Does anyone have one of these and also a prime member?

Over the last month I've found that a lot of amazon video content no longer streams in 5.1 through my Anazon Fire tv 4K. But does work fine on my Roku through the amazon video app (connected to the same tv, same Av amp etc).

Anyone willing to do a bit of testing? I did create a Q with this a few weeks ago, but sadly got no real response.

The following videos are examples of those that only stream in 2.0 on my Amazon fire 4k but still stream in 5.1 on my roku:

* Frozen
* Driven
* Red Riding Hood
*The Change-Up
* Manglehorn
* Suckerpunch
* Pacific Rim

Some titles still stream with 5.1 on both devices still, e.g.

* Divergent
* Man of steel
* Veronica Mars
* Ironclad 2
* J Edgar
* The Lego Movie
* Brave
I own 3 of these boxes and have noticed that as of quite recently, the remote loses connectivity to the box. Even with brand new batteries, I have to remove them, put them back in and then after a few seconds it kicks into life. You can however also control them from your smart phone with the Amazon remote App. All in all, good boxes, super quick and runs kodi well.

If you use the likes of kodi you have less buffering issues, this is from the power of the box and also the fact you can plug in an Ethernet so speed is better!

I like how you answered your own question there
Can you sideload kodi on this box?

yes
I was sad when they dropped the SPDIF / Optical out on the new version of the Fire TV and whilst my old gen 1 box plays everything fine, including SPMC, it can be a little lagging - even compared to my Rasp Pi 3 when running Kodi etc. However with our Prime membership it serves us well.
Not sure if this could be due to a recent update but my Gen 1 box has started to drop connection now and again with its remote. Once I take the batteries out and popped them back in then it starts to work fine for a while. It never used to do this.

Although there is very little content of HEVC material at the moment if you have stuff encoded in x265 you might appreciate its potential but AFAIK the Gen 2 can support that format in hardware but only when playing it back with an approved app, if I understood that correctly.

For the price it is and coupled with a Prime membership these are pretty good value boxes.

I think that rooting them and installing a TWRP etc is more straight forward than a Gen 1 box, where TWRP is still not available (?).

You can install kodi as an app loads of guides around, when it works it's great but there are issues so patience is a must.

There are some issues however some 5ive tv programmes are unavailable on the fire app such as Gotham, also the app regularly has issues playing adverts preventing you watching other programs. Nowtvs app has no such issues in comparison.

Isn't the M8S boxes widely available on Amazon/ebay better then this for about £40?

e.g. clicky

I know this might be a stupid question, but can you install the Amazon underground apps on this?

Some of those boxes can be hit and miss. Also I heard the wifi connection on them is not as good.
Still, I have a box myself
Not being funny but does this have an IPTV function? or M3U player?
It's a shame the FireStarter app no longer works with the latest update or has anyone figured out how to re enable it yet?
I have the 1st gen box and use Ethernet connection
anyone upgraded to this one noticed any improvement? I don't have a 4k tv

The s812-based box you link to is probably less capable, but a £33 ex-UK s905-based box will be more comparable, example ebay.co.uk/itm…168

I managed to download underground apps on mine but as most ( or the ones I tried ) are designed for mobile phones the viewing aspect was wrong so didnt function properly.

I had noticed that Firestarter wasn't working on mine for a wee while but hadn't got round to investigating it yet.

Thanks for highlighting that its a widespread problem - saved me time I would have spent fruitlessly tinkering.
1. Has anyone tried 10bit 1080p x265 HEVC files on this box, using Kodi or otherwise.
Can your kindly share your experience.
2. Has anyone managed to plug in a webcam and use any kind of video calling app on this?
The advantages of this over the fire stick:

1)More processing power so generally faster in day to day usage and less buffering usually

2) voice commands but that's a bit pants anyways and hardly used - only useful for Amazon prime movies and shows as it doesn't work within other programmes (such as Netflix or kodi)

3) It has an Ethernet port for stable connection to your router.

4) You can plug a USB in the back and stream movies from USB stick: the fire stick can't obviously do this but then again most modern TVs can anyways

This is basically the difference - I have both a fire stick and Fire TV.

i have both - and use M8S MBOX all the time: Fire4k unit is in the cupboard....
I'm more tempted by a roku still partly for the personal listening features...
Are there any good games on this?
Another advantage with the box over the stick is that you can connect a Bluetooth device such as headphones or speaker (unless the stick has had an update I don't know about!!). Useful if you want to watch TV in bed late without disturbing your partner!

That depends what you use it for. s812 has stronger graphics so if you want to turn it into "poor man's gaming console" you're better off with s812 based box.
I use my laptop for kodi, runs much better than my android box. YouTube is your friend if you need help to do it.
If this could work like a 4k Chromecast without having to install sketchy apps on my phone, I'd be all over it.
If you have a 4k TV with Amazon and Netflix apps you can already load 4k amazon material, can't see the point in paying more and having
extra cables etc.

use Firestopper
Forgive me if im being stupid but you need a 4K TV right to use this but dont most 4K TVs come as smart TVs so you can just download the Amazon smart TV app and stream in 4K from that?
Hmmm, was about to pull the trigger on a aftv 4k, but now thinking about the mad catz or mbox m8s, thoughts please?

The New Fire OS 5.0.5.1 blacklisted Firestarter. So, the workaround is that Firestarter has now become Firestopper for the new OS updated.

I'm done with Firestarter and personally no longer have any need for it after it stopped working a lil while ago. I only used it for launching Kodi but now with the new OS, Kodi can be lauched directly from Apps and not the long winded way (settings > Applications > Managed Installed Applications > Kodi)
Q. Is my 2.3Mb broadband speed good enough for this device?

I like how you answered your own question there

as other member explained,there is so much more difference between the two apart from 4k.
this is so much better,faster,more powerful,more capable with more functions than the stick.
