Doh, Im not prime member anymore...

But anyway, I follow this channel on YouTube (Wranglerstar, dont judge...) and they mentioned that these chisels are one of the best, period. It would last for years and years if treated properly.

I would sign up for prime again and get these but I already have 2 sets of chisels...

It says its Temporarily OOS so would need to have a wait for it, usually it is fine for promise on delivery. Happy shopping.

EDIT:
For Non Amazon Prime Members - toolstop.co.uk/irw…284

I think Amazon is price matching Toolstop... and this is why I stopped using Amazon Prime...

I don't, I'm not actually a wood working fan (but thanks, I've heard about him a few times on Wranglestar), I stumbled onto Wranglestar for some tool review and kept going with it because I like the relaxing music/tone of some of his work, I also quite like his camera work, it seems to have alot of effort into it (I do a bit of photography and trying to get into video). Unfortunately its mixed with a bit of moaning, but hey ho, human is human, and its funny at times.
I mean its much better than "celebrity get me out of here" or "Dancing on Ice" for background TV............

I cant watch Wranglerstar i tried twice and when he said a tool "felt good in the hand" I realised he was talking out of his arse (theser is almost no powertool that doesn't) , I recommend you check out AvE for tool reviews that are meaningful and also very entertaining (but sometimes NSFW - profanity) and hes actually smart so its not like watching a man (wranglerstar) smash together his brain cell(s). offence was meant please take it.

also good price for dead tree carcass butchery implements, if you're interested in that sort of thing I don't judge...
OOS!!
Cheaper, larger set on Screwfix if anyone's interested.

No idea if they're as good as the OP but seem to get decent reviews.

I also follow AvE, though content is useful and he is a clever chap; I find it hard to watch sometimes because his accent/choice of words and the raw engineering-ness of "lets break it and see what happens". Additionally, the semi condescending "I'm the best, everything is crappy made" or "engineer attitude" is off putting. I see this alot at work daily and in the mirror... The people I speak with are the actual people who make/produce these products so they actually have some validity to have the "engineering attitude". I'm not sure what AvE's history is to warrant such attitudes (probably a quality or production engineer, he has experience with plastics and metals as well as electronics).. In any case, I'd like to get away from this in my down time...

Wranglestar is a little BS at times, granted, but I'm ok to accept him as a bit of a "red neck" kinda person, at least its humble? Its equally entertaining when he keeps saying a tool is rubbish yet it performs to perfection..

You've used them both to compare?

I think if you look at reviews of chisels you will understand it is similar to features to what you review in knives.
A Sainsbury "taste the difference" knife will be good enough for the avg joe, however it would not compare to the branded Global etc knives which are 3x++ cost.

Some things which will differ between budget vs premium:
# Hardness of the metal (how easily it keeps its sharpness and how smooth the edge will be)
# Quality of the handle (degrading over time, ergos, slip?, vibrations, etc).
# Thickness of the metal (how much you have to sharpen before you need to replace completely as you have no more material).

As mentioned, there are actual video reviews of Irwin from people who know how to carve wood.. I assume they would know more what they're talking about more than the avg person on screwfix.

I'm not a wood smith and I only have Screwfix steel forge ones (on sale), but they do chip easily after some usage implying that; I'm either rubbish at chiselling, or the metal is soft which then more prone to chipping, therefore needing to sharpen more often..
I brought a set of Marples chisels in the 1960's and they're still going strong.

Yes! I use Marples most days, and have used these cheap ones that another chap has onsite! My marples are used all day and I only have to sharpen monthly. The cheap ones are blunt after one mortise.
So I reiterate...Not in the same league.
Pay £5 more and get a set of 5, OOS currently as well

If you're on Hotukdeals and paying £8 a month for Prime, you're doing something wrong.

I'm not and I don't. I refuse to be blackmailed by this tax avoiding American outfit intent on world domination! Seriously, you cannot buy this item for £10 alone - so why is it allowed? Maybe there should be another category on here for Prime deals only?

If you read the OP, there is one at tool stop for £10, and free delivery over £25.

I am also anti amazon hence the alternative link.

If you want to be nit picky I could say the same for any local deal. I would;
A) need to spend fuel to go there and get it, or
B) take public transport and risk my life with commoners and bird flu germs to get the item..

Half as bad isn't good! It's just another commercial drug - once you're hooked....... It removes the ability to weigh up each and every deal on its merits and adds a degree of obligation to use it rather than shop around.

Back to the original point: YOU CANNOT BUY THIS ITEM FOR £10! Are people's faculties really so dulled by the Amazon drug that they cannot understand this?

Errrrm, actually you can buy the item for £10 by simply signing up to Amazon with a new email.
You get a month free trial of Amazon prime.
I've shopped with Amazon over 10 years and never paid postage once.
A month's free trial is a way of sucking you in - you then have to cancel. It's bit like dealers providing the first fix free!
