tv. Then saw this on a previous post on here something to be wary of

That's similar to a review I read of LG's WRGB screens quoting 4k where their screens have a whte pixel in addition to the regular red, green and blue pixels. On the technical review I read it said that LG were wrong to call it a 4k screen because it simply isn't. Personally I am not bothered because at 50", the size of my present screen, 4k at 6 feet+ away has no real benefit anyway. It maybe future technology and a great gimmick for the manufacturers to try and exploit more cash from us and I nearly jumped in. However, last Sunday in my local currys I picked 3 tv's I was interested in all lined up in a row with only a Panasonic 400B in between. That wasn't in my list. Two of the tv's were UHD and the other a Sony kdl-50w8009c. From viewing from the aisle in front, approx 8" away there was no difference between the HD of the Sony and the UHD of the LG and Samsung. Set on normal tv the Sony was a clear winner. Extra £150.00/£200.00 for a 4k tv at 50" with no visual difference. A no brainer for me.

Yes, saw it back up to full price yesterday, they much have changed their minds on the price. Extra clubcard points are still linked to it though.
