Seems £50+ everywhere else.

Always remember though how utterly disgusting HP cartridges are in price, how quickly they run out, and how difficult to get compats for them
HP are good printers, but for the above reason, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
They and Lexmark are the worst in this regard

Could you please recommend a good inkjet or laser printer with low running costs.

Just make sure it'll take compatibles. HP don't. Or at least you'd have to fiddle about replacing the chip, etc.
Not worth the hassle.
Epson do take compats, but even they are trying to find ways to stop.
Kodak apparently are making a big deal that their new cartridges only cost 2 - 3 times what a compat does - as opposed to HP which are 10 times.
Always remember - the cartridges for THIS model cost more than the printer itself.

That's why they sell the printers cheap !!

For home users this would be an excellent deal. If you're a light user then the cartridge costs will be negated by the cheap purchase price. Printing off photos in A4 size is a crazy thing to do, just use the 6x4in photo paper which is fairly cheap when bought in bulk. I bought a set of genuine 56 and 57 HP cartridges from amazon for £31 recently; they would have cost nearer £50+ not so long ago. My previous set lasted me 2 years.

I have one of these and bought a set of chipped refillable cartridges (made in Germany!) from a certain auction site complete with enough ink for 5 refills of each colour for £35. A set of ink is about £20 so equivalent to £1 a cartridge. Quality almost as good as the originals, I use it for everything and am pleased with the result. Scan quality is good, photo quality good for a non specialist printer, I like the document feed. Never used the fax. Original cartridges are a rip off, but if you buy the refillable ones then this is a bargain.

You can sell empty cartridges on ebay too

I have just brought one thanks OP, i have been after a new scanner and fax with network capability for ages, and the hp with its auto sheet feeder, and the ability to scan to a folder is just what i want !

Don't think i'll print anything as have a colour laser for that, but this is sure a baragin thanks so much
